Music lovers what do you play music on at home?

Decided it's about time to ditch the CD player Blush and get up to date. What do you recommend for buying music digitally, and for playing it at home?

Sadik there's loads of choice and it depends exactly how you'll use it, but I've used and got on fairly well with Pulsar.

Champagneforeveryone · 20/11/2021 16:11

@HighHighHopes

Spotify and Sonos. You can also get cheaper speakers from Ikea that connect to the Sonos app/other Sonos' so I have three Sonos speakers and 3 Ikea ones.

Then I can stream the music through each room in the house at the same time.

We have an IKEA Sonos speaker and it's very good for the money.

We use either YouTube on the telly when we're drunk or Spotify on our phones. DS(17) also has a record player turntable for playing his records vinyl on.

Noducksgiven · 20/11/2021 16:14

Spotify and sonos here too. Although my favourite mixes are on on soundcloud so use that quite a bit too.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 20/11/2021 16:15

😂 I'm hearing the conversation in my head right now, complete with tone of voice

@Helpstopthepain

Oh I might not be right for this subject because I use a record player but it’s not very up to date Grin
I love that you said 'record player' & still felt the need to say 'it's not very up to date' 🤣🤣

@Poetrypatty. Good thread. I need to upgrade too, but a bit overwhelmed at the options to be honest, so I just play the radio through my TV on the rare occasion I want music.

Sadik · 20/11/2021 16:18

Thanks @ClumpingBambooIsALie - I think the problem is there's so many, it's a bit overwhelming! I'll have a look at Pulsar.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 20/11/2021 16:21

I know what you mean, it's the same looking for anything like that — ebook apps, photo collage apps… you feel like saying "just somebody tell me which one is the good one" Grin

IfNot · 20/11/2021 16:37

I am lost and don’t know what Sonar is.. I went musicless for ages because I gave away my cds, my record player broke and every time I tried to find out the modern ways of listening to music I just end up more confused so I understand OP! I have Spotify now but find it annoying having to do it through my phone. I like making playlists though and spamming my friends with them. I have a little roundy Sony speaker and a bigger one too, both Bluetooth.
Why can’t we have iPods anymore are they kaput now? It’s nice to have a separate music player thingy.

Helpstopthepain · 20/11/2021 16:53

@NovemberNovemberDarkNights Grin I thought that I was really trendy but turns out that I’m a dinosaur

Roselilly36 · 20/11/2021 16:57

We have Bose speakers, DH has Deezer, DS’ have Spotify, I have a DAB radio, old school me!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/11/2021 17:07

Alexa but through a stereo

mewkins · 20/11/2021 17:15

I have an alexa for listening to the radio when I'm working. And I also have a record player Grin with amp and bookshelf speakers with a chromecast audio attached. This is a convoluted way of doing it but the chromecast lets me stream music from Spotify through the amp and big speakers.

Ghostlyglow · 20/11/2021 17:30

Our music is all stored on PC (cds copied onto it and newer stuff downloaded) . We use Volumio to play it through a DAC. I don't know the technical stuff because DP sorted it all a few years ago but there's lots of stuff on you tube about how to do it.

Horriblehalloween · 20/11/2021 17:32

Alexas in multiple rooms but we will probably upgrade to Sonos in the future.

🦕 are lovely. I've barely got a foot in the next era!! 🤣🤣

Poetrypatty · 20/11/2021 18:50

Wow so many replies thanks everyone. You lot are on the ball! I feel like I somehow missed the memo Grin It all seems quite complicated.

Not sure I want Alexa so I'll look at Sonos and some of the others mentioned on here and get Spotify sorted out.

I've just bought a new CD player Blush

Bontanics · 20/11/2021 18:55

Ueboom speaker in most rooms and play files or YouTube via Bluetooth. The uebooms can all connect so you have have the same music playing in the kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms and living room.

There's also an old dab radio with either r2 or 6music playing in the kitchen.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 20/11/2021 18:57

My phone.

Oldraver · 21/11/2021 09:44

We still wanted to keep the cd player so upgraded a few years ago but got a Bluetooth amplifier

We've gone backwards and recently replaced our record deck

MariDD · 21/11/2021 10:22

We have Samsung soundbar with built-in woofer in our living room.

InFiveMins · 21/11/2021 10:29

Spotify using either a Bose or Sonos speaker.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 21/11/2021 10:40

Sonos here or ikea versions. A sonos link thingy with old but good speakers in the living room then just a single sonos speaker in the kitchen and kids have speakers in their bedrooms.

Everyone can play different stuff at the same time. It links to spotify, if you have amazon music you can link it to your amazon account, if you've bought stuff as digital downloads from amazon then they will play and you can also link at external hard drive shop you can upload your cds to that or can continue to buy downloads of albums from artists and play from the hard drive as streaming services shaft artists.

You can mix and match playlist from different sources and the search function on the sonos app will show all linked sources, it is great.

Don’t all Sonos devices come with Alexa built in now? One of the reasons we ditched Sonos was this. Also they pulled software update and app support for the older, non-Alexa devices, meaning the old (and still perfectly useable) units became effectively useless.

I always went to Richer Sounds before it all went digital and I lost my way!

They stock the best range and are v knowledgeable. You can listen in store.
