Best grey shade for bathroom

Hello all,

Yes very boring but having to sell a relatives property & we are just painting it all.

What's a nice grey for the bathroom? I'd rather something fairly light but not too pale.

If you're selling just paint it white, grey is very divisive.

FreeBritnee · 18/10/2021 09:39

Yeah I hate grey. Don’t do grey.

reluctantbrit · 18/10/2021 09:42

Don't use grey. We re-did our bathroom and as soon as the grey was gone it looked so much brighter and friendlier.

OK, ours was top-to-bottom in grey tiles with white units but still, it was depressing on a non-sunny day.

Go for either white or for a light colour mix, palest blue maybe. White can look very clinical if you also have white units, you need a some colourful accessoires to go with it then.

I second pale blue- we got loads of compliments from buyers for painting ours blue. People get bored of seeing grey everywhere.

I know the market & grey is in.

It's not my personal fave either but the area likes it. Hence why I want the softest one

It's got white tiles & white fittings. All white will be too cold.

To clarify grey is popular in that particular market. Grey is just the new white.

We get valspar paint mixed to the farrow and ball colours.

I have had a tester of blue grey and it's a lovely colour, but not terribly grey.

Crowns pencil point is a nice grey.

But, I'd get to a b&q and get some valspar testers in the farrow and ball colours and go from there.

Thanks @JuneOsborne, I'll do that.

That looks like cornforth white or Purbeck stone. You might want to consider Hardwick white too. They say they're white, they're not.

We've done a room in manor house grey, but it's a much stronger grey than that photo.

You can also have any colour matched, so if you see the colour you like in a magazine or something, you can take it along and they'll mix up the paint to that colour.

I don't work for valspar, but I do really rate their paint (the gold tin) and I love being able to get the colours matched.

Maireas · 18/10/2021 11:35

Don't do grey, as pp have said - it's cold and unattractive to a lot of people. If it's all white at least they can live with it until they paint it orange/purple or whatever.

Yes, pale blue is less divisive.

Pavilion Grey is lovely and is the same as your picture.

GreenerGrass23 · 18/10/2021 11:42

Dulux Dusted Moss 2 - this is very close to F&B Cornforth White. I've used it throughout my house and it's lovely. Pale grey, inoffensive and goes with everything.

shoelaces1 · 18/10/2021 11:54

@GreenerGrass23 & @JuneOsborne I sent the image to my decorator (i'm away with work at the moment) & he said he'd just used cornforth white on another house so he's going to colour match that. One job ticked off!

I've recently bought a new kitchen and the showroom staff said 9 out of 10 sheep people chose grey and 1 out of 10 exclaimed that grey is a cold, drab colour and reminiscent of drizzle and misery.

Surely the trend must be nearly over?

FreeBritnee · 18/10/2021 12:41

I’m sure it’s dead as a duck. We recently turned down the opportunity to view a house where every fucking room was grey, plus carpets and soft furnishings. I’ll be damned if we are going to pay top price for a palette that I can’t stand. I’d rather a renovation project.

crossstitchingnana · 18/10/2021 12:49

My bathroom is painted a similar shade to the picture. I love it, looks clean and goes well with the white units.

When we chose tiles for the bathroom 18 months ago the showroom staff pointed us to grey. I only said that I survived the last 10 years with grey and don’t want to see it again, ever.

He just and said, they are hearing it now more and more so I do hope grey is over.

ShowOfHands · 18/10/2021 13:03

I don't think it is dead. BIL is an estate agent and says it's ubiquitous. A friend has bought a house and is doing it up room by room. She posts the before and after as she does each room and it's just grey grey grey. Grey walls. Grey carpets. Grey rattan garden furniture. Odd silvery crushed velvet accessory. Some blush pink cushions. More fucking grey.

It's really not going away. How have people been sold the colour of damp misery on such a mass scale?

Grey kitchens? Wow
Annonnimoouse42 · 18/10/2021 13:17

so many grey roomed houses on Rightmove. Our current house had battleship grey skirting boards and radiators in some rooms, with pink paint 🤮 Wasn't one piece of white skirting board/ door trim in house. Took ages putting it back to white.

shoelaces1 · 18/10/2021 13:26

Lol didn't mean to start a grey debate.

I have to say I used to love pale grey & chose it for my bedroom 10 years ago but yes it's ubiquitous. I have never gone in for the grey velvet sofas, mirrored furniture, grey cushions etc. That is not my style at all.

I can confirm that it will be the only room with grey in, I think its a safe choice for a bathroom.

I have a pale pink bathroom which is quite divisive but apparently it's the new bathroom colour!

Maireas · 18/10/2021 13:34

Pale pink is nice in a bathroom! Soft and warm.
