How do you dry wet towels?

How do you dry large bath sheets after you've used them? We have a slim heated towel rail, which is too small for them, so we hang them over the landing bannister instead. If we shower daily, it means we always have towels hanging about on the landing. When we renovate our bathroom, I'd love to solve the problem. Will a large heated towel rail do the job?

We have a heated towel rail that is connected to the central heating and can also be turned on via electrics so towels are dried even if the heating isn't on in warmer times of the year.

We have two towel rails in the bathroom, simple non-heated ones which DH and I use. We bought a coat stand from IKEA for the DC to hang their towels on, it stands in the corner of the bathroom.

Heated big towel rail in bathroom. But should have asked for it to be connected s9 can switch on independently of central heating too. Great in winter. In summer just hang over bannisters. Also. Smaller towels.

We hang them over the shower rail or on the line in good weather.

GoodnightGrandma · 18/11/2021 07:18

We hang ours in the airing cupboard on a hook.

MrsPear · 18/11/2021 07:19

In bedrooms on radiators

DGFB · 18/11/2021 07:21

Big heated towel rail connected to the central heating. Dries about four towels

toomuchfaster · 18/11/2021 07:25

Smaller towels that hang over the door or bathroom radiator, they dry in a couple of hours so get tidied to the towel rail on the back of the bathroom door later on.

TheWestIsTheBest · 18/11/2021 07:28

Tumble drier.

liveforsummer · 18/11/2021 07:32

We're slowly switching to micro fibre towels. Dry in no time even straight from the machine

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 18/11/2021 07:32

I put them on the heated towel Rail in the bathroom. My son however thinks they dry as a small heap on the bathroom floor.

JaninesEyePatch · 18/11/2021 07:34

From the washing machine or from after showering?
Washed towels either on the line or in the tumble dryer.
Shower towels just hang on a hook and they dry fine.

Talipesmum · 18/11/2021 07:38

I always dry off all over with a smaller towel, then wrap that one round my wet hair while I then wrap the large towel round me to finish drying off. I just do it cos it feels more convenient, but it also means I only have a wet small towel which dries easily on the towel rail, and the larger one is just a little damp so also dries quickly enough. We have a towel rail with lots of thick bars so there’s plenty of heat coming out.

Baconking · 18/11/2021 07:40

We have hooks above the towel rail and hang them on there

beigebrownblue · 18/11/2021 07:41

Depending on how much space you've got and what time of year it is.
(Relevant as for us putting tumble drier on a no no in summer usually)

Preference

  1. Line drying outdoors but difficult for us two floors down.
  2. rails on bathroom walls above radiators for towels to dry and hopefuly be used more than once. (no chance with DD aged sixteen)
  3. V shaped rail to go over bath when it isn't in use which is quite useful to dry stuff.
  4. Tumble drier
  5. If it is only one towel possibly lakeland airer but don't usually use that for towels - but small stuff
  6. All of the above calculated to keep costs and co2 emissions down but when I couldn't afford it had dried towels over doors, etc.

Don't like to do that anymore as it is a small place relatively and it gets me down to have wet towels everywhere so keep them out of sight with this system!

Muststopeating · 18/11/2021 07:43

It wss suggested on here that you have your bathroom towel rail connected so that it comes on with your heating AND your hot water. That way it still heats in summer.

When I did the BTU calculations for my bathroom I rounded up and then bought a single panel that was shorter (1600mm) but wider (590mm). I also bought a vertical radiator instead of a towel rail but that I can attach towel rails to. I measured my towels to check they would fit folded in half. I plan to hang DH and Is towels on the radiator and DCs (under 5) on a separate non heated towel rail.

Haven't tested it out as bathroom not finished. Which reminds me I must double check that plumber hooked up the radiator correctly before we plasterboard.

Oldraver · 18/11/2021 07:50

Yes we have tall heated rails. And use the airing cupboard in the summer if it's nice outside

DementedPanda · 18/11/2021 07:54

We have a tall towel radiator in the bathroom so hand towels go on there. Bath towels are put on the individuals bedroom radiator.

If I'm drying a a wash load I either line dry or tumble.

middleager · 18/11/2021 07:59

Ours dry over the bannister, but I'm fed up of it.

We have an electrician coming tound to look at installing a large, powerful electric only towel radiator in our bathroom.

I did look at freestanding Lakeland ones, but the freestanding ones are not big/powerful enough.

sofakingcool · 18/11/2021 08:03

We had lovely big towel radiators installed when we had our bathrooms done last year. Doesn't stop my teenage sons just leaving them on their bedroom floors though AngryHmm

FrangipaniBlue · 18/11/2021 08:03

Towel rail radiator connected to the heating although in summer it's not on but the towels still dry fine.

Usually have a couple hung over the side of the bath too.

I'm surprised the threads gone this long though before someone's come on saying "ewwwww nooooo wash them after EVERY USE!!!!"

bubblebath62636 · 18/11/2021 08:05

We put them on the radiator in the bedroom. Or i put them in the wash so I don't have to look at them 😂

itsutterlyshit · 18/11/2021 08:07

I get dried with a hand towel then dressing gown straight on. It's been revolutionary Grin
Hang the towel on a hook on the back of the door and it dries so quickly.

DH still uses big bath sheets and he chucks it over the door which is so unsightly but does the job

WeatherwaxOn · 18/11/2021 08:07

In good/weather they go on the line outside. Indoors, on a clothes horse or over the bannisters.
Out towel rail is connected to the central heating system and whilst it can dry things out, it takes far longer as everything has to be folded to fit on.

Sadiequeenofscots · 18/11/2021 08:07

Each person throws them over their door 😂 I’m laughing because DH started this trend but it has continued. DD’s don’t bath every day but DH and I do.
