What finger food would you serve at a small party?

So nothing I have to stand cooking? Isn’t a dancing party, more drinks but want to supply finger foods? There’s pizza and sausage rolls and crisps…. But I don’t want it looking like a kids tea party Blush finger foods so no need for sit down knife and forks??

Fresh fruit skewers.

Deadringer · 15/11/2021 17:52

I would serve samosas, spring rolls, sausage rolls, and chicken gougans/wings, all of which always goes down really well. (None of it homemade btw) i would usually do chips and dips too, but as pp said, probably not a good idea at the moment.

Mini fish and chips? Separate plates for people with dietary requirements especially medical ones (if applicable). There's nothing worse food wise than finding nothing you can eat because it has all been cross contaminated 😫

Gougères - they are little cheese puffy things www.ocado.com/products/picard-30-mini-cheese-gougeres-frozen-352528011

Cheese and Chorizo Rollitos. Delicious

They really are, aren't they. I sometimes buy them as a treat when M&S ones are on special offer from Ocado, but they're probably not too difficult to make and that would be more economical.

Lots of napkins. Nothing requiring cocktail sticks or a serving spoon and no dips that bits of food could get stuck in/fall apart.

Plain (ie not sweet) pancakes spread with pesto or tapenade and rolled. Then slice for a grownup version of pinwheels.

Buy some large spanish omelettes and then cut small circles (or christmassy shapes) out (save the trimmings for breakfast)

Get a punnet of mushrooms. Peel if necessary and remove stalks. Chop stalks finely and mash with a bit of goats cheese and pesto. Spoon goats cheese mix into the mushroom caps and bake for 1520 minutes.

Plus nice grissini, cheese straws, nuts etc

Please buy nice drinks for those (of us) who don’t drink. No fizzy water, coke etc but something tasty.

Thelnebriati · 15/11/2021 19:04

See if you can get a load of ice cube tongs (we got ours 5 for a £1), they are perfect for picking up small food items and you can use them to eat finger food. Much better than plastic forks imo.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 15/11/2021 19:20

Bought Spanish omelette, good bread, cheese and charcuterie board with olives and fruit.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 15/11/2021 19:21

With adequate cheese knives and forks, no reason why sharing boards shouldn’t be covid compliant

Westfacing · 15/11/2021 19:29

No charcuterie, cheeseboards and 'good' breads!

Far easier to have samosas, goujons, tartlets, etc. Just small things that guests can pick up and eat - no faffing around with cutlery.

Westfacing · 15/11/2021 19:34

Does anyone serve 'bad' bread?

RallySooney · 15/11/2021 19:34

Falafels

Denise Royle, by then Best, in The New Sofa. Where they have sliced loaf but get to pick whether they want triangles or oblongs Grin

Dontmindasking · 15/11/2021 19:56

Ok didn’t think about dips… good point… what is wrong with the meat/cheese board if I have seperate forks/etc to serve them?

Good idea for a Bellini….

Nothing wrong with meat/cheese board and separate forks, etc., but you asked about finger foods!

Hugoslavia · 15/11/2021 20:03

How about buy some nice cocktail sticks (not the wooden ones, but you can get some reusable ones which are clear), then skewer different cheeses, figs, continental meats, grapes on them. I did this and it was really successful. Also bought mini macarons and little cakes from M&S.

Dontgetyerknicksinatwist · 15/11/2021 20:05

Vol au vents (mixed selection)

MrsPear · 15/11/2021 20:42

Good god some posters have anxiety !

Either that or they socialise with animals.

No sharing food because of covid risk?! Really?! What kill joys - I suppose guests are outside in household groups at 2 m gaps 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway back in reality if it’s just drinks type party I would have a big board with cold meats, variety of cheese (as in different types), fruit, pickled veggies, 2 or 3 dips (even our children know not to double dip), fresh veggies like tomatoes too plus bread sticks (I put them in a tall slim vase) and little toasts. Bloody easy to look fancy - big wooden board, position dip bowls and then arrange all your bits around. Oh and don’t forget olives. Then there are bowls of nuts and crisps dotted about. Little plates, forks and paper napkins too.

TrudyRuby · 15/11/2021 21:45

I don't like cocktail sticks because they just end strewn about the place looking untidy, and the bit of food in dips just ruins it for everyone else. Nothing to do with COVID.
