So nothing I have to stand cooking? Isn’t a dancing party, more drinks but want to supply finger foods? There’s pizza and sausage rolls and crisps…. But I don’t want it looking like a kids tea party Blush finger foods so no need for sit down knife and forks??

For gods sake , nothing that stains fingers 😳.

ParadiseLaundry · 15/11/2021 15:15

I've never done this but always thought it would be a great idea for a buffet...

Battered fish fingers with tartar sauce.

Comedycook · 15/11/2021 15:18

Olives
Blinis topped with a little crème fraiche and smoked salmon

ParkheadParadise · 15/11/2021 15:23

Spring rolls

I would lose the pizza, replace with cheese straws , either home made or the fancy ones you get in boxes. Lots of sticky fingered stuff, make sure there are loads of napkins!

MissLC · 15/11/2021 15:34

Houmous, dips and veggies?

Echobelly · 15/11/2021 15:36

Iceland party platters are inexpensive and surprisingly good - used them at my 40th, just needed shoving in oven and each platter has loads.

Dontmindasking · 15/11/2021 15:45

Thanks all sounds fab. Yes lots of napkins! How about drink… how do you cater to everyone?? I have a load of Prosecco I’m hoping to shift as I don’t like it Grin what’s a non offensive red and white wine that isn’t too expensive? Plus beer…. Is there one that is most likely to get drunk then others? I don’t want to be left with a load of stuff I don’t drink… I only really like rose and cocktails Blush

Sushi

WeAreTheHeroes · 15/11/2021 15:56

Beer - depends whether folk like real ale or lager. Wine - something like Yellowtail Shiraz is made by the same makers as Black Stump which is from Laithwaites/Sunday Times Wine Club and imho very good. Not really a white wine drinker, but I'd steer clear of Californian and German whites.

WeAreTheHeroes · 15/11/2021 15:58

Ina Garden, the Barefoot Contessa has lots of party food ideas - recipes free online and she also has recipes for making cocktails in quantity. Worth a look.

All adults? Any vegetarians/vegans/people with religious or dietary reasons not to eat certain things?

Re wine - we have hardly ever thrown a party but when we did a few years ago we bought wine boxes, which were actually far better than we were expecting (ie drinkable, not vinegar) and cheaper than buying the equivalent number of bottles.

Buy some soft drinks too - nice juice, fizzy water maybe, the usual Coke/Pepsi. That way any designated drivers get something too.

Filo parcels with different types of filling.

Topbird29 · 15/11/2021 16:40

There's loads of party food in the shops now ready for xmas (mostly frozen, so just bung in the oven). Things like mozzarella sticks prawn tempura etc.
Wine - red - pinot noir is reliable - not to heavy. White - sauvignon blanc or chardonnay are what most people will be familiar with, but they can vary greatly in how they taste. Voignier is also nice.
Generally anything by Cono Sur is good (and reasonably priced).
Beer - just get some cans or bottles. Peroni or san Miguel are both OK.
And prosecco is usually appreciated by all (unless not drinking). Lots of places are doing deals on drinks (maybe 25% off when buy 6 bottles of wine /fizz etc). If you overstock on wine, can you give any unused on as xmas presents?

Topbird29 · 15/11/2021 16:42

Smoked salmon bikinis might also be good for food - can prep ahead and keep in fridge until needed.

SequinnedShawl · 15/11/2021 16:45

Cheese and Chorizo Rollitos. Delicious

Mini pork pies, vol-au-vents, mini quiches.

maddy68 · 15/11/2021 16:46

Platter of meats, cheese , sun-dried tomatoes and olives

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/11/2021 17:13

I would avoid dips with all those associated problems - questionable identity, double-dipping, blobs falling off onto carpet etc. (and that's just me!)

AdaColeman · 15/11/2021 17:37

For a welcome drink I'd do Prosecco with a couple of options of additions eg, orange juice (mimosa) or creme de cassis (kir) or peach juice (Bellini).

I'd avoid dips and sharing platters or baked camembert etc in these post Covid days.
I'd drop the cold pizza and instead do savoury twists, anchovy or cheese or tomato, made with puff pastry or bought.
Blinis are nice, but also think about something like Ritz crackers as a base.
