Very hard hitting, serious question....

Plate or a bowl for eating Chinese take away?

OP posts:

Straight out of the plastic pot. Grin

purplemunkey · 12/11/2021 12:38

plate

Depends what it is, normally a pasta bowl.

OK, so I recognise that I am probably not normal Grin

chinese takeawya usually means a birthday, so we have it at the table with all the trimmings.
Chinese mats underneath (they were a random present form someone)
Chopsticks.
plate with a small rice bowl on top.

Eat by filling your rice bowl with rice, adding meat/sauce etc and then holding small bowl and eating with chopsticks.

We love the whole - 'doing it properly' thing.

We always use plates but now I am wondering if we have been doing it all wrong. Why did I never think of using a pasta bowl 😭

Much less chance of your crispy wotsits flying off the edge Grin

Bowls/chopsticks for esting. We don't decant the food from the carryout containers.

ninjashark · 12/11/2021 12:52

Either straight from the tub or in pasta bowl

MadisonAvenue · 12/11/2021 12:53

Straight out of the containers that it came in.

We all share whatever we have bought so it ends up quite a mixture - definitely a pasta bowl to stop sloppier things going awol.

It all gets spread out on the kitchen table, we fill our bowls and then scuttle back to the sitting room to eat it and watch TV. Usually on a saturday night.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 12/11/2021 12:55

Also weird here. We dont always ear at the table so roast dinners and takeaways we do.
Plate. All dishes set out in the middle. Glad of alcohol to go with it (or fizzy drinks) as we dont drink them routinely either.

shumway · 12/11/2021 12:55

Plate.

ISaidDontLickTheBin · 12/11/2021 12:55

pasta bowl - good size and keeps the sauce nicely contained.

If I'm eating in a chinese restaurant I'd always use chopsticks, but use a fork for takeaway at home.

Dollywilde · 12/11/2021 12:59

Another pasta bowl user here. We’re religious about eating properly at the table with plates when DD is around but takeaway is a post kids bedtime treat, so you need it in a bowl so it can be eaten on the sofa Grin

Comefromaway · 12/11/2021 13:01

Plates. Our cereal bowls are too small.

HelplesslyHoping · 12/11/2021 13:02

Pasta bowls. They're like big plates with straight sides so nothing goes flying off the edge. We use chopstics and and a spoon

DanceWithYourBalloon · 12/11/2021 13:03

Pasta bowl with a bit of everything in it. Then carpeted with crispy seaweed! 🤩

nousernamehere01 · 12/11/2021 13:03

We use plates, a little pile of each item ordered. The next day it's heated up and eaten straight out the tub 😂

moocow123 · 12/11/2021 13:04

Bluntness100 · 12/11/2021 13:05

Yes pasta bowls here too, we have a very larg coffee table, we shove it all in the middle, just take the lids off and then everyone helps themselves whilst lounging on the sofas. Very seldom eat a takeaway at the table, for us it’s just a lazy meal.

Quite fancy a Chinese takeaway now,😂

StormyCornishSeas · 12/11/2021 13:07

Pasta bowl for mains

Spring rolls etc on side plates

Big salad bowl for prawn crackers

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 12/11/2021 13:09

Plates, we don't own pasta bowls though.

TambourineTimesThree · 12/11/2021 13:10

Stupid question, but how do you eat from the tubs? Don't you need some sort of plate/bowl to decant the rice and add the main dish on top?

Unless you're having an all-in-one rice or noodle dish.

Doomscrolling · 12/11/2021 13:12

Pasta bowls, because it’s less messy.
Fork for him, chopsticks for me.
