Three hours after completion still in my house

As the title.

Completed at 2pm.

No keys. Agents frantically calling vendors. They are still packing the van. Agent and solicitor tell them in no uncertain terms that they do not own the property anymore and are now breaking the law.

An hour and a half passes and they drop the keys off with the agent.

Phew, we think, they are all gone. So we pick up the keys and drive to the property - they are still there and the house is still full. I mean full - could still see paintings on the wall in the lounge, hallway and kitchen filled with boxes, appliances.

Get a sob story of how they have been at work all day (completion date hardly comes as a fucking surprise, maybe take the day off as we did?)

I tell them that they no longer own the properly, me and my husband do, and that actually, we could legally walk in and lock the doors, “you couldn’t” came the reply - I don’t know what planet some people live on.

Called the agent who was like, What?! Solicitor aghast too. Our solicitor have contacted thieves saying that yep, we’ll just lock them out if we chose to and charge them to remove their properly.

I didn’t go in and lock the doors, I’m not that much of a prick even though it’s now my property and they are trespassing. My 15 month old was knackered in the back of the car.

Back at home now, thankfully only 5 mins down the road and thank god in a rented house so no massive deal tonight although removals booked for 9am.

I’m so pissed off. We’ve had a really awful few months, I’ve got a close relative in hospital, Ive been fighting for a diagnosis for them, I’ve been ill myself.

Why are people such dicks?

I'd never heard of people doing this until I read it on here. When did they think they were meant to be moving out? It's such weird behaviour.

Are you going to do a drive by later to check they've gone?

Twatarse · 24/11/2021 17:25

Yes. Dh taking ds to work at 6pm, they drive right past.

Ohdoleavemealone · 24/11/2021 17:28

Oh dear. I think I would have tried to stay there and make sure they were quick. At this rate they might still be there in the morning. And how are they going to lock up if they have no keys?

DrWhoNowww · 24/11/2021 17:28

People can be aresholes and incredibly stupid as well.

OP in your shoes I’d be doing a drive by later to see what the situation is and wanting to be at the new house as early as practical tomorrow - you don’t want your removal company packing up your house if there’s no where to unload into.

And speak to your solicitor about charging them - especially if your removals have to be rebooked.

Echobelly · 24/11/2021 17:28

OK, that is taking the piss - even if they were at work all day and for some reason couldn't get out of it (and it is a problem for some people), they've had the weekend just gone and other evenings when they could have packed everything except the essentials. Every time I've moved packing starts at least a week in advance.

Buzzer3555 · 24/11/2021 17:29

The same thing happened to us. We had nowhere else to go so were left sitting in the removals van with a 9 month old baby. My husband got in to the property and stacked all the blokes belongings in the garden. It was December and snowing. Its 25 years ago and still makes me feel stressed. If its any consolation we have gone on to have many happy years in the house
Good luck

Twatarse · 24/11/2021 17:29

I mean, what did they think the point was of dropping off the bloody keys when they are still there?!

Oh believe me, I’ve got two small children as well as my teen ds.

If we’d have been sat outside with all our things and the children in a van needing somewhere to sleep tonight, they would have been turfed out and the door locked.

This happened to a friend of mine. The vendors took days to leave and when they did they left all sorts and a garage full of stuff.

Your solicitor needs to charge them.

It is outrageous. Some people have no class.

stalkersaga · 24/11/2021 17:35

Our solicitor have contacted thieves

Steady on now Grin

Hope you're in very soon.

Ha! Quite the typo!

Can you tell I’m a little stressed.

Tell their solicitor you want compensation. They are beyond stupid.

lifeohhifeee · 24/11/2021 17:36

I would do what someone else did go and pile there stuff out front how bloody cheeky!!!

Oftenithinkaboutit · 24/11/2021 17:38

Only 5 mins down the road?

I totally would have scoped put progress way before even completion at 2!

ConfusedNoMore · 24/11/2021 17:38

Mine did this too. Collected keysbfrim agent. Arrived with my little boy (single mum been througha load of trauma to get our own place again). House full of people, dismantling wardrobes and crap everywhere. Awful.
DinkyDaisy · 24/11/2021 17:39

We were about an hour over moving time- completely by accident and apologised profusely. Misjudged packing time and crap my dh had in the garage. Fortunately, bought to be a rental and ok. Still embarrassed that house not as clean as it would have been if we had been more on the ball. [Dust under sofas etc].
You live and learn...

tomwombsgans · 24/11/2021 17:39

This reminds me of another thread where the OP thought it was ok to have sandwiches instead of getting the fuck out of the house they no longer owned 🤣

Twatarse · 24/11/2021 17:40

We drove by at 1pm - there was a van on the drive way.

“They must be setting off!” said dh.

Winterfellismyhome · 24/11/2021 17:40

@tomwombsgans i remember that one! She was outraged that the new owner began knocking the kitchen out Grin

Peaseblossum22 · 24/11/2021 17:42

I would be making them leave . The house insurance will be invalud for starters , if god forbid it were to burn down you might find it’s not insured. Plus, how are they going to lock up if you have the keys ?

Twatarse · 24/11/2021 17:43

Ds just text me.

They drove past and there is a houseful of stuff stacked on next doors driveway.

Oh, I bet our names are mud with the new neighbours.

Funnily enough though, I do like to abide by the law myself and I get a bit pissed off when other people don’t and it affects my life, so I couldn’t give a monkeys.

Purplewithred · 24/11/2021 17:43

On my moving out day when XDH and I were splitting up the removal people had seriously underestimated the amount of vans/labour needed (or just skimped on the job). Buyers moving from a 2 bed flat arrived by 11, our packers way behind (not least because XDH had told them to do his packing first) then called to say they'd got a van stuck under a bridge. I have a complete meltdown and they rented another van but it was absolutely mortifying, especially as XDH and I were both moving out at the same time. Finally got my stuff out at about 4pm. Sent flowers and champagne. Stuff of nightmares.

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 24/11/2021 17:44

The worst part of this type of cheeky fuckery is the filthy mess they leave behind. I swear being dirty pigs goes hand in hand with taking the piss. I dont think mine even flushed the loo.

Darkpheonix · 24/11/2021 17:45

We had this with our first house.

6.30pm (now ex) h was stood outside while they arsed around. I had been working exh was moving what furniture we had. I went from work to the bed shop to tra k down our bed that had gone missing.

I made ech out the woman on the phone and told her I was going to be there in 30 min and I would going in and looking them our if she wasn't gone.

She was gone by the time I got there .

Though when we sold our marital home, I moved all my stuff the week before. Exh left a load of stuff for the new couple and told them it was mine. I felt terrible when they contacted me asking when I was taking stuff out of the study.

I ended up going round and sorting it because he just refused.

Dixiechickonhols · 24/11/2021 17:46

It’s not only highly annoying but potentially serious if they damage your house/burn it down etc.
I’d get locksmith lined up for first thing tomorrow and move in. You have been very understanding.
