What's your resting heart rate?

LargeYorkshirePuddingAndGravy · 11/10/2021 12:14

According to my Fitbit, my resting heart rate seems to have dropped into the 50's recently. In fact just now while sat having a cup of tea it dropped to 50. I know fitness trackers aren't 100% accurate but that just seems low to me.

What's yours if you know? Wondering if I should get a doctors appointment just to get it checked.

55-60 generally. I have it monitored while I'm sleeping sometimes as I have sleep apnoea and it is usually in the 40's then. I'm overweight but health ish, I do 10-20 miles of running a week which probably makes a difference.

middleager · 11/10/2021 12:26

I'm the opposite. It is usually sonewhere between 90 and 120.
I'm 48 and BMI 30.

HighHighHopes · 11/10/2021 12:29

Between 50 and 60 bpm.

Mine is between 52 and 61 (from a fitness tracker) I've no idea why it should be to be honest and I rarely check it.

thenightsky · 11/10/2021 12:30

Just tested mine... its 58.

I'm aged 62 with a BMI of 23.5. I used to be a competitive runner, but now crippled with arthritis, so only exercise I get is Pilates.

dementedpixie · 11/10/2021 12:30

Mine is around 55-60bpm. I am fat but exercise 4 days a week

gimmeavino · 11/10/2021 12:32

Between 65-75, I'm 28 with a BMI of 34 (but quite active)

ShowOfHands · 11/10/2021 12:32

Mine is around 50, dropping to late 40s sometimes. DH's is 42.

The difference is that this is normal for us and we know why ours are low. If yours has dropped and you don't know why, it can be worth asking your GP.

CanIPullYouForAChat · 11/10/2021 12:32

Mine is currently 68. I’m 36 and currently a few stone overweight, I had a baby a few months ago so I've not shifted the weight yet. But even a few years ago when I was slim, healthy and at the gym 3-4 times a week it was never lower than 64-65. My HR is naturally a bit on the higher side.

PeppermintMocha · 11/10/2021 12:32

Mine is between 40 and 50. But not because I'm athletic and it's a good thing! Rather it's because I have high blood pressure so am on a beta blocker as well as a blood pressure tablet. I presume it means they are doing what they are supposed to, though not sure why it has to be lower than normal heart rate to have that effect on blood pressure!

eandz13 · 11/10/2021 12:37

Between 80-90 usually. Currently pregnant but it's always on the higher side anyway, always has been. Not really sure why, possibly anxiety? Late 20's, pretty healthy, good bmi. I'd get any major change checked OP.

SingingSands · 11/10/2021 12:39

Mine is 80. I've checked manually and it's correct. BMI is 22.3.

LastToBePicked · 11/10/2021 12:41

Being fitter is generally associated with a lower heart rate (so if you fitness improves your resting heart rate is likely to drop).

But from individual to individual ‘normal’ can be quite different.

My normal daytime resting is around 70-75.

Mangozesty · 11/10/2021 13:07

My resting heart rate is about 60-62 but sometimes it drops to 49-50 if I'm literally laying down watching tv!
I do exercise a lot so don't think it's anything to worry about.

Athinginitself · 11/10/2021 13:10

About 60, which is surprising as I am very unfit and inactive due to health issues.

Sprostongreen21 · 11/10/2021 13:10

My daytime resting is 65-75 ish. At night in can drop into high 40s but tends to be more 50/60s.
Some people have higher or lower heart rates than others. Then life styles can affect it too. Better off noting any changes to your own than knowing other people’s.

Insert1x20p · 11/10/2021 13:11

39-40. It's partly genetic (my dad has an incredibly low RHR) and partly as I do a lot of endurance type exercise but at the same time I'm not mega fit. I did get referred to a cardiologist as a RHR this low can be a sign of problems but was ok. It does come up a fair bit once I start moving around.

TrainforSpeed · 11/10/2021 13:14

Mine averages 37, which "everyone" says is too low but GP couldn't have been less interested.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 11/10/2021 13:18

Between 52 and 60. According to iWatch it’s 57 right now. I’m on a train browsing internet so not moving about much. It’s usually around 52-54 if I’m watching tv or reading a book.

TheFairyCaravan · 11/10/2021 13:23

Mine is between 100-120. I’m on medication to keep it that low (I know it’s high) because it’s usually much faster. It can go up to 158bpm. I’m waiting to see a Cardiologist but the urgent appointments are still a 7 month wait.

I’m 50, fairly inactive due to a disability with a BMI of 21

SirenSays · 11/10/2021 13:34

Just taken mine and its saying its 64, which seems about right as I'm usually hovering between 50-70. I really need to exercise more but it's been a bad few months. My BMI is 20.4

SpangoDweller · 11/10/2021 13:36

It’s usually between 60 and 70.

A few years ago when I was much fitter than I am now and regularly doing strenuous exercise, it was about 45.

poohaloo · 11/10/2021 13:41

60/70
I have fairly low blood pressure

RainforestLizard · 11/10/2021 13:42

According to my watch its 86 which doesn't sound good. Should be lower. I'm 40s and podgy though my bmi is normal (but high end). Relatively active.

HoppSuisse · 11/10/2021 13:46

Mine is usually about 60ish, but I went on holidays last week and it spiked up to 78 Shock
Over the week it went from 60-65-70-73-75-78-75-75.
I came back from holidays yesterday and today it's 71. I'm hoping it goes back to where it was but am confused about why that happened. I was walking about 10-12,000 steps a day (which I would usually do 4 or 5 days a week anyway). I had more alcohol than usual - I don't usually have any Sun-Thurs, just a glass of wine on Fridays or Saturdays if out for a meal, but was having a glass of wine with dinner and a GnT most evenings on holidays. I'm not sure that would cause a spike like that though?!
