Very hard hitting, serious question....

Plate or a bowl for eating Chinese take away?

OP posts:

On a plate with a fork, no sharing with anyone. Me egg fried rice and whatever main I fancy this week, DP with his chips and duck curry (EVERY flippin time Grin). Prawn crackers (free) are all mine as DP doesn't like them.

I can't use chopstick to eat rice, I need more than one grain at a time!

sashh · 12/11/2021 15:01

Rice bowls with chop sticks.

I have bamboo chopsticks, wooden and metal.

I used to house share with a Chinese guy so I pick the bowl up and shovel food in.

Mrsjayy · 12/11/2021 15:03

If you are eating rice with chopsticks you need to squeeze a lot together then you can get more that a grain.

Plate and NO sharing!!!

DeathMetalMum · 12/11/2021 15:15

Pasta bowls and spoons. We share a few bits so can't eat out of the tub.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 12/11/2021 15:24

Pasta bowl here! Which by the way I only found out were called pasta bowls, I just thought they were a big bowl Blush

coogee · 12/11/2021 15:30

That is the authentic way. Funny how westerners insist on using chopsticks but don’t go the full hog.

So to speak.

Straight from the Carton

cliffdiver · 12/11/2021 15:36

Also pasta bowls.

TheDuchessOfDork · 12/11/2021 20:43

As a direct result of this thread, I am currently unpacking a Chinese takeaway!!

RightOnTheEdge · 12/11/2021 21:11

Pasta bowl here too. With a fork, I never use chopsticks.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 12/11/2021 21:13

We have extra extra large plates for the occasion...... Ds gets very excited if he comes home and its a square plate night! Grin

ImInStealthMode · 12/11/2021 21:14

Just had one, pasta bowls.

Nearlytheretrees · 12/11/2021 21:15

Pasta bowl, I've never mastered chopsticks though

Youcancallmeval · 12/11/2021 21:16

Bowls and chopsticks. I love using chopsticks, they make me happy.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 12/11/2021 21:28

Eh?
The plastic container they come in, of course. Grin
I mean, surely half the reason people get a takeaway is because they can't be arsed cooking or washing up lol.
or is that just me

MajorCarolDanvers · 12/11/2021 21:30

Large pasta bowls

AdaColeman · 12/11/2021 21:40

I’ve got a nice blue & white Chinese dinner service, bowls, serving bowls,
plates and cups, so use that when I’ve cooked Chinese food or for the occasional Chinese takeaway.

I know.

In Chinese restaurants I get a knowing look and a smile.

I had a nomadic late 20s early 30s so I've house shared with people from India, Jamaica and NZ.

I can eat a curry politely with my hands and I can make a proper rum punch.

halloweenie13 · 13/11/2021 05:49

I rarely have it, only when visiting my parents or grandparents home and then we typically have it in the decent pasta bowls or plates as my grandad always believes if were going to spend a lot on a nice Chinese as a family then it's worth the same treatment as a nice family dinner or mid level restaurant plates.

Nyxly · 13/11/2021 05:58

We usually put a few okats and bowls out. Let everyone grab what they want.

I usually use a small deep plate.

On chop sticks, we use them alot. I am doing the supermarket shopping today. Saturday dinner is usual Korean chicken, some sushi and dumplings. Our Asda has a Korean food stand that makes fresh food to warm up. The kids love it. They give chopsticks out with the meals. Dd, alos likes cooking Japanese, Korean, Chinese food so we do use chop sticks a couple of times a week.

I have used them for years. But have no idea how I know, I am guessing I was taught in a restaurant of some description. Dd learned from YouTube.

@Bluntness100

Yes pasta bowls here too, we have a very larg coffee table, we shove it all in the middle, just take the lids off and then everyone helps themselves whilst lounging on the sofas. Very seldom eat a takeaway at the table, for us it’s just a lazy meal.

Quite fancy a Chinese takeaway now,😂

Are you my family?
Yogaandcocoa · 13/11/2021 06:33

Bowls

Big ones (pasta bowls)

SophieHatterPendragon · 13/11/2021 06:37

When I was growing up it was a very special occasion so then the slight heater and bowls would come out with chopsticks

Now as an adult it’s only me that likes Chinese (DH is weird about food) so straight out the plastic tubs. I eat the things separately so no need for a plate or bowl 😂
