Things that make life easier

It's been hard to keep on top of laundry since having a baby as we don't have a dryer and it takes about 2/3 days for it to all dry on the airer now that it's cold. So this morning I decided that it was all getting done today somehow (one load of laundry in the washing machine, a full basket of mine and my boyfriends clothes, towels and bedding and a full basket of babies stuff) so I did 3 washes and we took them to a laundrette and had it all dry in half an hour for only £2!!

I am thinking that I'll just do this every time the washing piles up in winter as with one load taking 2/3 days to dry on the airer the baskets end up being full again before I can actually get another wash done.

It would help if everything could be put in the dryer though as there's about half a load of laundry left that's waiting to go in as it says not to tumble dry 🤷‍♀️

What things do you do/have discovered that make your life easier?

A cordless hoover without a shadow of a doubt.

A designated place for things you need going out ( keys, phone etc)

Decluttering

On line grocery shopping

Only watching TV for specific things, not just sitting looking for something to watch.

Snowdropsandbluebells · 28/10/2021 22:16

I couldn't live without my tumble dryer.
2 pound is great for you to give yourself a break and have your house back.

For me it's batch cooking curries etc and then always having a stash of the microwave pouches. It's a time saver and less mess mid week.

Snowdropsandbluebells · 28/10/2021 22:16

Agree with cordless hoover

LadyCleathStuart · 28/10/2021 22:23

Agree with cordless hoover and tumble dryer.

Also love a heated airer.

Dishwasher.

Tesco delivery saver.

Uber eats.

Having gardners who regularly come and cut the grass.

Kindle, although I prefer to read real books I have a dodgy shoulder and can't always lug them around.

A DH who cooks.

StarryNightSparkles · 28/10/2021 22:23

A robot hoover
Online shopping/food shop
Dishwasher
A yearly calendar so we can all see what we are doing on what day.
A yearly diary so I can see what day direct debits come off
Washing machine
Slow cooker

Would you not be able to buy a tumble dryer as it would save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

FindingMeno · 28/10/2021 22:26

A good larder and freezer with the basics you use in recipes.

A file containing photocopies of favourite recipes.

A list of frequently used phone numbers along with a calendar.

A big kitchen bin not a tiny one.

A central laundry basket for everyone.

Cocopopsss · 28/10/2021 22:32

I would say online shopping, batch cooking, cooking bits for the freezer and although not ideal, having breakfast on the go has sped up school mornings.

For those saying cordless vacuum, I have a GTech which is excellent on carpet but not so great on laminate floors. Any recommendations pls?

Ignoring the labels and tumble drying everything makes my life easier. I'm yet to have any disasters 🤷‍♀️

bluejelly · 28/10/2021 22:41

Heated drying racks from Lakeland are more economical and environmentally friendly than tumble driers Smile

This. I dont sort separate or iron.

Chuck it all in together, then all into the tumble dryer, then folded. Done.

FindingMeno · 28/10/2021 22:46

Don't put wool jumpers in the tumble drier unless your son/ nephew has the same clothing tastes as your dh.
Obviously this has never happened to me....

Recycledblonde · 28/10/2021 22:51

My cleaner.😀

StrongSunglasses · 28/10/2021 22:51

Eufy robovac
Dishwasher
Cordless hoover
Global knives

Moonwatcher1234 · 28/10/2021 23:00

A tip I saw on here which worked for me was buying shed loads of kids underwear, vests and socks. There’s always something clean now in the draws as something is always in rotation in the washing system. Had really made mornings easier.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 28/10/2021 23:11

I also have a condenser tumble drier outside in a covered area, that's my treat to ourselves, no soggy clothes hanging about, no ironing as it all comes straight out of the tumble drier, no airers with stuff all over them, no issues with condensation, don't need to have the heating on to dry stuff before it smells. 100% life improvement!

groundcontroltomontydon · 29/10/2021 00:03

Frozen chopped onions, garlic and soffritto - make cooking a 'proper' meal quick, clean and easy

Hunderland · 29/10/2021 12:34

Another one saying Eufy - I am currently having lunch while it hoovers around me. I have recommended it to so many people, it is just one less thing to do when you have children, pets, a job, a house etc etc.

Also: Google keep notes on my phone; buying heavy stuff from Amazon ie tinned fruit / soups / beans rather than lugging it around the shop; Amazon Prime for deliveries (can also send things to eldest at uni).

But far more important:

Adopt the 'if no-one died it's not a disaster' mentality Grin

It will see you through more than any help can Wink

Pokhora · 29/10/2021 16:21

Setting up ocado with alexa so you can verbally add items to shopping when it runs out.

Having everything automated - blinds, lights etc

Whole family using Google calender for events so all are updated.

Having as much as possible set up by direct debit.

Only buying clothes than can be tumble dried and don't need ironing.

Buying less stuff and cutting clutter.

Agadorsparticus · 29/10/2021 16:30

The usual appliances, tumble dryer, dishwasher.

I've just bought a decent slow cooker and it has been well used, made some delicious meals. My previous slow cooker made tasteless slush so never used.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/10/2021 17:22

Yes to microwave rice, especially now there's usually only two of us.

Simplifying meals - one night a week soup and nice bread or something on toast, one night a week oven chips or jacket spuds with ready made quiche or burgers or something.

If I find a plain black t-shirt or jumper that is decent quality and getting lots of wear, buy another identical one. If I find comfortable boots, buy in both black and brown. Makes getting dressed a lot easier!

Have the same thing for breakfast and lunch at work for 3/4 days in a row. A bit boring but clears up some head space! Keep nuts, dried fruit and cereal bars in drawer at work.

Have little pouches containing lipbalm, lipstick, painkillers, handcream and hand sanitiser - one in each of the bags I mostly use. In an ideal world, I'd have several mini brollies too, but I haven't yet sorted this.

Online grocery deliveries. Life changing.

Workyticket · 29/10/2021 17:32

-Shopping list on Alexa
-Cooking 4 lots of chilli, curry etc at a time then freezing
-dishwasher and tumble dryer
-limited clothes for ds, means I keep on top of washing
-Eufy
-Making 4x porridge pots and 4x pasta / potato salad pots for my lunch on a Monday to take to work (I only work 4 days)
-buying latte / flat white sachets to use with the kettle at work. Means not having to remember to take milk in. Everyone else has copied or drinks black coffee

MistyFrequencies · 29/10/2021 17:36

My cleaner.
Frozen chopped onions.

Mrscutesmummy · 29/10/2021 17:41

What's Eufy?

CactusFlowers · 29/10/2021 17:41

Lowering your standards.

Titsywoo · 29/10/2021 17:44

Having a tumble dryer

Having 2 dishwashers

Having a chest freezer as well as the smaller freezer in the kitchen

Having a utility room with a worksurface. I have 4 baskets on this and fold the dry clothes straight into each family members basket then they take it and put their own stuff away
