Would it be possible in this day and age to keep a huge news story private?

Trying not to give a dramatic misleading title to this post and don't want to be disrespectful to the queen who I have a lot of respect for....

But...

There is rumours circulating that she has died and the news will be released on Monday. Now I'm thinking this is just conspiracy theories and there's been plenty of them about her before but would it be possible to keep something like this quiet? In a house with so many staff and the fact that there is procedures that are put in place right away (I know someone who used to cover the duty phone on rotation for when senior members of the royal family pass away) you'd think it would be leaked pretty quick?

@x2boys

It's Charles Birthday today ,surely she couldn't die on his Birthday ,I only know this because it's my birthday in a few days so it's always stuck in my mind
I know...my dad had the good grace to die the day before my birthday!🙄
generalh · 14/11/2021 20:51

I agree with them. She has lived a life full of riches, adventures and not wanting for anything. Not many of us have that.

PinkSyCo · 14/11/2021 20:51

Am I the only one who finds all this speculation that the queen has died pretty disturbing and quite disrespectful? How would you like having to read shit like this if you were her family? Besides which wtf have the powers that be got to gain from withholding news of her demise?

Tattered0wl · 14/11/2021 20:54

It's distasteful to speculate. But I can tell you that right now, she has not died. I know this because I live with someone whose job it is to immediately put into practice the procedures that would follow on her death.

Tattered0wl · 14/11/2021 20:56

In fact, think a little bit like the bat phone! With code words

The bat phone has not gone off this far this weekend

No, you are not the only one. When the Queen dies I don't think the news will be held back. The only people who think so are wacky conspiracy theorists.
A580Hojas · 14/11/2021 21:05

My grandmother's mother died on the day she gave birth to my father. Sometimes that sort of unhappy stuff happens. I don't believe for one second the RF would alter the timing of major news events like the death of Elizabeth.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 14/11/2021 21:25

Was wondering when " my husband has a important job so I would know" would be said!
I also see that the scum bag Morgan has been speculating on Instagram

HeartsAndClubs · 14/11/2021 21:50

I know this because I live with someone whose job it is to immediately put into practice the procedures that would follow on her death. of course you do. And obviously if he’d put procedures in place you’d be aware of it and would be logging on to mumsnet to confirm the speculation.

I would assume that if someone lives with someone who is so privy to such information they will be bound by the official secrets act and you wouldn’t be permitted to talk about such elements of their work on a public platform.

But there’s always one on these threads.

It’s like when the schools closed with covid and so many people claimed that their DH/DM/DSis was a head teacher and they’d been told that school would open next week or not for another month etc. As it is teachers and head teacher found out the same time as the news announcements.
Tattered0wl · 14/11/2021 22:23

You don't have to believe me. I didn't say my husband had an important job - could you point to my post where I said that? Did I mention a husband? Nope

I couldn't give a toss what you think. I'm telling the truth.

Why don't you just follow the news from a reliable source and not add to the speculation, if there is any. I do t understand all these threads about things that may or may not be true!

This.

Watch the news, read quality newspapers, ignore speculation & conspiracy theories because that's just what this is.

No-one needs to talk about this until it actually happens.

Lots of people will know before the news goes public. Someone who works for a local radio station for example. They will have to know to organise a change of schedule etc. But they will only have a hour or so as notice and will have something on standby, they always do. It’s quite possible that something like HM dying could happen with a good few hours before someone at Radio Stoke gets a call.

I worked at a local radio station in the 90s and the death of the Queen and other major royals was rehearsed regularly then.

Hydrate · 15/11/2021 07:34

I feel so sad.

RockinHorseShit · 15/11/2021 07:42

Can they keep stories out of the press... yes for sure, Goves left leaning, alternative drug dabbling daughter not hitting the tabloids is a good example

Is the queen dead & they are hiding it. Very unlikely given both her & Philip have died man times over since they were about 60, if you believe the rumours

LunaTheCat · 15/11/2021 07:51

@FourTeaFallOut

I think they'd at least say she'd been admitted to hospital, not just that she sprained her back. AFAIK, you can't die from that

NHS helpline will be clogged with terrified people thinking they're on the out while they clutch their back.

😂😂.
turnthebiglightoff · 15/11/2021 07:55

I am someone who has to put certain procedures into practise when the Queen dies. I am very very unimportant in the grand scheme of things but I will receive "prior warning" before the public - depending on the time it happens. Lots of people have jobs where this is the case. I prob won't come on here and tell anyone though, just FYI! Also, there is super clear protocol about when and how it will be announced. No one will wait more than 12 hours. If it happens at a weekend, it will be reported at the weekend, unless it happens late on Sunday night.

Lockheart · 15/11/2021 08:34

It is true that there will be many people who have some advance warning to a lesser or greater extent before the general announcement is made to the public. It doesn't make them super important or high up (although some of them will be of course). It will involve those in the commonwealth around the world, other world leaders, the police and the military, the church, broadcasters and other media, royal household staff and personal family staff etc etc. For example, radio broadcasters will certainly get a few minutes advance notice at the very least so all the stations can switch to the news at the right time. Similarly, all the BBC TV channels will simultaneously need to go to their holding screens and then converge on the news. This will involve quite a few people!

lollipoprainbow · 15/11/2021 18:35

Apparently the radio stations will start playing 'haunted dancehall' just listened it's very foreboding music indeed.Confused

ivykaty44 · 15/11/2021 21:54

lollipoprainbow what is this music?

I suspect there is a consensus that politicians’ children shouldn’t (generally) be the subject of media stories. It’s not their fault who their parents are.
