Although hopefully something will come up of the two interviews I have lined up. I'm tired and need a drink (again!)

What type of work are you looking for @Terribleluck?

Kfjsjdbd · 16/11/2021 15:14

It’s so brutal looking for a job isn’t it. I’ve been ghosted by a recruiter after an interview last week.

idontlikealdi · 16/11/2021 15:14

What area are you looking in?

Changethetoner · 16/11/2021 15:16

Aaaagh it is exhausting. Soul destroying. And looking for work is a full-time job in itself.

That's great you have some interviews lined up. Good luck!

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 15:16

Customer success management. Although, I'm more about the company than the role itself, but I've seen that's the easiest way to get an interview

OP posts:
Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 15:21

I just received a rejection email where they thank me for talking to them... I applied today and never talked to anyone in that company, such BS!

OP posts:
LucentBlade · 16/11/2021 15:32

What kind of salary are you after and are you willing to apply for something else?

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 15:37

35-45k (maybe 30k if desperate). I've applied for few roles within my CV scope, but 99% of the jobs I've applied for are remote as there's no industry where I live. I've interviewed for knowledge content manager, onboarding manager, CSM, CX Manager, Ops manager... I have no sales nor marketing experience.

OP posts:
Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 16:17

The past 30 have been in the past two weeks... So I know of those 30 something will come back

OP posts:
HundredMilesAnHour · 16/11/2021 16:23

It's a tough market right now, maybe more so if you're limited to remote working rather than hybrid. Is there a particular industry you're looking at that maybe someone on MN can help you with?

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 16:29

No, ome definitely not being picky, if they have a CSM role, I'm applying! They're all in tech anyways.

Do you tailor your cover letter to the charity, read between the lines of the JD and sound like someone with bite and enthusiam?

I say that as someone who is interviewing atm for a junior role- shocked by the lack of and quality of cover letters.

The ones who edge up are those who have showed they are responding to the JD/PS in the cover letter and understand what the role is and the context, rather than just reeling off in detail what they did at X company. Also the ones who describe achievements.

By contrast, I am interviewing candidates for junior-mid level roles (for the UK arm of a very large global organisation) and we have no interest in cover letters whatsoever.

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 17:01

If I use a cut off date of up to two weeks ago, about 20% of all applications move forward to Interview stage. For this particular type of role, 40% seems to be the interview ratio. I do personalise as much as possible but literally all job spec are copy pasted (they all ask for the same things) so I just say how much I like that sector, and how I fit within the company culture.

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 17:03

@hundred some job application management plarforms don't even let you upload a cover letter.

EngTech · 16/11/2021 17:06

It’s a numbers game but a case use each application as a learning process and if you get an interview but no job offer, again, a learning curve

It is brutal but think of it as a marathon not a sprint

Good luck for the future 👍👍

Tabbacus · 16/11/2021 17:07

If you have relevant experience etc then there is probably something you're putting that is not appealing, no offense, not everyone is good at applications even if they'd be amazing at the job. Can you get a friend to have a read through (even better if they have any involvement with recruitment where they work) and give some honest feedback?

KenAdams · 16/11/2021 17:09

OP I'm going to PM you a role

HundredMilesAnHour · 16/11/2021 17:09

Have you a network that can help you get a (virtual) foot in the door? (i.e. an interview) Are you using Linked In?

KeyErro · 16/11/2021 17:10

Can I PM you?

Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 17:12

The feedback I've had has been that A) I'm not really doing so terribly, and that should focus on the type of roles that have moved to the next stage. B) lie on my CV! C) merge two roles I had at the same company into one D) somebody told me I was too much of a generalist to ask for that type of salary. But overall, the overwhelming feedback is that I'm doing OK, just that I haven't found "the one" yet.

OP posts:
KeyErro · 16/11/2021 17:14

Are you looking to work remotely?
Remotive.io often has good roles

graceandgratitude · 16/11/2021 17:14

This might be a long shot, but if you ping me your LinkedIn I can share it with a women's health tech group I am part of - it's full of founders/people in health tech, probably more in the start up side of things, but you never know it is sometimes about timing!

I hate recruitment processes. If I can help at all I will! Next year we will need a customer success person but we're not hiring currently!

Tabbacus · 16/11/2021 17:15

If your experience is fairly generalist then make sure you really pull into the skills and criteria they're listing, would you be flexible in applying for other roles with a view to side step/be promoted? That feedback sort of suggests it's probably more to do with the role rather than the companies and applications.
Terribleluck · 16/11/2021 17:15

Of course you can @Keyerro!
