Have people been successful selling on Vinted?

I need to have a good wardrobe declutter and have some really nice, brand new things that I would like to sell.

I've signed up to Vinted - has anybody used it successfully, and how does it differ from eBay?

(I promise I'm not a journo, nor do I work for Vinted - genuinely curious and looking for opinions/experience!)

Yes, I sell quite a lot, without issue.

edgeware · 11/10/2021 21:20

Yes have just sold a bunch. If you price it right things sell very very quickly. Much easier than ebay.

TwinsandTrifle · 11/10/2021 21:21

Interested too .... How do the fees compare to eBay?

LadyJaye · 11/10/2021 21:25

Is there a quick way to 'benchmark' or is it just a case of looking for similar items?

I don't want to massively overprice, but at the same time, I'd like to get a decent return for items such as FatFace, White Stuff etc.

Following with interest! Also have so much to sell but eBay puts me right off!

Janaih · 11/10/2021 21:33

I've made 100 quid in a month selling old clothes of mine and dcs. Suggest using the price guides for similar items and also ironing them. Lots of people don't but it helps imo.
I've turned royal mail second class postage off on mine - the size dimensions are smaller than inpost or hermes.
Buyers pay for postage, the packaging is on you, so a plastic bag tightly wound with sellotape is the norm.

Janaih · 11/10/2021 21:35

Branded stuff sells really well. Think jumble sale prices though. I sold a boden dress for 7 quid, probably could have got at least 15 on ebay.

HazelBite · 11/10/2021 21:35

I started a similar thread some months back, but still haven't downloaded the app. DS's DP has told me that you have to let your stuff go much cheaper than on ebay, she has suggested that I probably wouldn't get much more than if I sold at a car boot, unless it was designer goods.

Loopyteddy · 11/10/2021 21:35

I have sold a lot on Vinted. I find the app really easy to use. There aren't any fees.
Vinted make their money through sellers bumping their items or featuring their items which cost the seller money to do.
I haven't encountered any issues.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 11/10/2021 21:36

I have bought a few bits, generally no issues. Haven't tried to sell yet although do need to.

I do find that people tend to take the piss on postage costs mind. Someone tried to charge me over £6 to post 2 pairs of jeans via hermes which is insane and then got pissy when I asked them to review.

I know I'm fat but there is no way 2 pairs of size 18 jeans weigh in excess of 5kg

prettypinkflamingo · 11/10/2021 21:43

I've sold a couple of items and found it quite easy. Unfortunately all 3 items I've bought at different times from different sellers were all damaged in some way that wasn't mentioned in the listing. It was fairly easy to sort but it does seem more jumble sale like to me that eBay for some reason!

Summerhillsquare · 11/10/2021 21:48

Yes, it's a simple system and I have sold loads. But quite a young audience so trendy labels sell more quickly, and cheaper stuff more popular. My really high end stuff has not sold.

Maroon85 · 11/10/2021 21:50

The buyer pays the fees, and I think that's part of the reason people expect cheaper prices. Also expect people often make ridiculous offers no matter how fairly you've priced something.

It's easy to list and sell though. When you put up an item and go to input a price it will tell you what similar items have sold for so you get an idea of how to price things.

SiobhanSharpe · 11/10/2021 21:51

Has anyone any experience of selling high quality perfumes?
(They do quite well on eBay, but as PPs have said, it's a hassle.)

WayneBruce · 11/10/2021 21:52

I sold a Joules coat for 25, a curtain panel for 10.
I've also switched off RM as an option and only use Hermes as it suits me better. I just tried to sell a t shirt and the buyer picked RM and paid 1.99 for postage but it would have cost me 3.00 min so I've let the listing run out.
But when I have look some of the stuff looks like it's just been picked off the floor. I'm amazed it sells.

Janaih · 11/10/2021 21:56

I've sold a couple of perfumes that I've only had a few squirts of. Technically perfumes have to be brand new but I just showed the bottle in photos. And I've seen some for sale that are half full.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 11/10/2021 22:00

I did download the app to sell stuff but so far I've bought 3 oasis dresses and a ted baker dress. Haven't put anything on to sell yet ! I prefer it to eBay as a buyer

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 11/10/2021 22:04

Another fan of Vinted here. Much prefer it to eBay. I sell an item every week really. Agree about disabling the Royal Mail option as the costs are way wrong.

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 11/10/2021 22:22

It’s easy to use but even brand new items with tags don’t go for much.

Heatherjayne1972 · 11/10/2021 22:27

I didn’t like it
Not enough traffic to my items I was selling
I’ve gone back to eBay

JellyTots2009 · 11/10/2021 22:30

Zara clothes sell very well.

I made £700 selling Zara clothes on Vinted within 2 months.
They take no fees so you keep all profits.

I downpriced heavily as I noticed items with a big price tag doesn't get as much attention.

I also added bundles to my 'wardrobe' so people got a % off when buying more than one item off me.

I would buy postage bags from Wilco or pound shops and these have worked great for the items. eBay also sell large packs of postage bags if you have a lot of stuff to sell.

A tip as well, I only think I sold as well as I did because I took picture with the clothes on. It looks tons better than lying on a flat surface or hung up. Even if you have a mannequin use that for sure.

Make sure you thoroughly check clothes for any defects and to add that to your description. I also lower price for anything with faults too.

YeOldeTrout · 11/10/2021 22:32

No luck on Vinted. I deleted my account. I sell regularly on e/bay, though.

Thepurpleturtle · 11/10/2021 22:36

I’ve sold a fair bit. Less hassle than eBay but don’t expect people to pay a lot.
I’ve also turned off the Royal Mail option & just use Hermes as my corner shop is a Hermes parcel point so very easy for me.

Campervan69 · 11/10/2021 22:40

Everything I've bought has been tat. However have sold a bit, but heavily discounted. Gone off it recently.

inpixiehollow · 11/10/2021 23:16

I buy and sell a lot, I really like it find the app easy to use and haven't had an issue with royal mail postage prices like some PP's mentioned? I buy lots for my daughter from vinted and have sold lots of her outgrown clothing.
