I know prices have risen but double? Fucking double?

Yes, double. Isn't it awful?

Having said that though, yours is high...have you tried martin Lewis energy club to make sure you are with cheapest possible supplier?

Are you staying on the variable rate or is that the fixed rate tariffs? Don't fix on a new deal if your one is ending. Do nothing and you'll go on the variable rate, which is cheaper than any fixed rate currently.

Yes as I had pointed out to me recently, although prices are not quite double (although close) if you were on a cheaper fix, none now exist so you get the recent price rise plus the amount the cost has gone up since you fixed. Cheapest rates are now the variable rate.

IncompleteSenten · 23/11/2021 11:08

That's the quote for fixed tariff. I've looked at money supermarket and there's nothing better out there.

Yeah you won't get a good fixed tariff. Do nothing and you'll go on the variable rate with your supplier. It'll be more but not double.

InTheLabyrinth · 23/11/2021 11:18

Dont fix right now. Go onto a variable. It will be more than current, but should be less than the quote.

Garriet · 23/11/2021 11:30

Ours has also doubled but was only £90 a month to start with. Still painful though, going to have to do a lot of belt tightening.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 23/11/2021 11:47

we have a smart meter and i pay onto it weekly....we have noticed no difference whatsoever!!

whats going on?

Don't get a fixed tariff. Stay where you are and roll onto the standard variable rate as it is covered by the price cap. Fixed rates are not capped so you will pay more
Snoods · 23/11/2021 11:53

Ours is double if we fix .. so staying variable as so far seems cheaper

IncompleteSenten · 23/11/2021 12:27

Thanks for the advice everyone, I shall not set up a new fixed one.

What with this plus increased food and petrol costs, a lot of people are going to really struggle this winter.

You probably ARE on a fixed rate tariff, so yay! But when the tariff period ends, prices would rise.
dementedpixie · 23/11/2021 12:32

My fixed rate runs out in February. Not sure how much I will be paying by then

Hoolahupsaresquare · 23/11/2021 12:36

Mine had tripled but thank god it was very cheap to start with.

Hoolahupsaresquare · 23/11/2021 12:37

I looked into switching and either companies aren’t offering a comparison or if I switched I’d be paying even more than I am now.

BackBackBack · 23/11/2021 12:40

Was paying £90 monthly on a fix and now paying £265!

Hoping that prices will go back down again

Bedsheets4knickers · 27/11/2021 20:36

I don't think variable is entirely a good idea this early on into winter .

It is what is advised just now as the variable rate is subject to the price cap and will be a lower price than a fixed rates. There are no fixed rates that are cheaper than the price cap
PinkyPromises · 27/11/2021 20:46

Ours went from £106 pcm to £253. We can manage but it was a huge shock.

I know there will be others who just cannot absorb this price hike Sad

Bedsheets4knickers · 27/11/2021 21:11

Variable it is . I fear for so many people over the next coming months .

36degrees · 27/11/2021 22:16

We got a letter this morning to say our fixed is due to go from £170 to £420 per month from February, for a terraced house! I'm desperately trying to get back to an office-based role so we don't have to have the heating on during the week.

dementedpixie · 27/11/2021 22:23

Do you mean your fixed rate will end?
Are they offering a new fixed rate (don't take it) or is that the new monthly payment?

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 28/11/2021 16:48

We have the some problem. Ours went from £80 a month to £240. We tried MoneySupermarket or uswitch or similar and nothing else put there cheaper. We rang them and they agreed to reduce it to £199 a month but it's still one hell of a jump.

dementedpixie · 28/11/2021 16:50

Who are you with and are you in debit or credit with them?

How does your usage compare with how much you are paying?
