Could you survive all day in the pub?

Not quite all day, but bear with me...

I have a very dear friend with a shared sporting interest. We travel all over to see our team. Usually we make a day of it and see the sites of the area we're visiting before the game, perhaps a pint or two with lunch then dinner and drinks afterwards. We do both enjoy a drink but I'm not as good at it as I used to be. TBH this friend is really the only person I drink with these days

The star attraction of the town for this weekend seems to be a pub/brewery. We're both real ale fans and the place sounds great, but I'm worried I might not survive a whole day!

Friend is very easy company, we could easily sit and chat all day, I'm worried about my capacity for alcohol.

We'll travel up by train, probably arrive 11am ish and be away to the game by 3pm then carry on after.

Could you do it?

Yes but that's because I drink tea & hot chocolate at the pub but I'm almost teetotal!

Christmasadverthell · 04/11/2021 21:41

I have a 3 year old, I would give anything for a full day drinking in a pub with a good mate. I can barely remember those days

Practicebeingpatient · 04/11/2021 21:45

I couldn’t do it. I dislike drinking soft drinks in pubs and I couldn’t drink alcohol all day. I’d need to have a nap under the table at some point.

MrsJBaptiste · 04/11/2021 21:53

I'm just not very good at moderation once I get a taste for it

Oh, me too 😊 but then I start thinking "eating is cheating" and it really gets out of hand! 😨

DerAlteMann · 04/11/2021 22:29

Only too easily. Would depend on the pub, of course.

RampantIvy · 04/11/2021 23:22

My tolerance for alcohol isn't very high these days, and half half a bottle of wine I would want to eat and then drink tea.

I sound so boring Grin

Burnamer · 05/11/2021 06:22

OP what exactly are you asking? You apparently can’t drink soft drinks (not even water?)
You want to drink from 11am and not get drunk but I don’t really see what your question is other then asking what other people’s tolerance is. Odd.

fantasmasgoria1 · 05/11/2021 09:16

I could but only if I was able to have a couple of naps! 😂

notacooldad · 05/11/2021 10:06

It's not all day though. It's only 4 hours!

cheapskatemum · 05/11/2021 10:15

I would drink sparkling mineral water between pints. Truth be told, I'd be drinking half pints & they'd be cider, rather than real ale. That way I'd probably drink 1.5 pints alcohol during the time frame you describe & would wend my winding way to the train at the end. I'm a proper lightweight since having 4 kids & breastfeeding.

One half in pub (maybe two)
Leave for lunch (with water/coffee)
Go to match
Another 2/3 halves with/after dinner

Go home

Nice day, range of beers sampled, not drunk, no hangover. Sounds great.

languagelover96 · 05/11/2021 10:22

Yeah if there was a pub quiz etc

Firesidefox · 05/11/2021 10:42

Four hours too long. I'd go for a walk around the pub for the first hour - nice countryside? Interesting town?

I love boozing and chatting to friends but four hours in one place is too much.

Not if you have great company and some catching up to do!]
I spend that long with friends I haven't seen for two weeks!!

CSJobseeker · 05/11/2021 16:23

Break it up with snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Even real ale pubs will do you a soda water or similar.

It's not mandatory to drink alcohol all day, even if you are in a pub.

TuesdayRuby · 05/11/2021 16:25

This when you need a nice weak session ale!
And yes, could definitely do it. Just eat lots of food.

DoctorSnortles · 05/11/2021 16:28

Have a lovely time, OP. I used to love a day in the pub, back when you needed change for the jukebox and could chuff away on cigarettes all day in the warm without leaving your comfy seat.

MiniPumpkin · 05/11/2021 16:35

Yes I’d love to 🤣 just pace yourself. Enjoy

JorisBonson · 05/11/2021 16:57

Yep! We have an annual 6 Nations pub day, watch all 3 matches then go on somewhere else afterwards to celebrate / commiserate. One of my favourite days of the year.
