It's been a while... the return of Mornington Crescent

I haven't played the game for several months, so I'm a little rusty. I'll start cautiously with an inverted half-shunt to

Bayswater

Ooh! I do love a bit of Pemberley-Harcourt at this time of year.

Covent Garden

Tufnell Park.

Just because.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 02/12/2021 20:24

So then it must be

Bow Church

Perhaps a little recherche, but
Caledonian Road

DownToTheSeaAgain · 03/12/2021 10:00

This game was so much better before the advent of the television .....I'm old school:

Aldwych

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 03/12/2021 13:45

Very obviously old school, DownToTheSeaAgain. The last time I saw someone move from Caledonian Road to Aldwych without an intervening Mackenzie Fulcrum was in BadenBaden in ‘84, coincidentally on the same evening that the Colonel downed a bottle of creme de menthe and dared play Hammersmith on the upward. But let’s not digress

Clapham South

ElfYourself21 · 03/12/2021 17:06

That's a double outing for Aldwych. Hi ho hi ho it's off to Nidd we go...

comfortablyfrumpy · 04/12/2021 21:32

I thought crème de menthe was banned from internationals after the rather unfortunate incident with the Brigadier the Countess at the Saltzberg Seniors in 1954. It had a lot to answer for. The Central Line was off limits for some time after, as I recall.

Anyway, it is after sundown but before the Winter Solstice, so I shall try my luck with London Fields.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 04/12/2021 21:47

London Fields? An outstandingly bold interpretation of Pemberley-Harcourt.

I think Mordern may be the logical next move.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 05/12/2021 13:30

There’s a Pemberley-Harcourt for every situation, I find, and so to

Neasden

FairlyOddmother · 06/12/2021 15:25

I think we're dangerously close to creating a Webster Paradox. Not what you want on a Monday!

Therefore: Balham

Laiste · 06/12/2021 17:56

I'm sorry to do this so early in the game but ...

Ealing Broadway!

I've been waiting for years for this opportunity.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 06/12/2021 18:27

Wow, Laiste! You took a risk there. Don’t you remember what happened when the Lieutenant Colonel tried that move in the Epsom playoffs in ‘77? It took two days to quell the rioting and they nearly had to cancel the Derby.

Harrow on the Hill

OP posts:
Laiste · 06/12/2021 20:51

Oooh you minx with H on the H!

I'm completely trodwindered with that move.

ElfYourself21 · 06/12/2021 22:45

Trodwindered indeed.

In that case, now is the perfect time to move via the Smyth Diagonal to Faringdon.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 06/12/2021 23:42

You’ll understand why

I'm not sure of the rules, either. My step-mother told me it was a real game when I was having doubts, and from this excellent thread I see that she was right.

It's best not to try. The rule books often contradict themselves anyway - hence there are so many of them. Best approach is to think like a Jedi. Close your eyes and just feel your way around. Go with gut instincts to begin with - they will rarely let you down.

Oooh I see what you did there. Risky but very sophisticated.

I'll take a chance on Hendon Central, what with it being Tuesday.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 07/12/2021 09:29

Yes, thinking like a Jedi is often the best approach for newbies. Once you’ve got a little experience under your belt, some of the residential training courses can be useful, but they can also be expensive in both money and liver damage, once they break out the whisky and curaçao cocktails.

Dalston Junction

I think the earlier Manchester Piccadilly lunge (which I expected to land us all in Nidd, but presumably the validity of the Northern Precedent, as it's December, saved us) means that I can reasonably play Birkenhead Central.
