Does anyone have the Emma original mattress? Do you recommend it?

Does it smell when new? Does anyone have any money off vouchers? And has anyone returned one if they didn't like it? How easy is it to return and did you get your refund?

Have had Emma for 2 years and no dips yet

tigerbear · 31/10/2021 23:00

Worst thing I’ve ever bought, and the only thing that ever gave me horrendous backache.

theDudesmummy · 31/10/2021 23:01

Funnily the Emma has great decreased my backache

I bought the damned thing, Emma, as I thought it might help my back, given its glowing advertorials. Back is now considerably worse. From the accounts here, it's definitely got to go.

showmethegin · 03/11/2021 10:38

Best mattress we've ever had. I'm a side sleeper and DP a back sleeper and we both love it. DP gets very hot in the night but hasn't had a problem with the Emma and conversely I like being warm at night and have to use as many blankets as before.

Moomarre · 03/11/2021 10:59

We have it and really like it. I did have back ache for a couple of weeks actually but then it disappeared. I don’t find it hot at all. It did smell a bit at first but nothing overpowering.

We've just completed our 3rd night (of the 200 night trial) on our new Emma premium (the firmer) mattress.

My partner and I have very different needs. Our former mattress was originally of very good quality (memory foam top over miracoil springs) but some of the springs gave way recently.

I'm a Which subscriber and use their research a lot before making large purchases. We decided to try the Emma premium because of the 200 night trial and their website had 45% off (plus an extra 5% for signing up to the newsletter).

There was a slight odour (a bit like silicone sealant) for about 6 hours. We left the mattress on the floor in our spare room for 24 hours - by the time we put it on our bed frame, I couldn't detect the odour any longer.

I am menopausal (bastard night sweats), plus I've had major surgery on my spine involving a large number of metal rods, nuts and bolts. I've also got a scoliosis at the top of my spine.

My OH has problems with his hips and knees; the pain would often wake him up on our old mattress. He's also snores heavily.

Both of us would prefer to sleep on a concrete floor rather than a soft mattress.

So far, we're both extremely happy. I've had no night sweats at all since I've been sleeping on the Emma, which is a huge relief. I find the mattress to be very firm, but not hard if that makes sense! You don't sink into it, nor do you leave an impression on the surface when you move. OH's snoring has drastically reduced, and he's been able to sleep through without being woken by his hip and knee pain. Both of us are able to move/turn without disturbing each other. Also very comfortable for non-sleeping activitiesBlush

I fully intend to make the most of the trial and won't hesitate to send it back if it stops working for us, but so far we're very impressed.

We had an Eve mattress which was very comfortable, but the memory foam made me far too hot at night, and we had to send it back. We've gone for a traditional pocket sprung natural fibres replacement and it suits me far better.

Mrsbrownsbuoys · 03/11/2021 19:38

@MissCreeAnt

I slept on the sofa for nearly 3 weeks after ours arrived, despite having followed the advice on leaving it outside etc. However I am very prone to smell-induced migraines.

I do find it comfortable but we have dips where we sleep, which make the "high" bits uncomfortable to sleep on. We do use the free mattress topper as we found the mattress too hard initially.

I've unpacked it and like the feel of it so far. I'll see how tonight goes. Could you tell me about the free topper?

We have a SK Emma that is a year old and absolutely LOVE it! DH feels the heat at night and was apprehensive, but he is more than happy with it. No smell nor dipping issues. We ended up buying one for the spare room and everyone who has slept there has said it's been one of the best sleeps they've ever had.

We have one - very comfy but too hot!

MissCreeAnt · 03/11/2021 23:06

@Mrsbrownsbuoys ours is a couple of years old so it might have changed. When we bought it, basically if you find it too hard or too soft, and you ring up to return it for that reason, they offer you a free topper to adjust the firmness. You can try that within the return period, before deciding whether to keep or return the mattress.

Rollingwiththehomies · 03/11/2021 23:21

@Mrsbrownsbuoys

I've read a lot of reviews saying they develop a lump in the middle after a while if two people are sleeping in the bed. Also that they are very hot.
Our Emma mattress is 1 year old, best sleep ever. But there is a lump in the middle, and we don’t really cuddle anymore in bed.. feels like we need to roll up a hill to get a cuddle 😬

Thanks. I've not seen any mention on the website, but if I'm having problems I'll speak to them about it.

I've got a Hyde and sleep. Almost finished me off getting it out of the box. I can't move it as it's so heavy and has no handles. It's quite hard so I had to buy a topper for it. I will never buy a mattress in a box again.

showmethegin · 04/11/2021 13:08

@Snowdaysandhappydays

Weve got one - it's great but you forget just how comfortable it is until you sleep on another bed/mattress and you csnt wait tonget back to your own.
Yes! It has ruined all cottages for me as I just don't sleep as well
Motherofone4444 · 28/01/2022 19:24

I would not recommend the Emma original mattress i first had one about five years ago and it developed a sag across the middle of the mattress from side to side and only had it about two years if that so i asked for a replacement and it took me forever after sending email after email and taking photos of the mattress it was like they didn't believe me any way i finally got a replacement after about 2 months there was two people who delivered the new mattress and they just left it outside my flat door and took the old one and never offer me any help to get it in my flat let alone the bedroom and i forgot to say i live in a ground floor flat anyway I've had this replacement for about 3 years now and it has gone the same way sagged across the middle and it's a deep sag and the sides have collapsed like it's been run over by a dump truck so i wouldn't recommend the Emma mattresses not only the mattress but very bad customer service and the delivery people were just unhelpful and rude so bad all-round
