What else can I watch that will make me smile, laugh, cry?

Me before you, love the film and books

HeadNorth · 27/11/2021 23:26

What We Did on Our Holidays is on iplayer and a real feel good gem of a film.

Elderflower14 · 27/11/2021 23:29

The Holiday
Dear Frankie

ufucoffee · 27/11/2021 23:32

It's rubbish isn't. I hate it.

eveningbubble · 27/11/2021 23:33

oh yes 'about time' was good in that genre

Solasum · 27/11/2021 23:35

10 things I hate about you

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 27/11/2021 23:36

Crazy Rich Asians
Probably not going to make you cry but it is a good 'feel good/easy watch' film

AnnieSnap · 27/11/2021 23:41

Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral. Not Christmas films, but otherwise the same genre as Love Actually.

RaininSummer · 27/11/2021 23:47

We watched 'what we did in the holidays' this evening. Funny and poignant. Has David Tennant and Billy Connolly in it

LemonViolet · 27/11/2021 23:50

One Day is a good one as well.

Definitely this.

Also Serendipity (Kate Beckinsale)
Wimbledon (Kirsten Dunst)

great call solasum

BobbieT1999 · 27/11/2021 23:59

I love About Time but it should come with a 'will make you cry' warning!

eveningbubble · 28/11/2021 00:13

maybe 'sliding doors' it is 1998 but another similar kind of thing.

DixPourCent · 28/11/2021 00:14

I've just watched both Sister Act movies and love them so much!

eveningbubble · 28/11/2021 00:15

I really wish there was another love actually type movie out for this Christmas, we need a bit of a lift.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 28/11/2021 00:29

About Time is lovely. Also Yesterday -another Richard Curtis film, about the Beatles. Well, not about them really!

ODFOgrinch · 28/11/2021 00:35

We watched a film called Ode to Joy this week, starring Martin Freeman. Really enjoyed it.

ThereWeAreThen79 · 28/11/2021 00:39

I didn't dislike it per se. The thing I found most unrealistic was 'Are they expecting us, the audience to believe that the two females (Jeanne Tripplehorn and GP) are fighting to keep him? Twatty, twerpy and tosspot loser Jerry?! Really?! I could see the appeal with John Hannah (funny if a tad look at me look at me Grin )
I bought it on dvd and my 15 year old dd thought it was horrendous in every way. (Although she would rather die than admit she likes anything her decrepit parents enjoy)
Shout outs for Gwynnie using "Shagging" as a swear, Gwynnies hair sacrifice so we could keep up with which universe we're in and using Jeopardy! as a reference when we only had it in the UK for 5 minutes.

ThereWeAreThen79 · 28/11/2021 00:41

Has anyone ever seen This Years Love? Because I'm betting that if anyone has seen that movie (with the sublime Kathy Burke and heartbreaking Ian Hart) they will be on this thread.

greenleathertrousers · 28/11/2021 00:43

Both the male leads in sliding doors are utterly unappealing.

OGenkiDesuKa · 28/11/2021 00:46

Always be my maybe. Very funny feel good film.

ZealAndArdour · 28/11/2021 00:56

Practical Magic always does it for me and 13 Going On 30 (Mark Ruffalo at the pinnacle of his sex appeal in his Talking Heads t-shirt).

NigelWithTheBrie79 · 28/11/2021 01:08

10 things I hate about you
Best film ever. I love how they hijack Bogeys Cheese and Cigar soiree - as if you can't tell.
I love when they enter the bikers bar and his mate makes one of them lose a pool game unintentionally when he picks up the black as he's about to sink it Grin I just love David Krumholtz in general.
I love how petty and superior Joey is (drawing tits on his lunch tray and a penis on DK's face while he just sits there nonchalantly.
I love Allison Janney who was woefully underused.
I love the PE teacher confiscating the weed and munchies.
I love the English teachers refusal to buy into any of his students senses of self importance.
I hate Bianca's prom dress.
I hate that Chastity turned on her friend in such a degrading and misogynistic way.
I miss Heath Ledger. He was destined for absolute greatness
