Have people been successful selling on Vinted?

I need to have a good wardrobe declutter and have some really nice, brand new things that I would like to sell.

I've signed up to Vinted - has anybody used it successfully, and how does it differ from eBay?

(I promise I'm not a journo, nor do I work for Vinted - genuinely curious and looking for opinions/experience!)

I've bought a lot but just posted some clothes to sell on there tonight. When I'm logged out and look at my listings it looks like postage is free Confused

How do I set postage costs and disable Royal Mail as people have recommended, please?

Mooloolabababy · 16/10/2021 22:43

I've Literally just sold my first item on vinted this evening! I'd listed it at a higher price, had quite a few watches (or saves?) but then nothing for a few weeks so I paid 90p (ish) to bump it yesterday and it sold today! I'm posting it by Hermes but no idea how I pay for this, Thats the bit I'm confused about as I have a printed label. Do I take it to the shop, pay to send it and then charge the buyer? It's not very clear!

carriemathisonshandbag · 16/10/2021 22:59

The buyer has paid the postage already. You just print out the label and take it to the parcel shop Smile

Ah ok, great, thanks!
Catouttahell · 17/10/2021 08:16

Well done Mooloola! That must be a great feeling.

I've worked out how to disable Royal Mail as a postage option, but I'm still concerned that my listings all show "Shipping from £0.00". Everything I've bought has been around £1.69. Please can anyone help... How do I change that? I'm worried I'll have to make up for underpayment of postage!

carriemathisonshandbag · 17/10/2021 11:10

cat the only thing I can think of is that you have set your postage to custom. If you change it to small, medium or large it should come up with the correct price as a preset figure.

Thepurpleturtle · 17/10/2021 12:30

Hermes give free postage on the first item you sell

GrimDamnFanjo · 17/10/2021 13:02

This is inspiring me to get selling my stuff

Franticbutterfly · 17/10/2021 13:06

Sold a few things lately, all name brands like Ralph Lauren, Nike Air Max, Dr Martens. The things that had the most interest were my Next 360 Jeans but that is because I had them listed so cheaply. I've made about £100 this month.

KnobJockey · 17/10/2021 13:08

I don't find the postage a problem- a medium parcel works out to be royal mail 2nd class small parcel, so £3.20? But if you find it easier you can set a custom postage amount and the buyer has to use that.

It's brilliant to sell if it's cheap. If you want a decent return, Depop/ eBay is better, or a selling group dedicated to that brand on Facebook works well too. But I've sold 1item on eBay recently, compared to maybe 50 on Vinted?

MaverickDanger · 17/10/2021 13:17

I’ve made about £400 on Vinted since August selling mainly mine and some of baby DS’ clothes. I’ve also bought all of his new wardrobe for nursery from there, at a fraction of a cost, plus going back to office clothes for me.

It’s a lot simpler than eBay. I tend to put most things up as medium which is £3.20 second class with RM. I do often get people asking for Hermes which is cheaper for them, but as I don’t have a ParcelShop nearby, I tell them the cost of a courier which is normally more expensive than RM.

WayneBruce · 17/10/2021 17:14

I have gone wrong with RM by listing t shirt as small which is 1.69 but on the RM website thats letter size!

AlexCabot · 17/10/2021 17:23

I've been toying with the idea of selling on Vinted for a while but I was worried that it would be too complicated.

Listed a pair of Dr Martens on Wednesday morning, they were sold by teatime! I've a Hermes parcel shop round the corner so they've been dispatched and I'll have the money this week.

I've got some other things listed, I'm assuming that they just stay that way until they either sell or I remove the listing?

Catouttahell · 17/10/2021 17:28

"Hermes give free postage on the first item you sell"

Thank you Purpleturtle, I think that answers my question and eases my mind! Flowers

JellyTots2009 · 18/10/2021 00:20

WayneBruce if you can fit a t-shirt into a letter envelope then Royal Mail will only charge for the letter size.

I've packed plenty in padded envelopes and as long as it fits through their sizer at the shop they will charge you at that size.

Most shirts will fit fine in them as long as they are thin.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 18/10/2021 17:05

I'm now wondering if I bought @AlexCabot DMs! 🤣

If it is you, can you please press the everything's ok button so I can get the money? Thank you!
EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 20/10/2021 14:01

@AlexCabot not me then, I did that and left feedback Saturday

AlexCabot · 20/10/2021 14:12

Dammit, guess I'll just have to wait then!

AlexCabot · 21/10/2021 10:32

I've had a message from a buyer about a perfume that I'm selling. It's still sealed in cellophane, rrps at over £100 and I've listed it for just over half of that.
She wants to swap it for "one or two of the things that she's selling". The most expensive item is £7!
So she wants to swap my perfume (£60) for at most, £12 worth of her tat.
Is this sort of cheekiness usual on Vinted?

Thepurpleturtle · 21/10/2021 15:51

@AlexCabot yes Grin

Fair enough! I'm annoyed that my buyer received the boots on Tuesday night but hasn't clicked the everything's ok button so I'm still waiting for my money.
