Did you have unexpected benefits eating lower carbs?

I'm not low carbing per se but I have inadvertently been eating lower carbs due to a change in work circumstances.
Apart from weight loss, did anybody find anything else good happen that they weren't expecting?

My pleasure! But you're the one who did the hard work Smile

IBS went away; period cramps stopped; gums are healthier because no sugar means less plaque; arthritis in my fingers cleared up and I'm still pain-free eight years on; I never get headaches any more... oh and I'm 30 lb lighter plus at age 45 I have optimal blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol levels despite a family history of high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.

Those whose IBS improved, were you more of the constipation end or the diarrhea side? I'm wondering why it made mine worse (well the fibre made mine worse, so I know 'what' but you get me).

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches

I hardly ever fart.

My snoring improved dramatically within about a week. I have an app that monitors my snoring and I went from epic snoring for most of the time I was asleep to moderate snoring for part of the time I was asleep.

I wish! (re the snoring). I could even hear myself snoring this morning. How is that even possible? Confused

I suspect it cleared up because I cut out wheat. How long did you eat low carb for? Some people do get issues with their bowels at first. Also, have you ever looked into whether FODMAPs might be an issue for you?

Has it helped anyone with rosacea? I'm wondering if the anti-inflammatory thing might help.

RacketeerRalph · 09/11/2021 10:02

StuntNun 6-7 months in the hope it'd clear up but it just got worse. I can't have too much fibre, I need the carbs to spread out the fibre. I can't eat beans or pea protein, bran or large volumes of anything fibrous, including veg.

Appleseesaw · 09/11/2021 10:43

I love carbs, but the benefits listed here are really tempting me to try it.

StuntNun · 09/11/2021 12:32

@RacketeerRalph maybe carnivore would be worth a try? No fibre there.

StarShapedWindow · 09/11/2021 13:09

I don’t eat carbs but I’m not following a diet, I just avoid them because they give me awful heartburn and acid reflux. I do eat honey although not often. I have noticed a reduction in my weight - I wish like some other posters my period pains would stop - that sounds wonderful!

I have actually considered it but I do enjoy veg, not sure I could give it up!

More energy
Far far fewer farts
