Sainsbury’s nectar card double up event

This may be old news that I’m just a bit behind on, but I just read that Sainsbury’s have said they aren’t doing the nectar card double up event this year, due to “lack of interest”. By which I assume they mean their lack of interest in doing it.

There’s no point to this post except to grumble sulkily about it. DD is a toddler so this year we had been planning on doing the same as last year which was to buy some toys and books for her for Christmas, then spend the rest on clothes for her that we know she needs, or some presents for other family.

I know it’s an extra offer, and they don’t promise it, but it’s annoying when I’d mentally factored it in to budgeting.

I heard this a few weeks ago. It’s frustrating - I generally buy £100 worth of stuff for Xmas. Now got to spend actual money

IsolaPribby · 03/11/2021 20:17

So, what is the actual point of Nectar points?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/11/2021 20:20

Definitely wasn't a lack of interest when I went in last year... those sections were heaving with people who had come in especially.

We don't have as many points to spend this year though as its no longer our most convenient petrol station.

I know. Obviously I can still spend the points I have. I’m just grumpy about it.

They're doing something different called count up to Christmas. We're spending a normal amount, but since it started at the beginning of Oct, when we were probably on about 7000 points for the year so far, we have had 400 extra points from this bonus thing.

I do realise that at this rate the "bonus" will have amounted to less than a tenner by Christmas, whereas I think we doubled up £100 into £200 last year.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 03/11/2021 20:44

I didn't realise this, how disappointing. We doubled up £50 last year and covered wine and a few other bits. I'm doing the count up to Christmas thing but it won't cover anything like that.

claracluck1978 · 03/11/2021 20:45

Judging by our local Sainsburys they wouldn't have the stock to be able to sell everyone!

RandomMess · 03/11/2021 20:47

Nooooooooooooo I wanted to spend it all on my favourite wine Sad

Rosewaterblossom · 03/11/2021 20:57

What was the double up event?

purpledagger · 03/11/2021 21:17

Rosewaterblossom the double up event allowed you to double the value of your nectar points in certain Departments like clothes. If you had lots nectar points and doubled them up, you could do pretty well out of it. One year, I bought a £80 electric toothbrush for £20 by doubling up my vouchers.

EllieLeopard · 03/11/2021 21:20

“Lack of interest” !!!
What absolute codswallop. Sainsbury’s must think their customers are stupid too!

MrsJBaptiste · 03/11/2021 22:15

FFS, I've got £50 ready to double up for £100 of prosecco for Christmas 😠

Have they also stopped the 25% off clothes too?

Rummikub · 03/11/2021 22:21

I look forward to this event every year. It’s great for electrical items, my first dyson was a bargain with double up
Disappointing

smallandimperfectlyformed · 03/11/2021 22:24

That's really disappointing. I've got £43 something on my Nectar card and I'd been planning on using it to do some Christmas shopping! Plus the half price toy sale is late too

Tig33 · 03/11/2021 22:24

“Lack of interest” hmmm that seems unlikely. Nectar customers not keen to save money? I am close to £200 of nectar points and was hoping to double up some at Christmas. Plus really missing the 25% off tu and the other voucher deals they used to do for pizza express and cinema etc

ElfDragon · 03/11/2021 22:30

It’s so frustrating.

I had close on £200 of nectar points, waiting for the double up.

The count down to Christmas thing is all very well, but I don’t currently need to stockpile points - I was wanting to double up and spend them!

I’ve made a dent by buying something for dd’s Christmas on eBay for £50 of nectar vouchers, and the 10x points boost was honoured, which was a nice surprise.

SickAndTiredAgain · 03/11/2021 22:30

Their reason has irritated me more than then stopping the offer I think. I doubt there was lack of interest in essentially free money.

Last year we had £45 to double, DD was 18 months. So we got a couple of toys and a few books, then went and spent the rest on 18-24 month clothes we knew she’d need. Got £92 worth for £2 of actual money. Definitely not something I have a lack of interest in!

This is really annoying. You can only spend so much each time to use it on a normal shop as well. I was pissed off when we went to Vue only to discover you couldn't spend them there anymore either. Meanwhile my friend has just paid for a very nice two night hotel stay with Clubcard vouchers 🙄.

This has been us the last few years. Double up £50 to £100 and got wine. Disappointed as we have done better this year and have about £75 now.
GodspeedJune · 03/11/2021 22:44

Naughty to say it’s a lack of interest. Always busy at my local Sainsbury’s for this event. I save my nectar points for double up time, don’t spend them on anything else.

SaltedCaramelHC · 03/11/2021 22:48

I know - I was saving up this year specially, and was very disappointed to find that I couldn't do it this time. I was going to buy wine. Now I won't, so it's not like I'll be spending more money there or anything. I'll either go without, or go for a deal elsewhere.

And there was tons of interest. Always packed. It's just them not wanting to give a deal this year. The count up to Christmas thing is hardly worth anything. You get an extra 100 or 150 points or whatever when you reach the targets, which amounts to a pound or two.

Rummikub · 03/11/2021 23:40

Arent Sainsburys going to do nectar offers in store similar to club card prices?
I hate the club card special price.
I feel like I’m being tricked into handing over my data by these offers.

KittyFilter · 03/11/2021 23:54

What a kick in the teeth. How many extra bottles of wine (and food) did we all buy during the various lock downs because pubs, bars and restaurants were closed and supermarkets were the only places open?

Kite22 · 04/11/2021 00:05

So, what is the actual point of Nectar points?

Well, I don't think I have spent any actual cash in Argos for about 20 years. I use Nectar points. That is for all sorts from household goods to garden furniture to wardrobes to electrical goods. All free, because I collect Nectar points when I fill up the car and on the odd occasion when I nip in to get the odd item in Sainsburys.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/11/2021 05:32

Lack of interest? What bollocks, the Moneysaving Expert crew are usually lining up to get excited about this from about September.

I'm disappointed because I actually have a decent amount of points this year and usually use them to stock up on TTD fizz for Christmas. Last year I only had about £2 of points so couldn't take part.
