Unoptionally. Basically Hobson's choice. Forced to.

What a great word.

@doodlejump1980 We still call elbows "arm corners" after a similar incident where toddler DS1 forgot the word elbow Grin

Sherwil16 · 23/10/2021 07:56

My nephew asked me to draw a 'squircle' on his arm 'like a superhero'. I assume maths lessons on shape....

monkeywrench · 23/10/2021 07:59

Whilst walking past a stables with a row of horse boxes outside DS, prob around 2.5 said " ooohhhh look at all the horse caravans"

FASDE1517 · 23/10/2021 08:00

Love these. My three year old helping to put away shopping: "Where do I put the salad meatballs?" (Brussel sprouts)

dudsville · 23/10/2021 08:03

From this moment forward unoptionally and sunbrella shall be used in this household. Many thanks.

SunshineCake1 · 23/10/2021 08:05

@AnUnlikelyCombination

Living these. Rather specific, but dd named the last remaining cannelloni in the dish, the cannellonely.
My favourite.
mathanxiety · 23/10/2021 08:07

I used to attempt to apply sunscream on the DCs as toddlers.

bastedyoungturkey · 23/10/2021 08:08

Dd got out of the bath and said she was wet down to get leg wrists. (Ankles)

haba · 23/10/2021 08:09

My DS tries to tell me that unluck is a thing, i.e. bad luck DS.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 23/10/2021 08:10

Mine has "nonline" for home school lessons that are not online.

ColitisSucks · 23/10/2021 08:11

DD called cucumber greencumber.

Donatella · 23/10/2021 08:15

When DD was little she coined the word 'leg-pits', ie the backs of your knees, like arm pits. Totally logical.

betterchangemynamequick · 23/10/2021 08:24

"armbow" = elbow, "eyeblinks" = eyelashes

SweepTheHalls · 23/10/2021 08:27

No bookcases in this house, just story cases!

BabbleBee · 23/10/2021 08:28

My 13 year old has speech and language disorder so sometimes her words do come out muddled. She’s got a ‘bundled up’ nose this week. I asked her if she meant bunged up but she was certain it is bundled, like when you shove your jumper in a bag and it’s bundled up!

ssd · 23/10/2021 08:28

Ds used to call windscreen wipers 'window skelpers'

FurryGiraffe · 23/10/2021 08:32

DS2's contributions:
For-ages= like forever, but taking ages
Constructions= the instructions for building a Lego model

WeAreTheHeroes · 23/10/2021 08:32

Just on parasol and "pararains" - parasol is Spanish for "for sun" and the Spanish word for umbrella is "paraguas" which means "for waters".

HouseOfFire · 23/10/2021 08:36

@MrsTerryPratchett

Unoptionally. Basically Hobson's choice. Forced to.

What a great word.

Hobsons Choice

1 :an apparently free choice when there is no real alternative. 2 : the necessity of accepting one of two or more equally objectionable alternatives.

Jossbow · 23/10/2021 08:38

my grand daughters slippers have horse-y- corns on

BlackeyedSusan · 23/10/2021 08:38

Unoptionally and voluntold are different in meaning from compulsory even though the result is the same. It's when someone with power makes you do something while implying it's voluntary but don't let you not volunteer.

Amdone123 · 23/10/2021 08:40

@WeAreTheHeroes, yes, you beat me to it. I love the use of compound words in Spanish- el cubrecama ( bedcover), el abrecartas ( letter opener), but sunbrella is delightful and I'm using that forever more.
I've just woken up wondering why we have no milk for tea and instead am discussing Spanish compound words !!
This thread is lovely BTW.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/10/2021 08:45

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Or trousers have "leg sleeves". Jumpers have "arm sleeves". This is from DD2 being a toddler, and I think its rather logical.

She also renamed bedside tables as bedtime tables... again logical, its everything she needed at bedtime.

In German, gloves are ‘hand shoes’.

Love all these!

Not just a word, but when she was full a dd used to say she was ‘stuffed to the highest heaven’.

WeAreTheHeroes · 23/10/2021 08:46

Another fab Spanish word is sombrero which means hat, but literally means "shader", i.e. something which shades.

Saisong · 23/10/2021 08:47

@FurryGiraffe we had 'destructions' for instructions, as the complete opposite to your 'constructions' - which tells you rather a lot about DS as a toddler (and nothing has changed!)
