I have to place a shoe on my car for Covid NO.3 Do you?

Tomorrow I get my 3rd Covid jab (I am CEV).
It's a mass drive through operation.

Just had a message from my GP surgery.

"Please place a shoe on your windscreen if you had a reaction of a rash/nettle type following your last vaccine.

Just so many questions regarding this.. if I place a wellie boot does that mean I had mega rash all over? A slipper means "ummm a slight tiny rash"........

Will they judge if its a dirty old dog walking trainer I place on windscreen?

Awaiting someone medical to come along and explain wtf this is about

Summerfun54321 · 12/11/2021 18:13

😂 I’m getting mine this weekend, haven’t been told to put a shoe anywhere though 😂

dgirluk · 12/11/2021 18:16

For people asking about the drive through - I had a drive through flu jab last year. I just drove up to a big sort of open tent/gazebo, the nurse asked some questions through the open window, then leant in and jabbed my arm (left arm, and I was driving so she had to reach over).

Really efficient, quick, easy, and for someone as lazy as me great !

It's obvious what it's about, it allows the staff to know who had a reaction before. What is funny about it is the method they are using.

cowburp · 12/11/2021 18:17

@thereisonlyoneofme

I think you are supposed to put the shoe on the inside of the windscreen!
Oh! I totally thought you were meant to drive around with a shoe tucked under your wiper.
cowburp · 12/11/2021 18:20

@Twitchynose

Spoiling the fun here, sorry, but do you think it was autocorrect for sign? Wasn’t there a terrible decorated steampunk shoe on one of the Facebook tat threads recently? Sounds like it would be perfect for the job!
Nah I reckon they mean shoe. Some people can't write.
ArblemarchTFruitbat · 12/11/2021 18:23

Oh, OP, you must report back when you've been for your jab.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 12/11/2021 18:25

Get one of these?

I'm so confused by this, is this a drive through vaccination centre?
How does that work then? Do they slide a needle and a leaflet through a crack in your window and leave you to do your own?
And why a shoe 👠 of all things to choose? Why not a teddy bear or a magazine?
Please come back and tell us what happened!! Confused

Cos most people have a shoe.
Rainbowunicorn76 · 12/11/2021 21:20

Yes I do see that, but most people don't drive around with them on their car windscreen.... that's what I'm struggling with.
What happened to just talking to people?

You have to take it off when you get there I think.
cowburp · 12/11/2021 21:21

Unless it's a spare shoe

BarbaraofSeville · 12/11/2021 21:27

What? This sounds like that nonsense clickbait about putting a plastic bag on your wing mirror I keep seeing on local news websites.

TheMooch · 12/11/2021 21:34

@Twitchynose has solved the bizarreness. It has to be a autocorrect error and should be sign not shoe.

But I am taking a shoe (I didn't even have a reaction last time but that's a minor detail now)

@troppibambini6

Thanks op I'm in bed with Covid and this made me proper chuckle. Even though I did choke a bit Grin
Get well soon. Hope you are at least able to read, watch mindless TV and eat biscuits.

I wondered if putting a shoe on the outside of your windscreen once you were parked up would be an easy way of knowing who to keep the closest eye on for an allergic reaction (which is presumably what the rash question indicates a higher likelihood of). A sign may still make more sense for this than a shoe but it's much less fun...

Postdatedpandemic · 12/11/2021 21:42

This whole concept is so weird, in the UK we have right hand drive. So the concept only works for the 10% who are left handed

IaltagDhubh · 12/11/2021 21:50

Dare you to go with a whole row of shoes neatly lined up below your windscreen and along your parcel shelf. And a few tied to the rear bumper ‘just married’ style - you could write ‘just jabbed’ in shaving foam on the rear window. And when they ask you about all the shoes, feign total ignorance.

I had my third jab a week ago and I wasn’t asked about any rash. I had little spots all over my arms and chest after the first. And then the skin on my fingers peeled off which was a bit gross.

Crunchymum · 12/11/2021 22:03

Are you allowed to just drive off afterwards?

Don't you have to do the 15 minute wait? (due to risk of reaction, which would be potentially very dangerous if you are behind the wheel)

I cannot even begin to think about the 👞

Why? I’m right handed and had my flu jab in the left arm in a drive through.
Mantlemoose · 12/11/2021 22:32

I'm due mine on Monday. Desperately hope I get the same message. Cheered me up no end!

MakeTeaNotWar · 12/11/2021 22:38

I had a massive rash all over my trunk afterwards! Is this a known reaction? The GP at the time didn't necessarily think it was anything to do with the jab. AZ if that's relevant

TheMooch · 13/11/2021 21:05

UPDATE

It's a thing. Not an autocorrect.

People did have shoes on the windscreens if they'd had a reaction previously.
Reason it was a shoe is because we all would have some sort of footwear.

Wonderful madness.

Amazing! That sounds like it would make a great photo for the local paper!
