What does the email look like if you’ve won the lottery

I’ve won a few fivers in the past and £30 last night 🎉 and each time I’ve received an email that says something like ‘you’ve won a prize on the national lottery’ and then you have to log in to your account to see what it is. Every time I get one of these emails I have a tiny flicker of hope that it’s the jackpot, but I just wondered if anyone knows if you still get this email if you win a massive prize or do they jazz it up a bit and make it a bit more exciting-sounding? Or is it just the standard one and fireworks go off or something when you actually log in to your account? Thanks in advance to any lottery millionaires who might know this Grin

Same, I get so excited when I get that email I think I've finally won the big time to log on to find I've won £2.60. Same with the Postcode Lottery email 'Good news about your ticket' and it's a bloody tenner.

PaulaTrilloe · 24/10/2021 11:35

I got a text (won £95). For larger sums of more than £50 I think they credit money to the bank card account you paid your online lootery account rather than to your online lotto one. I think the info about how they pay is in their website and varies with the product type and amount. Hth

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 24/10/2021 11:36

Dont know from experience but i did read it was the same kind of email as the ones you get for winning £2.50! There was an article about it recently.

washerdrier · 24/10/2021 11:37

I'm following this as I've often wondered.

I also wonder what the amount has to be for them to not pay it in to your account but to go through the process of having you call, getting financial advice etc, before it's deposited? I've read before it can take months for funds to be released when it's a big win

Queenslotus · 24/10/2021 11:40

My best friend won 126,000 on the lottery last year and she got the same email! In fact she assumed it was another 2.60 so didn’t open it for ages because normally it gets put back into the account!

It’s over 50k that you have to go through the longer process. But if you win big then the bank that they’re opening the account for you will bring you an advance when you meet them (either cash or into your current account).

30k-50k they pay by cheque.

Wasn't there a discussion on here recently and one winner said they had to wait quite a long time for the money, had to open a new account etc

hazelnutpraline · 24/10/2021 11:48

Interesting! I can still get my hopes up when I get the email then! And does it really take months to get the money if it’s a huge prize?

I think as PP said, there is an advance. Imagine feeding the kids spaghetti hoops and lidl fish fingers knowing you were a millionaire

Zimmumuk · 24/10/2021 11:54

I won just over £100, they sent the usual email and the funds went into my lottery account - so I transferred from there back into my bank account

LindaEllen · 24/10/2021 12:18

It's the same email - it's for security, so that if someone else sees the email they don't know you've got a lot of money.

I think they also give you advice if you win a life changing amount of money, telling you to think carefully about what you do with the money and not rush into big decisions.

Not speaking from experience btw, the most I've ever won is about £100 or so.

But its best to not rush out and buy a Ferrari or quit your job when you might actually need. A million pounds to a young person with a family who goes on a spending spree won't actually last very long compared with your life expectancy sadly. Certainly no chance of not working again and leading a lavish lifestyle.

tensmum1964 · 24/10/2021 16:35

I've won the odd £5 and a few lucky dips but I have never yet had an email. Do you have to specifically sign up for email notifications?

drury7thedition · 24/10/2021 16:37

I won £64 a couple of weeks ago, same email as £2.60 but paid into my current account.

Noeuf · 24/10/2021 16:39

I won £30 last night and it’s been paid into my account. Won £440 last year and had to transfer it out so wonder if there’s been a change? I read an account of a woman who was £1m she got the same email, logged into thinking it was £2.50 or whatever and had a message to call them.

I've won £700 once and got the generic email saying I had won. But when I logged in - the money wasn't in my balance as it usually is if I win £2.60 or £30. I had to go through to my games and actually click to accept my winnings and reveal how much I had won. I'm guessing that must be the process for larger amounts

If you play online anything up to £500 goes straight into your account. Between £500 and either 25k or 30k you have to claim and confirm your card before it goes into your bank account.

I mean, obviously I'd be thrilled anyway, but cheque? What a ball ache!!
@hazelnutpraline I wish I could tell you from personal experience. I can tell you to £8.50 they definitely put it on your lottery account 🤣

I'll update you if I have more applicable experience tomorrow 🤞🏼
