Would I be mad to wash 4 year olds uniform after each wear?

Just because of germs and she's been getting sick a lot lately? As in only let her wear it once then wash it?

Yes

ItsAllAboutTheLighting · 24/11/2021 09:07

If it makes you feel better then why not?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/11/2021 09:08

Yes.

Can you really catch stuff from a uniform?

I don't think it's going to make her get sick less.

Echoesandsilence · 24/11/2021 09:09

I was my DS uniform after 1 day - but thats because he comes home covered in mud every day.

astoundedgoat · 24/11/2021 09:10

Oh God, life's too short.

If it's got stuff down the front, then by all means wash it (and at 4, when does it NOT have something down the front?) but if it's moderately clean, leave it. Don't martyr yourself to this kind of thing. You're just inventing "wife work" here.

PonderingTotskeit · 24/11/2021 09:11

In Germany our relatives children who are at nursery have to wear a newly washed jumper/top everyday.

Personally I would wash it every day if you think there is a germ issue.

Greygreenblue · 24/11/2021 09:13

Are 4 year olds in the UK not learning via play? Do they not still spill food? Our 4 year olds come home from school covered in paint, sand, dirt, marker, sometimes food and god knows what else. I would NEVER send them in the same uniform twice.

santabetterwashhishands · 24/11/2021 09:14

I wash all clothes after one wash 🤷‍♀️
Except coats.
It's not like you have to walk down to a river these days just throw it in the machine.

Greygreenblue · 24/11/2021 09:15

Sorry I mean without washing it. Obviously we don’t buy a new uniform every day. Though I guess that would solve the washing issue…

LakeShoreD · 24/11/2021 09:16

I wash my 4YO’s after every wear too. It absolutely needs it!

Maui69 · 24/11/2021 09:17

I thought it was standard to do that.

nannybeach · 24/11/2021 09:17

Bad for the clothes and the planet

If everyone did the same you wouldn’t need to walk to the river before too much longer, it will come to you. Do you tumble dry everything too?
Very few clothes need washing after one wear.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 24/11/2021 09:18

Children aren't catching bugs/germs from their uniforms. Hmm

They are catching bugs/germs from other children, just as they always have done.

Washing every day will just leave you with less time, cost you more in detergent and electricity, reduce the lifespan of the clothing, and harm the planet.

Funkypickle · 24/11/2021 09:18

Mine has 5 sets of uniform and clean uniform every day. PE kit gets washed 2 x a week. I wear clean clothes every day and don't see why my kid shouldn't.

daisypond · 24/11/2021 09:20

I wouldn’t, unless it was dirty. Do you only have one uniform? Not a spare jumper? I don’t wash my clothes after one wear either - except underwear.

thebabessavedme · 24/11/2021 09:21

my dgs can generally wear his school jumper and trousers for 2 days, he nedds a clean shirt everyday, he is a mucky little fella and shirt cuffs are a sight to behold at the end of each day - if you can afford it OP I would recommend that you buy five of everything, then bung a wash on for uniform on thursday evening, then your dc has clean uniform already in her cupboard for friday and you are not using time on a precious weekend doing bloody uniform. I did this for many years and it just freed so much time at weekends (get homework done on friday too, saves stressing over the weekend)

badlydrawnbear · 24/11/2021 09:21

The viruses that are making her ill are airborne so she breathes them in or will caught from touching something someone else has touched, so I don’t think washing her uniform will help with that. It won’t hurt (I also washed uniform everyday in Reception because it got dirty everyday), but it probably won’t stop her getting ill. Unfortunately, this is just what happens when they start school and are exposed to different viruses, especially this year as most children were not exposed to many illnesses last year.

LittleMy77 · 24/11/2021 09:21

Worn once and then in the wash here. Only thing that might differ is jeans.

I don’t think it decreases germs / catching stuff tho, I just like clean clothes

TheChip · 24/11/2021 09:22

Buy more than one uniform, that way you can alternate and wash multiple together instead of daily.

Even jeans?? How do you DRY everything?
Lulu1919 · 24/11/2021 09:22

Or you could spray with the fabric stuff you can buy that gets rid of germs ?

SirHonkers · 24/11/2021 09:22

Bloody hell, I wish I didn't have to wash my kid's uniform everyday but the little cherubs do insist on covering their clothes in crud every single day.

BIWI · 24/11/2021 09:22

Children need exposure to germs though - that's how they build their immunity.
