iPhones please I have chance if a role wfh 100% so no commute expense or time out my day. Other option is a job 3 days in office which pays more ...it think is rather earn a bit less and not have to commute especially as winter coming ! Thoughts please ...anyone ?

It depends. Wfh isn't for everyone so if you already have done it and know you will like it then I would take less money in exchange for no commute any day.

Before the pandemic I did a mix of office and wfh and my days at home were always my favourite.

I’ve done I’d to last year and a half and love it.... don’t think I can face 3 days ...

I mean I have done wfh for last year and a half

Do whatever will suit your life balance. Sounds like it might be the WFH job?

mindutopia · 30/10/2021 15:57

Definitely the 3 days in the office. Having no daily commute may save you an hour or so at the start and end of the day. But two extra days off a week (and higher salary) would give you real usable time to do things you enjoy.

SwedishEdith · 30/10/2021 16:00

Depends on the pay difference/progression and how much you can cope with that? Personally, I'd jump at wfh all the time.

SwedishEdith · 30/10/2021 16:02

I'm presuming both are f/t with one being 2 days wfh and 3 days in the office?

PinkMoon22 · 30/10/2021 16:02

I've worked from home since it all kicked off and I was sick!
I am so pleased to be in the office two days a week and one at home now.
I was sick of the sight of my own home.

ilovebrie8 · 30/10/2021 16:23

Both are f/t jobs, one is wfh 100% other is 3 days in office and 2 days wfh but an hours commute each way and £50 per week on train fares....am erring on slightly less pay but wfh. The commute and inevitable train delays gives me a much longer day...

Is the wfh all week job 100% guaranteed to stay that way?

ilovebrie8 · 30/10/2021 18:18

Yes it is...it’s not close to home so no expectation that I’d be in the office ...

Kite22 · 30/10/2021 18:23

Well, if you have tried both, then you know what will suit you best.

I mean, for me I'd be wfh 100%, but that doesn't mean it is right for the next person.

Mantlemoose · 30/10/2021 18:25

If you want to progress in your career then office is best.

madisonbridges · 30/10/2021 18:27

I used to have a job which was out and about but the office part was wfh. I had a nervous breakdown. There was no separation out between home life and office life and the office life creeps more and more into your home life.
Plus occasionally I used to call into the office and that socialisation was just so important for me.
We're all different.

Medicaltextbook · 30/10/2021 18:38

Completely depends on your set up. If you love wfh and can afford less pay brilliant. Unless you have a really hard commute, live rurally or where weather is often bad I would not base the decision on winter weather. If you are in the UK a lot of winters aren’t too bad (I know they can be in some parts of the UK).

Look at the wfh contract carefully. Just because it is physically a long way doesn’t necessarily mean that it is permanent wfh. Your employer may think that employees living further away will be happy commuting far if less frequently or that you are planning to relocate or would relocate if they start hybrid or even full office.

Iggly · 30/10/2021 18:41

WFH.

I hate the train commute, the stress, the cost etc.
I’m looking for a new job closer to home for this very reason.

Is that you Boris?
ilovebrie8 · 30/10/2021 18:51

It is wfh it’s a contract role and contract is 100% remote ..:don’t think I can face the shlep to an office again...1 hour each way commuting ....think I’ve pretty much decided wfh is for me...once I factor in train tickets plus loss of time etc it won’t be that much difference in pay....

If it was 2 days in office i might be swayed but 3 days seems too much after doing 100% wfh for almost 2 years...they are insisting on 3 days in ....don’t know if this is the norm or not now ...

We are being told it’s a minimum of three days a week in my employer. It feels like such a waste of time and money!

Depends on your personality & career aims. Would you be bored, isolated, lonely at home on your own all day? Are you looking to make a big impact, impress people & get promoted? If so WFH FT may not be for you.

Would it be just a job? Are you happy with your own company and pleased to get away from gossiping colleagues, tea rounds, charity collections & everything else which goes with office life? If so, you’re like me and WFH would suit you down to the ground.

SwedishEdith · 30/10/2021 19:40

If you're a contractor, I presume the promotion aspect isn't the same. But I know plenty of people promoted in the last 18 months. One has even had two promotions and no-one in the office I'm usually based in had even met them.

hemhem · 30/10/2021 19:41

Starting a new job fully remote vs doing your old.job WFH is different. How will.you get to know people in your team, other than superficially via phone/video call? How will you learn the company culture? Who will you ask all the little questions to, the small every day things like how the filing system works, or general office chit chat? If you don't want or need this then wfh but you may feel isolated if you don't know anyone and never actually meet them in person.
