I just can't quite manage it....the sour taste etc...

@faithfulbird20

I want to like eating it for my teeth. I'm trying to avoid sugar...honey makes my teeth hurt a lot...but I guess a drop wouldn't be that bad...
Just make sure you eat it with a meal ,that's the most important issue for dental care.

Aldi and Lidl full fat Greek style yogurt are thick and creamy and not sour at all. A lot better than the standard offering from the larger supermarkets and far cheaper than Fage or Finest level supermarket ones.

Yes per pp, make your own. Very easy with UHT and one small pot of Yeo valley. Buy a yoghurt maker, don't be fermenting stuff in your airing cupboard. Homemade tastes much nicer.

I either mix in a bit of homemade lemon curd or rose hip syrup.

Rainbowheart1 · 10/11/2021 11:38

Don’t get low fat, that’s no good for you anyway, I love yogurt! Honey and fruit, I also chop some nuts and add loads of different seeds, it’s so good I can fob it off as desert to the kids!

VioletCharlotte · 10/11/2021 11:45

I use maple syrup instead of honey. Try adding some berries and nuts (I like pecans).

How about you just avoid eating sugar but also eat things that you like. You don't have to eat food that you think tastes awful, there's such a massive variety of foods out there.
WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 10/11/2021 11:50

I add fruit and or honey

idontlikealdi · 10/11/2021 11:50

Waitrose No 1 is the best, and definitely not low fat. Aldi's is good when they have it but mine has moved to Greek style which is horrid. Sainsbury's TTD is good too. I love Greek yoghurt I eat it on its own or berries it a couple if drops if vanilla extract.

Namechangeisgood · 10/11/2021 11:53

I'm a Greek yoghurt addict and yes, the Aldi one is the best/cheapest (combo) I've tried. Don't get "Greek style" and stay away from low-fat!

Start off with a drizzle of honey and then gradually reduce it (same is true of anything you're used to eating sweetened, I did the same thing with porridge). Greek yoghurt, bananas and frozen berries with a sprinkle of seeds on the top - heaven.

fantasmasgoria1 · 10/11/2021 12:01

I buy fat free skyr which is really nice. I add grains and linseed mix powder to it and it's really good.

Fallagain · 10/11/2021 12:50

You need a good yoghurt. Try real Greek yoghurt but not ‘greek style’.

Onatree · 10/11/2021 12:53

For me - culturally - plain yoghurt is a savoury. Some things I am used to -

  1. It gets lemon squeezed into it, seasoning, crushed garlic - as a dip for breads.
  2. it gets finely chopped cucumbers, onions and tomatoes in - with cumin and seasoning to become - Raita
  3. It gets mixed with a bit of mayo and garlic powder - as a yummy garlic dip
  4. It becomes Tzatziki.

In whichever version of the above it gets eaten copiously.

it becomes a problem if I try to eat it as pudding, or sell it as pudding to my British born and bred household. But if eliminate the pudding route, and I do the above, it suits my Asian taste buds fine and my British household just fine too.

Full fat plain Greek yoghurt is lovely. I have it with honey and walnuts mixed in

Dutchesss · 10/11/2021 12:57

Full fat Greek yogurt, any brand, and strawberries. I would choose this over most other desserts.

purplesequins · 10/11/2021 12:59

greek style taste less acidic.
full fat even less so.
add some seeds.
add some berries.
add dried fruit.

Ozanj · 10/11/2021 13:02

Buy fresh yoghurt and consume it within 3 days. Thicker Greek or Icelandic style sieved yoghurts are slower to sour but it’s swings and roundabouts because they are quicker to go off.

UnaOfStormhold · 10/11/2021 13:09

Yeo valley natural or greek are my favourites - not sharp or sour at all.

Iusedtoliveinsanfrancisco · 10/11/2021 13:19

Iceland Greek yogurt - mix it with oats- lovely. I’ve just lost 1 stone!!

Shockingggg · 10/11/2021 13:26

M&S 10% fat Greek Yoghurt or Yeo Valley thick - both delicious. Be sure to eat full fat not low fat in order to get the pre-biotics to support your microbiome / gut.

These are lush with chopped fruit, smashed raspberries etc. Yes my son loves it and he never eats yoghurt with sugar.

EmmaStone · 10/11/2021 13:27

Yes, another one shouting for real Greek yoghurt (or I also like the Yeo Valley Kerned, which seems very similar).

I have it most mornings with muesli, homemade compote, blueberries and seeds. Also use it for savoury cooking (tzatziki, maybe a stroganoff etc)

loislovesstewie · 10/11/2021 13:32

I eat plain Greek yoghurt every day, sometimes put a small drizzle of honey on, but plain is fine by me.

eddiemairswife · 10/11/2021 13:33

My house is a yogurt-free zone.

antsinyourpanta · 10/11/2021 13:38

Sainsburys organic plain yoghurt is really nice, or yeo valley. Or Greek yoghurt
Anything low fat or fat free is sour and nasty (IMHO)

dreamingofsun · 10/11/2021 13:51

lakeland yogurt maker is great. takes about 1 minute to make and turn on before i go to bed and ready in the morning
