Hi @batmanladybird sorry you’re feeling like this. The good thing is that you obviously have high expectations if the kind of worker/wife/mother you want to be. That’s a good start.

Do you ever read self-help books?

BocolateChiscuits · 18/11/2021 20:21

I'm rubbish at giving advice, and not at all qualified to give it. But you sound like you're being very hard on yourself.

Is there anything nice you could do for yourself that might give you a little respite and replenish some energy supplies. 15min walk in your lunch break, calling an old friend, your best tea in your best tea pot and 15mins in peace to drink it. That sort of thing.

And try to be kind to yourself. Who couldn't stand to be a better wife/mother/coworker. But who can be perfect like that. We're just human. So long as you're good enough, with the important stuff covered like the kids feel loved, you're working as a team with husband, you're mostly meeting any reasonable expectations at work - failing on the smaller stuff is fine, and basically necessary given all the demands on our time.

belimoo · 18/11/2021 20:29

Have you had any blood tests to check whether anything could be causing your tiredness such as low iron or a thyroid issue?

belimoo · 18/11/2021 20:29

Sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish Thanks

Worth doing an ADHD questionnaire just to rule it out. I have complained of fatigue for years and finally found the answer.

specialsauce · 18/11/2021 20:36

Snap OP! I could have written that 6 weeks ago. I felt like that for months but very gradually coming out of it now.

Titsywoo · 18/11/2021 20:40

How much are you sleeping?

Have been checked for perimenopause and the tests weren't overly conclusive Maybe I will go back to gp

awww... wanna swap problems?

I have rat(s) in my loft, an untreated 4 week-old ear infection, a pile of un-answered emails, a hole in my tooth.... There's always something, right?

i'm going to flea treat the kittens, put some kind of electronic killer in the loft, put some batteries on to charge - now , and try to call myself productive for the evening.

JetBlackSteed · 18/11/2021 21:18

I'd speak to your GP and ask for a full blood test. Maybe you are not depressed and need alternative meds. How long have you been taking the ad's?
Could be low iron, thyroid, or B12 issues, or others. All of these are common in peri.
All easily sorted, but you need to make the first move.
Hope you feel better soon.

@batmanladybird
sorry i got distracted haha. I am still waiting for diagnosis and hopefully medication. The main difference so far is the strategies I use and understanding my brain. My fatigue is often triggered by intense periods of concentration. I am also tired at certain times of day. I am learning to boost dopamine. I have started drinking coffee in the afternoon. I had stopped to solve my insomnia but caffeine doesn't affect adhd brains in the same way.Other ways to boost dopamine include connection with others and exercise. Also outsource and automate all executive functioning and boring tasks eg. finances. There are also ways to organise your house to make it more adhd friendly. It's a big learning curve. There are lots of books and podcasts and also support groups.

tellmetologoffIamaMNaddict · 19/11/2021 18:46

Ps some supplements are important like omega thingy (the fish oil capsules) and magnesiusm. Also, have you removed any stimulants you may have been using to self medicate like nicotine and caffeine? I discovered i had adhd when i tried to stop vaping.

Invasionofthegutsnatchers · 19/11/2021 18:47

You might need a higher dose. I take 100mg a day and I'm tiny- 5ft1

That's interesting. I am 5'8 and 3 stone overweight (final stone added courtesy of deep depression during winter lockdown )

I have been decaf only for quite a while: about 18 m. Used to br a massive caffeine drinker; coffee and Diet Coke Quit the Diet Coke about 3 years ago. Drink fizzy water now instead. Prob need to quit that as I know it's bad for my teeth

tellmetologoffIamaMNaddict · 21/11/2021 10:20

This may be part of your answer. If you quit these stimulants it may be affecting your focus. Caffeine is the poor woman's ritalin.
