Just wondering if these are any good? If you have one do you use it more than floss or tepe brushes?

I have "deep pockets" and poor gums in general and hate the hygienist!

@olivo

Does anyone have sensitive teeth? Are they ok to use, without hurting?
I have sensitive teeth and I find it's fine as long as I use lukewarm water.

I have sensitive teeth and love my flosser. Gums are much improved

2bazookas · 29/11/2021 19:05

Our dentist recommended. DH loves it and uses it daily; I hate the damn thing because I'm so bad at directing it inside my mouth (part of my lifelong left/right confusion) the squirt gets all over the tiles. When I told dentist he suggested I use it when I'm in the shower , so I do.

They do have a positive effect on gum health (dentist says he can see the difference).

Interesting. I saw the hygienist on Friday and asked her about water flossers. She recommended the Phillips Sonicare one.

olivo · 29/11/2021 20:14

Thank you, I've just ordered one in the Boots sale. Watch this space! Love the tip of using it in the shower and will definitely try Luke warm water as my teeth are so sensitive!

abricotine · 29/11/2021 20:16

they are fine but do not replace tepe or floss.

BruceAndNosh · 29/11/2021 20:17

I run the hot tap while I'm brushing and fill the waterpik reservoir with tepid water. No sensitivity problems

Goldenphoenix · 29/11/2021 20:23

I love my Waterpik, it's brilliant. Have the one with a tank that plugs into the mains. My husband has really crowded teeth and has never been able to floss, the Waterpik has made a massive difference that his gum health.

I have sensitive teeth and using warm water is the key, no pain at all.

Will it remove the hard tartar build up on the inside of your bottom teeth?

cherrypiepie · 29/11/2021 20:29

It arrived today! So first impression is that it's ok but not amazing and that it feels better if Use is a tepe. But I'm going to try and use it twice a day for a few weeks.

Thought I would feel like I'd been and had a scale and polishGrin

It's hard to use in front teeth and I can't get my head around how to use it effectively yet.

I use quite warm water and no sensitivity then I tried mouth wash and on my gosh was horrible! Far too cold!

Overall I'm glad I bought it for 29.99 it's worth it ! Also getting an implant next year so I think jt will good for that

Not a fan of them.
Bought one and all it done was cost me money for a new filling Confused

endlesswinter · 30/11/2021 03:22

My teeth are too sensitive for them, DH likes it.

I use rubber picks and a set of metal scrapers the same as the hygienist uses. The metal tools are the only things that really get my teeth clean.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 06/12/2021 11:57

Any updates? I'm considering getting one, but a bit apprehensive. (Few dental issues & which one??)

AnnieSnap · 06/12/2021 13:12

I just asked my dentist. She said that they are a waste of money. People might like the way they make their mouth feel, but you are essential just swilling the gaps between your teeth with water and that doesn’t clean plaque off the surface. She advised using the little brushes instead.

It's very mixed. My old NHS dentist thought they were great and the hygienist agreed. My private dentist and hygienist says they're ok but still use the dental tape and Tepe brushes alongside. I do like how the Waterpik dislodges bits you can see though.

I'd be interested to know the answer to this too.

I have sensitive teeth and I just use warm water rather than the icy stuff from the tap at this time of year and it's fine.
cooldarkroom · 06/12/2021 13:39

I have had several, i would not recommend waterpic, or the standard chemist brands.
I now buy mine on Amazon, get a rechargeable tubeless model, much cheaper & you can travel with it.

fakereview · 06/12/2021 13:53

I've had one for years, and not used it for years! But this thread prompted me to charge it and use it again so thank you! I usually use teepee brushes so I am not sure it is dislodging anything extra, but it's probably good for general gum hygiene. I use lukewarm water - cold can be a bit ouch!

I doubt it, I think you need the sonic washer thing the dentists have - but cos of covid they are not using those and just using a pickaxe* instead!

*Not a pickaxe, but they basically pick off the tartar.

Watching with interest...

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 06/12/2021 16:16

I bought a water flosser that was recommended on here. Regret spending the money on it - flossing and using the inter dental brushes seems to work better for me.

cherrypiepie · 08/01/2022 20:20

Just came on to update- my Waterpik is amazing! My teeth look better which I wasn't expecting. They also feel cleaner too which was my hope . I've been using if for a month now - Great Black Friday purchase .

I feel that as the Waterpik does the heavy work I can quickly follow up with a tepe brush.

Great purchase - I paid £29.98 for the basic travel model.
