Where do you like to sit on a flight?

I'm travelling alone on a large aircraft in a few weeks

It's a 3-3-3 config with 2-2 at the back

Just trying to decide where I want to sit?

Where do you like to sit when you're travelling on your own?
I've only even been in business when I'm on my own so just gathering opinion Smile

Window, ideally in front of the wing, so I can look down on the world. I love the views when I fly, be it over land or sea or clouds, or with the Northern Lights over Newfoundland the first time I went to the USA overnight.

Notlostjustexploring · 15/11/2021 19:03

I usually go for the back row. As others have mentioned, turbulence and noise is worse there, but as it doesn't bother me and puts other people off, it ups my chances of not having a neighbour.

Aisle seat within 5 rows of an exit. Statistically more likely to survive a crash if you’re within those 5 rows.

I know it’s ridiculous logic and flying is safer than driving and all that but if that’s what I need to think to get on a plane, that’s what I need to think.

It’s not that ridiculous if you look at the overview.

You are far, far, far more likely to be caught up in an evacuation of some sort…(many of which actually end up being relatively benign), than a major accident involving a hull loss, where frankly your survival may be down to a roll of the dice and where you sit is ?????

Probably the most important thing you should know on every flight is exactly where the nearest exit is…forwards?, aft? How many rows? how does the seatbelt undo, that sort of thing.

@Kinsters oh my!!!!! Where were you going?
Empty planes freak me out!!!

Last time I flew @TomAllenWife, there were about 10 passengers.

It was only an 80 seat turbo prop on a very short flight, but still, the plane was almost empty.

BananaPB · 15/11/2021 20:37

I'm an aisle seat fan. Don't want to feel guilty when I have to ask the people next to me to let me out so I can go to the loo

kowari · 15/11/2021 20:41

Aisle seat, left hand side, near the wing. If it's only a four hour flight I wouldn't care as long as I wasn't in the middle.

G5000 · 15/11/2021 20:47

Front. Faffers drive me absolutely bonkers, you know the ones standing there blocking the entire planeload from boarding, because they need to decide which pen they need to take from their bag before they put it in the bin...oh no, forgot to take the notepad, let's take everything out again...hmm, what did I want now...why am I here...what's the meaning of life?
Repeat at landing.
I just want to sit down and take a nap and get out of there ASAP.

careerchangeperhaps · 15/11/2021 20:53

Not at the back (too bumpy 🤢) but other than that I don't mind which rows. I rarely need to get up for the loo so prefer a window seat so that I'm not being disturbed by the other people in my row wanting to get out.

Newestname002 · 16/11/2021 06:32

Seat 1A in BA First Class 🌹

CeeceeBloomingdale · 16/11/2021 06:45

If I'm in a hurry , no checked baggage, I'd go for aisle near the front.

More often I'm not in a hurry and have checked baggage, so then it's window, about half a dozen rows from the back on the right.

I work for an airline. Almost everyone wants to be as far forward as possible. That means the overhead lockers are alway full there. If there are any empty seats they tend to be near the back. At the back there are fewer covidy germs being breathed in your direction. Most people walk up and down the left aisles it's the side you board, the right is quieter.

takethattime · 16/11/2021 06:55

We used to go for a middle row of 3 for the 3 of us when DS was little. Now we are all aisle seats.

blobby10 · 16/11/2021 09:10

I always opt for a window seat as close to the wing as possible - I like watching the flaps operate during take off and landing !! If I can get an emergency exit seat too then all the better.

GADDay · 16/11/2021 09:16

Don't know - it's been so long.

Still no word on when international borders will open (sunny Queensland, Aus)...

😭😭😭

StillWalking · 16/11/2021 10:28

In First Class preferably.

TomAllenWife · 16/11/2021 11:03

I don't know whether to pay the £36 for extra legroom?? It's only 4 hours

I always do on long haul though, makes such a difference

Topseyt · 16/11/2021 11:21

Aisle seat for me. Preferably a few rows back from the front so not right next to the toilet (but within easy reach of it).

I don't really like having to ask strangers to move if I need to go to the toilet and get slightly panicky if I need to go but am hemmed in.

Bellabelloo · 16/11/2021 11:33

When I worked in travel I used to use this a lot: www.seatguru.com/ You can search for your exact flight and it gives you a map highlighting seats that might be noisier or have les leg room for some reason.

Bellabelloo · 16/11/2021 11:34

Oh! You've already talked about it! Sorry!!!
