Unoptionally. Basically Hobson's choice. Forced to.

What a great word.

BonnesVacances · 23/10/2021 08:48

DS used to call Lego instructions 'constructions'. Always thought this should catch on.

WeAreTheHeroes · 23/10/2021 08:48

We always say destructions for a laugh!

GoingBacktoSchool123 · 23/10/2021 08:48

Yumcious was coined by my then 4 year old.

Hesma · 23/10/2021 09:04

@ThirdElephant you’re totally missing the point 🤣

BlowDryRat · 23/10/2021 09:05

Unoptionally is excellent.

When the DC were little we had:

  • trampoline = bouncealine
  • turtle/tortoise = tortle/turtuss
  • cucumber = cumcumber
  • other child are nursery pinching = biting with his hands
FreeChuro · 23/10/2021 09:15

When DD was little mermaid were 'girl-fish'.
I also look after a little girl who calls unicorns 'hornycorns' Blush Grin

Bloodylovecheese · 23/10/2021 09:26

Unoptionally and Voluntold... loving these.
I'm gonna use these on my DH in the next phalf hour 🤣🤣🤣

Bloodylovecheese · 23/10/2021 09:30

Just took me 3 minutes.... I just said to my DH 'can I voluntell you to go get milk from the shop?'
He replied 'ooh...do we need a loaf as well?'
I replied 'fantabulous' (a word I use often)
This is working well Grin

NancyDrawed · 23/10/2021 09:35

We had 'yestertime' for last time and underbeneath

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 23/10/2021 09:38

Love sunbrella and oopsidental!

SomethingAboutNothing · 23/10/2021 09:40

We use constructions for Lego instructions in this house too!

Choccyp1g · 23/10/2021 09:45

@Donatella

When DD was little she coined the word 'leg-pits', ie the backs of your knees, like arm pits. Totally logical.
DS invented "inbows" for the same thing on your arms.
RandomMess · 23/10/2021 09:49

We have strugglation in the house from DD putting on a pair of super skinny jeans that were 2 sizes too small 🤣 she was super skinny and somehow managed!!

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 23/10/2021 09:53

My dd used to say also-ly instead of saying also. I prefer it 😂

NapoleonOzmolysis · 23/10/2021 10:17

Another constructions house here.

Also leg elbows for knees.

We have a consequence tree that makes awful pears (said by small child that tried to eat an unripe uncooked quince straight from the tree)

And anything on the outside of food was "the packet" - so we had to take the packet off apples and bananas as well as off of chocolate. Obviously DS1 has long grown out of this but DS4 was whining about being given a jacket potato this week that he'd unoptionally chosen for tea and I said I could take the packet off if that would make it better and he looked at me as if I were mad.

secretbookcase · 23/10/2021 10:31

@ItsReallyOnlyMe

Children are brilliant at inventing new words.

My DS used to call his teddies 'soft blooded animals'. Perfect description.

Oh I love this!
BrutusMcDogface · 23/10/2021 10:39

I love threads like this!

JaneExotic · 23/10/2021 10:47

Some of my DCs inventions:
Flyspot - ladybird
Countingator - calculator
Oncutor- computer, switched on!
Boringe- brown/red roof tiles

BrutusMcDogface · 23/10/2021 10:47

Oopsidentally is my favourite!

A relative of mine said “foot fingers” for toes- that is what they are, after all!

SoupDragon · 23/10/2021 10:49

Someone needs to put small children in charge of the dictionary.

secretbookcase · 23/10/2021 10:59

@FASDE1517

Love these. My three year old helping to put away shopping: "Where do I put the salad meatballs?" (Brussel sprouts)
Grin Grin Grin

This thread is making me miss the toddler years so much!

Amdone123 · 23/10/2021 10:59

@SoupDragon, agreed 'soft blooded animals' and 'cannalonely ' are genius.

NancyDrawed · 23/10/2021 11:20

Another one in our house - thumb toe(s)

Saisong · 23/10/2021 13:37

While watching a carnival procession one day a small DC asked impatiently where the dinosaurs were. Some confusion over carnival and carnivore was to blame. To this day around carnival time we say we're off to see the dinosaurs (much to the embarrassment of the now teenager). We were delighted one year when one of the parade WAS a dinosaur - we cornered them later on the carnival field for a family photo Grin

This story may be somewhat outing!

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 23/10/2021 15:47

We had " eyelips" for eyelids.

"Toothstring" was dental floss.

Took us ages to work out what DS had been given for lunch at kindergarten - he insisted it was a "short extra". It turned out to be a dumpling.
