How do you dry wet towels?

How do you dry large bath sheets after you've used them? We have a slim heated towel rail, which is too small for them, so we hang them over the landing bannister instead. If we shower daily, it means we always have towels hanging about on the landing. When we renovate our bathroom, I'd love to solve the problem. Will a large heated towel rail do the job?

My in laws have hooks on the back of their bathroom door. Each person has a hook.

We’ve got a heated towel rail that’s behind the door when the door is open so two towels are hung on the double hook on the back of the door as well as 2-3 on the towel rail and they all seem to dry.

We’ve got hooks in the bathroom.

Bannister, heated towel radiator, over the door

notacooldad · 18/11/2021 08:28

In winter if it's a windy day they can go on the line.
I also theough them over the shower cubicle to air. My bathroom is warm so they dry there.
I have an electric maiden if needed.
I also have an heated towel rack
As a last resort I'd use the tumble.

Not this exact one but this is similar to what we use.

Wipe most of the water off after a shower with a flannel, then the airing cupboard. I have friends who change towells daily. Surely you are clean after a shower.

Heated towel rail in the early morning (on timer as E7 electricity), ceiling mounted pulley airer in kitchen or laid folded on top of storage heaters (not across vents) in the winter.

ChimChimeny · 18/11/2021 08:58

Outside as long as it isn't dark/wet, on a radiator if they're on, if not on a clothes airer with the dehumidifier on

Shrewoodle · 18/11/2021 09:26

We only have a tiny heated towel rail/ radiator but two towels dry fine on that during the day (hung over but bunched up to fit, they're not flat over the rail)

A580Hojas · 18/11/2021 09:33

We have a heated towel rail in the bathroom but only use it for hanging the communal hand towel.

All our individual bath towels are hung over radiator airers in our bedrooms.

Thanks for your suggestions and ideas everyone. It sounds like we need to hit the issue from a few angles - a big heated towel rail on a timer, big hooks on the back of the door and some continued bannister use. I love the look of yours @Muststopeating. Very smart!

DH's and DC2 on the heated towel rail in the bathroom - take two large towels comfortably. DC1's on a hook on the back of the bathroom door, which dries surprisingly well. Mine folded into quarters and tucked on the end of the radiator in my bedroom, which is hidden by the end of a chest and so doesn't look too scruffy.

vajingleberry · 18/11/2021 11:00

Have I stumbled into a parallel universe?

This is MN isn't it? No towel should ever be used twice - they must be boiled and disinfected to within an inch of their lives even if someone has so much as glanced at it in the bathroom.

Straight into the autoclave for 48 hours if anyone has flushed the toilet.

Maybe all the germ freaks are having a day off Grin

OhGiveUp · 18/11/2021 11:02

On an overdoor hook in the bathroom.
The radiator is on the bathroom wall directly behind the door, which dries it nicely as the door is always open.

FrangipaniBlue · 18/11/2021 13:04

I think they must be @vajingleberry because we're 4 hours in and nobody's had a melt down yet Grin

we don't use bath towels day to day for exact this reason.
they are reserved for the beach tbh...

we have hooks on the bathroom door, each person has their own hook.

If you reserve your bath towels for the beach, what are you hanging on the hooks (and how do you get dry?)
purplesequins · 18/11/2021 13:34

we use hand towels. plenty big enough to dry yourself.

Etching · 18/11/2021 13:37

I've struggled for a long time with this, there's nowhere for a heated towel rail due to a massive sash window in my shower room - radiator under the window.

This towel rail seems to have solved my issue. You can half fold a bath sheet over each arm, there's enough room in between them to dry and I've stood it in front of the window/radiator.

Sgtmajormummy · 18/11/2021 17:41

I got a fixable-to-radiator towel rail like the one above for €28 at a DIY store. It allows the radiator to heat the room, not just the towel and it’s so much easier than shimmying the towel through the radiator bars.

OliviaKeeling · 18/11/2021 18:01

Towel rail above the bathroom and ensuites rads.
