Tea..

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 01/11/2021 19:06

I have just cleaned all my kitchen cupboards, and my tea selection consists of only Yorkshire Tea...which is the best in my opinion!

But I'm looking for some other types to have in, we like different flavours and I do enjoy fruit and herbal teas

What do you all enjoy? I'm intending to stock up and try many....especially as I now have cupboard space for lots of little boxes!

Ceylon is lightly fragranced - not as floral as Darjeeling or earl grey. I drink it with milk or without. It doesn't pack the pilch of anything with Assam in it - like English breakfast, which is a bit heavier.

Tea made with leaves is one of life's little ritualistic pleasures - warming the pot, pouring it out, adding the leaves, filling it up, putting the cosy on then waiting. I get why you wouldn't, but there's nothing quite like it for taking a few minutes out of the day. But I drink tea in half pint mugs so I'm not a sophisticate.

Taylor's black tea with orange and lemon is the queen of teas but pretty hard to find! Lady grey is a reasonable substitute but not in the same league at all!

BlankTimes · 01/11/2021 20:51

During the first Lockdown, DD and I decided to explore different teas. We've carried on and enjoy the variety.

Aside from the Pukka and Fortnums on the kitchen worksurface, I also have Matcha and green Gunpowder tea in the cupboard.

Do be aware some herb teas and most green teas need to be brewed at 85 degrees, so a kettle with a scale is handy, or a bit of practise with cold water in the cup first so the end result is 85 degrees.

Earl grey smells nice but tastes vile IMO. Lapsing Souchong is horrid...wtf would anyone smoke tea for?

Assam and Darjeeling are good for the two ends of Indian black teas. With milk.

A black spiced chai is nice for winter.
And a delicate Japanese

Why not get a taster selection from somewhere like Whittards and see which of those you like as a starting point?

CelebrateAndDream · 01/11/2021 21:20

Peppermint and liquorice is gorgeous ♥️

Rington's tea is, imo, the best.

They also have lovely tins but the tea is lush.

Because, not knowing where you live, I can't tempt you to a local tea merchants?Grin
I get some lovely teas from Atkinson's in Lancaster (the website name is a pun as their logo is a grasshopper, it's rather unobvious).

Good Earth Lemon and Tumeric tea is AMAZING!

GTAlogic · 01/11/2021 22:49

I have some teapigs chocolate and mint tea as well as some gingerbread spiced tea, also by teapigs. BTW their everyday brew is much nicer than the Yorkshire tea in my opinion (and I'm from Yorkshire. Sorry, not sorry).

squix · 01/11/2021 22:52

A tea advent calendar is an excellent idea. You can try different flavours without the commitment to a full box. Pukka do one as well.

amicissimma · 01/11/2021 22:54

I like Tesco's Earl Grey; I find it more subtle than the others without being bland.

Ginger/Lemon and Ginger/Spiced Ginger is nice on a cold evening and very good for a sore throat.

Peppermint is settling for the stomach.

Jasmine, as served in Chinese restaurants, is very refreshing.

Youcancallmeval · 01/11/2021 23:02

Pg tips when I want a 'normal' cup of tea.
Earl grey in a pot on an afternoon with a film and a cat to cuddle.
Dragonfly Mint is my go to throughout the whole day. I don't like it too strong so one tea bag does me 3 cups.

Tinuviel · 02/11/2021 01:42

I tried a Whittards Green Tea and Peppermint recently which was delicious with a bit of honey in. I checked their eye-watering prices and then found it in Lidl. I haven't tasted it yet but at less than £1 for a box, I figured it's worth a try!

I love Darjeeling and generally prefer loose tea. I'm not keen on Assam but like an occasional Earl Grey.

Starface · 02/11/2021 02:12

Fortnum and Mason do a good tasting box. I would previously have said Assam, but really enjoyed the added depth of a good blend from Fortnum. My second choice is Sainsbury's Red label, which are fully recyclable so enthusiastic thumbs up.

Also pukka for herbals

Are tea pigs recyclable now? I couldn't really bear the idea of little pyramids of plastic, there's no need in this day and age is there. I find them a bit insipid when I end up with them in coffee shops, but it's hard to tell because those shops often use such enormous amounts of water don't they.

I've had success with blends from T2 but it was hit and miss.

I'll have to give this a try! Although I can only find 120 to purchase so hopefully I'll like it Grin

The thing I don't like with a lot of fruit tea is the vile cat pee aftertaste a lot of them seem to have.Confused

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 02/11/2021 08:37

I really love the advent calendars ... lots to choose from as well

M&S Spiced Apple is my current favourite.

Halloweiner · 02/11/2021 18:35

Assam with just a dash of milk. Couldn't get any better!

whoami24601 · 02/11/2021 18:53

pinkdaydreams you won't regret it. And if you do I'm happy to send you my address 😁

I love Lapsang Souchong personally, but it’s an acquired taste.

I highly recommend Bird & Blend loose leaf teas, especially their Earl’s Paradise tea. They do some fun flavours.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 07/11/2021 07:54

Sounds v odd!, but Asda do an own brand rhubarb and custard “herbal” tea

To be honest, it’s the only herbal tea I’ve ever drunk that doesn’t smell amazing, but then tastes of dust

This truly has a sweet rhubarb-y raspberry ish flavour that is delicious
