If you work from home, what setting do you have on your thermostat?

I find that sitting still, I feel chilly if the temperature is under 19.5 - 20⁰C. As the room I work in is north facing, this means having my heating on for several hours a day at the moment. What's your preferred working temperature?

20 degrees but the thermostat is in a South facing room which stays warm if the sun is out, as does my office. My husband works in a colder part of the house and complains that he's cold (whilst wearing a t shirt...)

Namechangeforthis88 · 23/11/2021 20:44

About 18 for a couple of hours 06.30 - 08.30. Then down to about 16, I have a wee heater in the room I work from and stick that on for a bit every now and then.

Key to it all is a hot water bottle at the bottom of the 3 season sleeping bag that I sit in.

HelloDaisy · 23/11/2021 22:04

We have a portable gas heater in the office, which is naturally the warmest room in our house anyway.

Try not to have the heating on during the day unless dc are home as we are generally in the office or out. I’ve worked from home for last 20 years and manage ok. If friends come over or it’s particularly cold the I may put the heating on…

Heating on from 6.30 til 9.30am then on again at 5.30 til 11pm. During the day it's merino base layer, thick jumper and for the coldest of days fingerless gloves and heated blanket. The house is hard to heat and runs on LPG which is expensive.

ImFree2doasiwant · 23/11/2021 22:11

I don't have the heating on in the day. It comes on for an hour in the morning, then back on at 3 so the house is getting warm for when the children are at home.

I dress appropriately to keep warm, blanket over my lap, and hot water bottle. Socks and Slippers

GrumpyLivesInMyHouseNow · 23/11/2021 22:11

Heating comes on in the morning for a few hours and then I use a heated blanket the rest of the day

nordica · 23/11/2021 22:15

It's set at 15.5C most of the time and that means heating is not kicking on much. I only turn it up to 18-19C in the evenings. I wear thermal socks and a big cardi when working. Ideally would prefer it warmer of course but as a single income household I'm worried about the rising costs.

strelitzialady · 23/11/2021 22:19

It was just short of 13c today in the lounge (where I work all day). I put a dressing gown on over my clothes plus a hat (until I had a video cal). Eventually succumbed and put the heating on at 4pm!

HandlebarLadyTash · 23/11/2021 22:23

Heating not on, blanket slippers & I have a plug in heater for the room I'm working in, for when my hands get too cold

Dreamstate · 23/11/2021 22:24

No heating on during work hours at.gome I csnt afford to heat my house all day. One layer under thick jumper, thermal socks, heated blanket and hot water bottle. Also wear a scarf. So far its working 💪

Going to be heading back to the office in 3 weeks as we are expected back 2 days but ill go in more and I head.to the gym in the evenings so that'll cut down how much I need to need my house so I can then afford to be warm in my house for the time I'm there.

Thatsnotmine · 23/11/2021 22:25

I work from home and don't have the heating on as I think I don't need to heat the whole house its just me here working in one room. So I use fingerless gloves, a blanket on lap, slippers on and a hot water and lots of tea.

CornishGem1975 · 23/11/2021 22:25

No hearing during the day. If cold I stick another layer on!

RobinPenguins · 23/11/2021 22:26

18 for a couple of hours in the morning, then it’ll only click on after that if it drops below 16.5 which it usually doesn’t. 18 again in the evening.

RaoulDufysCat · 23/11/2021 22:27

18C. But I am a chilly soul and my office is small so I have a little oil heater in there. I shut the door and warm up one room instead of the whole house, most of which isn't being used. It is fairly economical to run and has a thermostat so I can just switch it on and leave it at a sensible temperature.

Dreamstate · 23/11/2021 22:28

Also I have a kettlebell next to me anytime I feel cold I get up and do some quick arm workout which warms me up, plus extrax exercise throughout the day which is a bonus

Allaboutyou222 · 23/11/2021 22:31

I wish I could bear it but I work out of our dining room and it’s a big room. I get cold. Heating is on 20 pretty much all day. No doubt it’s costing me a fortune. I can’t work if I’m cold.

TwinklyBranch · 23/11/2021 22:34

I don't have the heating on during the day. I have an electric heater next to my work table which I put on for a bit if I get cold. I wear a big cardi, thermal socks and have regular cuppas to keep me warm!

carlydurly · 23/11/2021 22:40

At home, it's 19 but I try and avoid putting it on for just me. I got a big heated blanket from Lakeland instead.

I think it's a big hidden cost of wfh in winter. For me, it's probably cheaper just to drive to the office and enjoy the free heating.

CatchingStars · 23/11/2021 22:44

Heating is on as much as I need to feel comfortable - it's a priority if I'm working from home - I'm less productive if I need to keep making a cup of tea, blankets & hats aren't a good look for video calls.

scattercushion17 · 23/11/2021 22:49

I can't get over done of the temperatures on here.

15, I wear layers, use a blanket and hot water bottle if cold..

NotMyCat · 23/11/2021 22:54

Usually around 18c but I have a heated throw if I get cold, layers and wear hard sole slippers
I can't move about when I'm working so get quite chilly!

TheWatersofMarch · 23/11/2021 22:56

I don't - I have a hat, blanket and hot water bottle. I put the heating on when the kids get home from school. I just can't justify the skyrocketing cost.

PoppityPop · 23/11/2021 23:03

18-18.5. On all day from 7am-9pm

megletthesecond · 23/11/2021 23:06

21°. 24/7.
I've been really good and turned the temperature down a notch this year.

Kite22 · 23/11/2021 23:11

Since there have been more of us in the house, the heating comes on in the day if it drops below 16. Above that, there is an expectation that people put a jumper on if they are cold.
