Period blood staining bed

My DD has started her periods, only twice so far. Both times she was heavy enough to leak through both pads and period pants.

She is only just 11 and is not interested in tampons.

What can I put on her bed to protect her new mattress?

She hated the plastic backed terry sheets that she had when she was younger.

I've seen some sort of washable pad things that you can put on the middle of the sheet. But was wondering if a folded towel would do?

The terry waterproof mattress protectors from ASDA if you are in the uk are brilliant we have them on all our beds , no rustling and you wouldn't know it was there

I used these after I had my son and they were so much more comfortable and absorbed much more than pads, no leaks at all.

Yes but how the hell do you get it out of the dheets? I've ruined 3 lovely sheets Can't get the stains out
Pour some biological liquid directly onto the stain, rub in some Oxy stain remover powder. Add more bio liquid and a scoop of oxy powder into the machine drawer. Wash on the hottest wash.

This works on dried up blood stains. The sheets come out perfectly clean.

Wow that sounds really heavy. I use modi bodi and they are amazing I've never bled through. Is it worth experimenting with some different makes? Is there a chance the pad wasn't on properly? Poor love that does sound heavy 😢

@musicalfrog

Could you offer her some period pants? To wear along with a pad at night.
She said she was wearing them in the op

You need to find the ones where the absorbable bit goes from the front waistband, right under and up to the back waistband.

DD1 has Floweret period pants, the absorbant bit goes right up to the waistband at the back. At the front it doesn't go all the way up to the waistband but it's pretty high.

These are what I use (well the supermarket cheapo ones) during the first few days of my period until it's light enough to be able to use normal pads without the fear of leaking.

Cheeky wipes pants go all the way up with the thick part. I sleep in those.

Wash out sheets in cold water and bio detergent first. Hot water sets the stain

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 12/11/2021 19:13

Whoa pants have a super duper heavy pair of period knickers, the most absorbent I’ve come across. Maybe they’d help? Or the modi-bodi most absorbent version?

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 12/11/2021 19:13

Wuka not whoa. Sorry

Science says that’s true - something to do with proteins. However, I always rub the stain with bio liquid & oxy stain remover powder and put the sheets in a hot 95 degree wash. They come out spotless so not sure how that works.
