Hello,

My sister is 40 in December and I want to do a memory box of her teenage years..

I'm 4 years young and remember some things she liked such as music and smash hits magazine (!) Which I'm sourcing on the Internet.

If you were born early 80s and a teen in the 90s, can you please jog my memory of what you liked and were into please? 😁

I had a tiny shiny black rucksack. And also remember the song ‘spaceman’ and lots of aliens on tops, also some kind of platform boots, can’t remember what they were called! Body shop bath pearls as others have mentioned. Ck2 perfume. Choker necklaces.

Make her a mix tape and get a cheap Walkman from eBay. Handwritten cover and track listing is essential.
Long tie die skirts with tassels and sewn in tiny mirror sequins
Anything with moon and star type decorations

I'm.a little bit older so remember the alcohol..... bacardi breezer, castaway, two dogs/hooch, md 20/20, metz, diamond white, smirnoff ice/mule. Collecting Holsten pils bottle tops with letters on, wearing grolsh bottle tops on your shoes (bros? style)

DeadButDelicious · 27/11/2021 21:17

Fuzzy peach, point horror books, tamagotchis, trolls, impulse body spray, hair mascara, one of those tiny little backpacks, clear lip gloss, if she was in any way of the alternative/goth persuasion a pair of stripy tights and a copy of The Craft, see also: kerrang, Black cherry lipstick (it was by revlon and worn by every 90's goth I've ever known), some sort of patchouli based perfume and a dog collar. From the pet shop.

Oh yeah and 10 L&B. Grin

I do remember her having loads of those nightclub flyers stuck to her wall... as in they covered the whole wall!

Body shop white musk/coconut oil perfume
Heather shimmer lipstick
Mini butterfly clips/twist in diamante hair decorations
Castaway alcopops
To name a few...oh the memories

SpacePotato · 27/11/2021 22:14

A shine album on CD.

One of those big plastic dummy necklaces that Robbie Williams started the trend of.

Ducksareruiningmypatio · 27/11/2021 22:20

Tons of those little black rubber bracelets
Global hypercolour
Body shop fruit shaped soaps
Clear mascara
Fishnets
Naf naff
Beneton everything

PinkyPromises · 27/11/2021 22:26

Haven't read the thread but I would really recommend 'Watching Neighbours twice a day' by Josh Widdecombe. So funny - loads of memories about TV in that era (I'm 43).

lightswitchmoment · 27/11/2021 22:33

Kappa tracksuits
Platform kickers
Hair mascara
Over the knee socks with short skirts
Friends
Impulse and Charlie body spray

DeadButDelicious · 27/11/2021 22:34

I forgot Spliffy! Those massive black denim jeans and jackets with the fella smoking a 'festive cigarette' embroidered on. They got banned from our school. Which of course just made them cooler.

Blindleadingtheblind · 27/11/2021 22:39

Mood rings and shag bands. A cassette of her favourite album. Ck one perfume or Charlie red/ Charlie sunshine.

Body shop white musk scent (don't think you can get dewberry any more). Definitely a magazine like Just 17 or sugar. Dummy necklace (loved mine). An inflatable bag. A filo fax. Jelly shoes. Lip roller thingies that taste of mint or cherry (clear glossy gloop). Glitter make up and coloured hair mascara.

Blindleadingtheblind · 27/11/2021 22:40

A fat Willie's t-shirt.

MyCatHatesWhiskas · 27/11/2021 22:40

Now albums - I had Now 30 (Now That’s What I Call Music) in 1995. Cotton Eye Joe and the associated dance was big in 1994 or 1995, and Saturday Night Dance (Whigfield). Then the Macarena a year or so later.

Impulse body spray is a good shout, and Body Shop White Musk!

As well as Point Horror, we also read Sweet Valley High/Twins and the Babysitters Club (and for something with a bit more depth, Judy Blume - Forever was obviously very popular - but that’s not specifically a 1990s book, it was published much earlier).

Blindleadingtheblind · 27/11/2021 22:41

I still read my point horror books. Never ever parting with them.

MyCatHatesWhiskas · 27/11/2021 22:41

Also Sweater Shop sweaters.

YukoandHiro · 27/11/2021 22:41

CK Be

Heruka · 27/11/2021 22:43

Aww I was 40 this year and loving this! Heather shimmer, dewberry, alcopops! I’ve not got much coming to mind to add - maybe younger things like Care Bears, rainbow bright, mr frosty which I saw back on sale recently…

Kite22 · 27/11/2021 22:43

There's just been a prog on BBC 1 about Aids and about Freddie Mercury and about a big fundraising concert they arranged in 1992 - worth a watch to see the big stars, the fashions, the music, and the attitudes both to homosexuality (at this point George Michael hadn't come out) and also to AIDs.

Blindleadingtheblind · 27/11/2021 22:43

Fruit of the loom t shirt.
