I was just wondering if any vets surgeries had returned to face to face during consultations or whether they're still handing over at the door.

Ours have been for a while, they’re still asking you to wait outside until you’re called in but consultations are face to face.

Thanks. I'm still having to hand over at the door, I was just wondering if this was usual.

We can go inside the building at mine but not into the consultation room. My sisters vet is still handing over at the door. Must depend on the vet

nettytree · 18/10/2021 08:35

Yes. But one person only. They will also collect your pet at the door if you prefer not to enter the building.

Somanysocks · 18/10/2021 09:44

I was able to go into the consulting room but we were wearing masks and I had to sit behind a perspex screen in the room.

MrsBungle · 18/10/2021 09:46

Ours is still handover in the car park.

Smarshian · 18/10/2021 09:46

Took my cat this week and that was hand over outside.

Tigerblue · 18/10/2021 09:48

Ours announced end August they were delaying f2f to allow their young staff to get fully vaccinated. Took my boys for their vaccinations last week and had to drop off at the door. Their staff are mid 30s upwards, so I'm sure they've all had the opportunity to be vaccinated, but on the positive side it's one of those little things that helping to prevent a few more cases.

BarefootHippieChick · 18/10/2021 09:48

Yes mine is completely back to normal, small family run business.

RuthW · 18/10/2021 09:50

Ours have been back to normal since summer last year. All four of ours have had appointments including one pts.

Evenstar · 18/10/2021 09:51

One person can go into the consulting room at ours, but only if they wear a mask, only 3 people are allowed in the waiting room.

I am having to stay outside still, as I am exempt, but don’t feel comfortable to ask if I can go in. They have been closed twice with outbreaks of COVID amongst the staff, so I understand they are being very cautious.

FindingMeno · 18/10/2021 09:52

Yes.
Waiting outside but one person can go into the consultation.

PoetryLaser · 18/10/2021 09:52

There's a screen at the reception desk and in front of the consultation table but otherwise it's back to normal. All staff wearing masks though and they ask visitors too (not everyone does)

girlmom21 · 18/10/2021 09:55

Ours are face to face and we were both allowed in to the consultation wearing masks

skyblueone · 18/10/2021 09:56

At ours they allow two pets, with one person each, into the waiting room. I took my dog 2 weeks ago. Everyone wearing masks, receptionist behind perspex screen. The vet came out, talked to me about why I had taken my dog in and then took her into the consultation room while I waited in the waiting room. Then the vet brought her back out. All ok as we were only there for booster injection. The other dog in the waiting room at the same time as us, I felt so sorry for her owner- she was being told by the vet that he could tell just by feeling the lumps on her body that she almost certainly had breast cancer and that a lump lower down was also likely to be cancer. The owner was sobbing as the vet went through the print out detailing the treatment and the cost, she kept repeating that she couldn't afford it, honestly it broke my heart and made me wonder whether this conversation might have been more appropriately had in the consultation room.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/10/2021 09:57

Mine is mostly face to face after waiting outside. But handover for neutering and some vaccinations. Two different practice groups.

I have 4 of my own cats and also foster for a rescue organisation so have been for multiple appointments throughout the pandemic.

The vets the rescue uses even maintained neutering when we wanted them even during the first lockdown but the vet MIL uses wouldn't spay her puppy until much later than normally recommended.

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/10/2021 10:05

Ours is still asking us to text from outside on arrival and they collect from the car park. . It's part of a big group practice with 2 veterinary hospitals and several smaller surgeries. One of the small surgeries isn't doing regular checkups as they don't have any veterinary nurses currently working there. (My cat doesn't like this as it means a longer car journey!)

ratspeaker · 18/10/2021 10:07

Ours is hand over at door and vet comes out to talk in the street.
We are frequently up there as cat is difficult to control diabetic prone to pancreatitis. I also have several rats
I've taken to printing out info to hand over and having a camping chair set up when I wait outside. Or taking the car if it's raining and leaving mobile number.

My pals vet in another town lets people in masked.

GoodnightGrandma · 18/10/2021 10:07

If it’s a consultation, one person can go in wearing a mask.
For pre-op consultation/drop off/pick up it’s in the car park.

Carboncheque · 18/10/2021 10:12

Yes, if you wear a mask. If you can’t/won’t wear one it’s hand offs in the car park. They have a staff member with severe asthma and they’re being extra careful.

Hoppinggreen · 18/10/2021 10:13

@Somanysocks

I was able to go into the consulting room but we were wearing masks and I had to sit behind a perspex screen in the room.
Same here and they take ddog away for a full exam while I wait in the consultation room
StrongArm · 18/10/2021 10:13

ours never stopped doing them

SoupDragon · 18/10/2021 10:15

Mine was face to face in August. They were still limiting the number of people waiting inside and yo u had to wear a mask though.

Skysblue · 18/10/2021 10:16

Ours have been face to face for ages

Burnerphone21 · 18/10/2021 10:17

Had the first face to face with our vet this week for the rabbit and his sore paw. I was really surprised because vet knows dd1 is isolating with a positive test.
