Any recommendations? I’m thinking heartwarming, facing adversity, etc.

Thank you!

Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day by Winifred Watson.

Seroi · 28/10/2021 12:57

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

I loved Nomadland, though I don't know if it fits the bill exactly. It's written by a journalist who spent months among older people in the U.S. who have been forced to sell their homes and live in caravans/RVs. They were all just such likeable, cheerful souls with a work ethic that would put anyone to shame. Made me want to join them even though it would be my idea of hell.

My 'comfort blanket' book is The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets, by Eva Rice.

I often turn to Jilly Cooper when I just want to switch my brain off, too. Grin

The tent, the bucket and me - Emma Kennedy. Adversity in the face of camping. Good for a laugh!

Beachhuts90 · 28/10/2021 18:57

The Great Good Thing
The Little Prince
Project Hail Mary (a bit of a weird pick yes)
A Christmas Carol

icelolly12 · 28/10/2021 19:14

Gosh a Christmas Carol makes me ugly cry, not sure I'd want to read it if I was feeling blue

icelolly12 · 28/10/2021 19:15

I like a bit of Bill Bryson or Sophie Kinsella for light humour if I'm feeling down

Bideshi · 28/10/2021 19:15

I Capture the Castle.

Speakeasy22 · 28/10/2021 19:17

The Code of the Woosters by P G Wodehouse.

I heartily second this choice. I read it whilst in hospital for a masectomy and spent the entire time giggling in my bed.

@LadyJaye - I love the lost art of keeping secrets too!

LadyCleathStuart · 28/10/2021 19:26

Anything by Sophie Kinsella.

Sp1ke3 · 28/10/2021 19:27

My grandmother sends her regards and apologises by Fredrik Backman ( he also wrote a Man called Ove)

CharityDingle · 28/10/2021 20:33

I find going back to comfort books helps, if you have a favourite author, for example.
Sue Townsend, James Herriot, Maeve Binchy, Maureen Lee would be some of mine.
Hope you feel better soon.

GiantCheeseMonster · 28/10/2021 20:38

Eleanor Oliphant. I loved that book when I was feeling low.

ISeeTheLight · 28/10/2021 20:41

The Humans by Matt Haig.

Hooplawho · 28/10/2021 20:43

Georgette Heyer books are lovely - frederica or the grand sophy are good ones to start with. And a third vote for the chronicles of st marys by Jodi Taylor!
