Just wondering if these are any good? If you have one do you use it more than floss or tepe brushes?

I have "deep pockets" and poor gums in general and hate the hygienist!

I use one most days, although think mine is a Phillips one. I have teeth that are very close together and hate normal flossing. I'm always surprised how much the jet dislodges!

Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2021 22:33

I use one, the stuff it blasts from between your teeth is unbelievable and it's very satisfying seeing all the bits in the sink. My old NHS dentist was very enthusiastic about them. Mouth feels very fresh afterwards.

During Covid I had a problem and ended up going private and the hygienist there was still very much in favour of the Tepe brushes and flossing, and not particularly fussed with the Waterpik.

I also hate going to the hygienist, everything seems ok but they always seem to hurt me.

Great thanks. That is exactly what I was hoping to hear.

Surprising and satisfying is good for me.

There's a knack to it. First time I jet washed the bathroom! You have to keep your mouth mostly closed and let the water out of one side. Grin
Firstinlastout · 22/11/2021 22:46

Just be careful if you have any loose caps or fillings etc.I used mine on a gold cap and it forced it out ,didn't feel it come off but luckily caught it in the sink before it went down the plughole.

charabanctrip · 22/11/2021 22:48

I use one and it's great. I can't use floss as it hurts and gets stuck. I can't recommend the water flosser enough.

Wiltshire90 · 22/11/2021 22:48

Not sure of the brand but I have a water flosser and it makes my teeth so clean and shiny Grin it does take some getting used to initially because the strength of the water can be a bit painful and cause gums to bleed, but it's so worth it.

I have had 2, both went back for refund after 3 months as they stopped charging. I complained to the company but no real comment, other than asking if I live in a hard water area.
I got a cheap version from Lidl which has lasted 2 years so far
I still Teepee as well I make a lot of plaque and need to do both

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 22/11/2021 22:50

I've used one for years - one with a small tank rather than the handheld is better - and they have improved my teeth 100%. I have several dental implants and they are going strong 10 years later thanks to the flosser. I also use tepe brushes and an electric toothbrush.

Lau281990 · 22/11/2021 22:51

I have one recently purchased and it really makes such a difference.

PriamFarrl · 22/11/2021 22:52

Yes. I have one from Spotlight Oral Care. It’s very good.

I have a Waterpik one and don't know how I've lived without it. My teeth feel so much cleaner and as others have said it's very satisfying to see what comes out and ends up in the sink even if it's a little bit gross 😂

We had the same problem - it stopped charging after a while. A shame because we really got on with it.
Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2021 23:08

I have this one, and have had no problems with it.

My dental hygienist said it was like swilling the sink without scrubbing it first.

Did they mean if you just use it without brushing your teeth after?
Tillymintsmama · 22/11/2021 23:24

I think she meant you still needed to manually floss prior.

cherrypiepie · 23/11/2021 17:46

@Sparklingbrook that is the one that I'm getting

I had ‘pockets’ and my new and much loved iOS 9 toothbrush has got rid of them a treat. I got a water pik a while ago but felt like I was drowning. I use an air flosser sometimes, but now I’ve seen the comments I’m thinking of giving the water pik another chance tbh

ShirleyBadass · 29/11/2021 17:35

I love mine. It's also really good for getting the mould out of the corners of windows.

BruceAndNosh · 29/11/2021 17:39

I love my waterpik so much that it comes on holiday with us!
Mine is corded, with variable speed /pressure. Start off gentle and increase over a few days.
Your gums will thank you

AuroraSophia · 29/11/2021 18:05

Do it!!! You won’t look back it’s brilliant. I don’t use to every single time I brush but have a good session a few times a week xx

AnnieSnap · 29/11/2021 18:08

I’ve thought about getting one in the past, then decided against it. Posters experiences here is so positive though, I’ll look again.

olivo · 29/11/2021 18:26

Does anyone have sensitive teeth? Are they ok to use, without hurting?

Edieunion · 29/11/2021 18:56

I have sensitive teeth and bought one as I didn't think it would be an issue...oh my god, how wrong I was ShockI went back to normal flossing as I couldn't stand the pain of it.
