If you work from home, what setting do you have on your thermostat?

I find that sitting still, I feel chilly if the temperature is under 19.5 - 20⁰C. As the room I work in is north facing, this means having my heating on for several hours a day at the moment. What's your preferred working temperature?

I layer up 24/7 but click the thermostat to 14 for 20 mins before having a shower so the bathroom is warm. Well, warmish! I only shower every other day to keep costs down.

Haven't had the heating on yet. I were normal layers, and then add fluffy socks and a nice woolen jumper when I start feeling chilly. Add a blanket if I have a long board meeting and I can't move around.

I find going for a walk at lunch really helps me feel warm when I get back home afterwards.

18/19. I have to keep it this temperature or we get mould/condensation issues. When everyone is home I might turn it up to 20 for an hour or so. Thankfully the house stays warm quite well once it’s heated.

My house is cold. The hall where thermostat is is really cold. If heating is left off from bed to wake it drops to 14 ish. And takes forever to heat up. I leave it as 18 thro the night, if we're at home during day it's to 22 ish.

lurkingfromhome · 24/11/2021 14:27

I'd never heat the whole house during the day just for the sake of one room. I have a halogen heater in my office room that cost £30 and heats the room up very nicely. I do put the central heating on for about half an hour when I get up just so it's warm when I shower and get dressed etc. But after that I'm in my toasty office and the rest of the house can freeze.

18

I wear thermals under my clothes, thick hiking socks inside my fluffy slippers, and have a fleece blanket over my knees. Sometimes I add a jumper, hoodie or jacket on top if needed (which of those depends on whether I am doing VC calls ir just working on my own documents in peace).

Occasional stop for hot tea (I would be stopping in the office anyway).

I don't see why, when I am already putting on extra heat anyway (we used to keep it at 14 during the day and boost shortly before we are due home), I need to have it even warmer when I can just add layers on myself instead.

When proper winter sets in, we will start lighting the wood stove earlier to help on really cold days.

I'm a cold person. House is heated up to 22 in the am before we get up, then it drops to a set temp of 20 on the setting for the day, however most of the time (thank you 1930s well built house) it rarely falls below 21 again most of the day.

nosyupnorth · 24/11/2021 15:47

mine tends to sit at 16-18 but i take regular oppotunities to move around a bit between tasks/calls which keeps me warm and i have a big pot of tea on the desk with a tealamp warmer to keep it hot so i can drink/hold my mug to warm up

GrandmasCat · 24/11/2021 17:58

I have it at 19.5, any lower than that and my house starts to smell mouldy 😕

I used to use an electric fire, rather than heat the whole house much of the time. That was until a gas engineer told my that heating the house with gas central heating was cheaper per hour than using one electric fire 😮

I set the thermostat at 18 during the night and during my working day.

Between 530 and 830 then 500 till bed it’s 20

Electricity is 3 x more expensive than gas. If u have a modern boiler it makes sense to use it rather than use a heater.

Yeah I found that out the hard way using my heated airer! It's cheaper to put the heating on Grin
