Talk thermos flasks to me!

Never ever owned or used one.

Ds wants one for school to take hot choc in the am for when arrives to school. So needs to be fairly small

DH is now going to be out and about more with work so thinking a nice big thermos to make tea with would be beneficial.

What are good ones. No leaks keeps a good temp?

Fill with boiling water before you go to bed.
Then refill before school /work with chosen drink...
Keeps it hotter much longer...
Ime.
And don't store flask unevenly on a pantry shelf as a flask on the big toe is painful in dd's experience!!. Grin

Which one is best to buy

They are more expensive but the Thermos brand are the best. We have tried other brands but they don't keep food/drinks as hot.

My adult ds has a Stanley one which he says is great.

itsgettingwierd · 28/10/2021 15:12

I've recently brought a cup/flask from Sainsbury's.

It keeps my coffee hot for hours!

Tesco had a sale on thermos last week which may still be on. I always buy them from Tesco when on offer and they last really well. Mine are years old and still keep soup boiling hot until lunch!

A small sized Chilly’s would be good for hot chocolate. Make it with a good amount of cold water or milk as it will be too hot otherwise.

This size, 260ml.

Just get a bigger one for tea.

No need to warm it and so on they keep the heat in for hours.

Contigo all the way. Leak proof and keeps drinks hot hot hot.

What about a wide necked food flask?

Jenala · 28/10/2021 15:21

My DH has this Stanley one.

He's tried a few and this is the best by far. Reliably keeps his tea hot from 6.30am til lunchtime at 1.30pm when it's left in very cold temps outside in winter Smile

I have so many!
For me, nothing beats Klean Kanteen for drinks. They don't spill and they keep the drinks hot for many many hours.

If the main purpose is drinking tea or hot chocolate you need one with a lid that allows drinking but still keeps the liquid from spilling.
Don't go for those mugs with a lid that you have to push down.. Go for one you have to screw in as you can put them in your bag (sometimes they are so good you can even have them flat and they still hold the liquid!).

Thank you. Will look at all the options.

This is what I have. Mines from sainburys and a different colour and there are various other colours online.

FOJN · 28/10/2021 16:27

Stanley or Thermos are both good brands. I have a selection for all occasions much to the amusement of friends. None of mine have ever leaked and good ones will keep things hot for 12 hours or more. You can get them in a range of sizes so you should easily find something suitable.

Caramellatteplease · 28/10/2021 16:37

Thermos are the best. Stanley and built (but only the black lid ones) are also pretty good.

Chillys or own brands arent a patch on thermos. Ok for cold water. Contigo used to be good but are pretty hit and miss the last few I've had. Thermos are consistently great.

SheWoreYellow · 28/10/2021 16:48

My chillys keeps my tea hot for hours. Smile

hels71 · 28/10/2021 20:10

We have Stanley flasks and they are perfect.

MyDcAreMarvel · 28/10/2021 20:12

Is your ds in 6th form? If not it’s unlikely to be allowed.

purplesequins · 28/10/2021 20:16

Tchibo

this one could do the trick.
no leaking.

ChocolateCauldron · 28/10/2021 20:20

My thermos is amazing! I brew up the night before and its too hot the next morning! It's still needs to cool down by late afternoon. I've saved a fortune as I was buying 4 or 5 cups at £1 a pop as there's no access to a kettle where I'm studying.

Being able to make it the night before is a revelation as I couldn't be bothered first thing in the morning whist wrangling 3 kids and all the other start of the day palavers.

FindingMeno · 28/10/2021 20:22

I have a small stainless steel unbranded one which is great.
I've never had a problem with the stainless steel ones of various brands over the years leaking, despite them getting various dents, and my coffee keeps good and warm.

MrsPsmalls · 28/10/2021 20:26

Make sure it's dishwashable. Most of them aren't.

purplesequins · 28/10/2021 20:27

anything insulated/double skinned will not be dish washer safe.
but the lids often are.

nancybotwinbloom · 28/10/2021 20:28

My daughter has this one. You can prob get in in different colours. It hood a tin of soup which she takes over as a packed lunch with bread.

DP works outside and we are regular walkers. Stanley flasks all the way. Nothing else does the trick. Important to note flasks should never be submerged in water, as it degreades the seal. Empty, rinse and fill with water and a drop of washing up liquid.

irishoak · 28/10/2021 20:49

I have a Contigo flask that you can drink from one handed, and has a lock on to stop accidental bag spillage. Had it about 7 years and still going strong.

Best one I have though is a big thermos that I bought when working in Asia - Zojirushi. Amazing quality, coffee still hot the next day, ice cubes also lasted over 24 hours. They're on Amazon with hefty postage, but they are seriously amazing.
