Fuming with Boots

I went to buy some perfume advertised as reduced to £28 from £72, it was out of stock online but available in store.Except it was still full price in store, how can they do that?

I was fuming, what a waste of time, I got up early on my day off, still suffering with post-covid headaches and tiredness, to go on a wild goose chase, a bloody con to get people in their shops. They probably think people will buy something else while they are there, but it's made me determined not to buy anything at all from them.

Lots of places do online only offers, it's hardly their fault you went out when you were feeling like shit.

AmyDudley · 11/11/2021 18:11

Next time phone the store to check before you go.

SleighBells21 · 11/11/2021 18:12

Well did you ask them why?

HeartsAndClubs · 11/11/2021 18:13

Most places do online offers only. The website/email you had will have said that it was online only.

And really, fuming?why are people on mn always “fuming”?

plumpylumpydumpy · 11/11/2021 18:23

To be honest, they've done worse as a company!

grapestar · 11/11/2021 18:26

This.
JennyDune · 11/11/2021 18:34

1st world problem imo. Lol.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/11/2021 18:37

I do think it should be made very clear when the online price is different to the store price. I have had a similar experience, OP (also with Boots) and found it annoying too

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 11/11/2021 18:39

it was out of stock online but available in store

They should've made it clear it was an online-only offer.

LandGirlJudy · 11/11/2021 18:41

I wouldn't be very impressed either OP. Not sure why people's first response is attack and make people feel more shit on here these days.
I remember when this was all fields...

WestendVBroadway · 11/11/2021 18:43

I was looking for a specific book to give my DSis as part of her birthday present last month. It was out of stock in local bookshops, so checked if WHSmiths sold it. It came up on website at £6.99, so popped into my local branch where they charged me £9.99. I questioned it and they said it was cheaper online, so I put it back and got it from Amazon out of principle.

makelovenotpetrol · 11/11/2021 18:44

Massive overreaction.

Aderyn21 · 11/11/2021 18:46

I think if they are out of stock online then they ought to sell the product in store for the online offer price. Shops are always offering things online that they don’t actually have —looking at you Argos—

Bamaluz · 11/11/2021 19:07

I was expecting people to say I was over reacting.
Par for the course here these days.
I went out especially to get an item that was advertised at a specific price, and after checking online that it was in stock in the store, I expected to buy it at that price . Nobody can tell me they wouldn't have been annoyed.
I was fuming, I was cursing, I still think they shouldn't be allowed to do that. Bastards

I think Boots online is run by a different company than the stores, if that makes sense. I was given gift vouchers for them last year that were in store only.

A long time ago I worked for John Lewis and it was the same - the website was run by an outsourced company.

Yogawankonobi · 11/11/2021 19:28

‘ I was fuming, I was cursing, I still think they shouldn't be allowed to do that. Bastards’

Slightly ott

DaisyNGO · 11/11/2021 19:30

OP right at the bottom, in the small print, it says "prices may vary in store". That's quite crap from a customer perspective.

Bookishnerd · 11/11/2021 19:30

I think you’ve got every right to be a bit perturbed, OP.

It’s annoying to do a wild good chase.

But I do wonder if fuming is an overreaction.

icelolly12 · 11/11/2021 20:02

If that's the biggest problem in your life thank your lucky stars

cowburp · 11/11/2021 20:04

Tweet them and ask them to make it clearer?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 11/11/2021 20:05

You defo cant blame Boots for this. This is a huge over reaction.

Rainbowheart1 · 11/11/2021 20:07

What a waste of time, I would be frustrated too!

Hope you feel better soon.

Kummerspeck · 11/11/2021 20:09

I had similar at Waterstones. Book DD needed at uni was online at one price but when she went to get it at the campus store it was £7 dearer. I rang our local store who were selling it at a third price which was between the two.
Manager told me they sell cheapest online, slightly higher at town centre shops and highest at university branches. Ridiculous!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/11/2021 20:14

I don't think OP thinks it's the world biggest problem, but I can see why it would naff you off. I've had similar from Boots, where it said the price should have been the same, but wasn't. I was annoyed too, despite having plenty of other stuff to think about. Hmm

HalfpastFlea · 11/11/2021 20:20

Don't most people know online and instore have different offers?

If it was one of their Black Friday deals, it clearly states online only was it the MK one?
