Seems very warm for October

I am sure I usually would have the heating on by now but I don't. It still seems quite comfortable. Is this the case or am I being influenced by the reports of higher fuel costs and not turning the heating on when I usually would have by now?

Not higher fuel costs no....

The global warming and climate change emergency yes though....

romdowa · 11/10/2021 03:18

Nope it is unusually warm for the time of year. I had my baby shower outside today and people were in tshirts

MimiDaisy11 · 11/10/2021 03:19

Yes it’s warmer than usual.

So it's warm in October when it shouldn't be?

Lots of cross posts!

You guys have confirmed what I thought, which is that it is warm for the second week in October.

I've also seen a couple of spiders in my house. They'd usually be gone by now!

I have been thinking about this, and I have been to a number of weddings in October over the past 20 years or so, and the daytime temp actually isn't that unusual really - although there has generally been a frost or 2 by now, the Misty mornings and heavy dews mean that they aren't that far off.
I did think the leaves seem to be a bit later turning this year though.

I've not had any problems driving off in the morning having had to sort out dew on my car

Correct. It shouldn't be this warm, so whilst it's nice to be outside in your summer clothes in October, it's definitely not a good thing.

Pixxie7 · 11/10/2021 04:34

It is but we had a pretty rubbish summer so make the most of it.

rrhuth · 11/10/2021 04:38

Yes climate change is becoming noticeable now. It makes me feel really sad.

RainbowMum11 · 11/10/2021 04:43

Really? I have - most mornings doing the school run, I have to drive with the windows down because of the heavy dew.

When I used to have a caravan we always went away October half term & had some lovely weeks when it was warm enough to go out in just a jumper, no coats.

MimiDaisy11 · 11/10/2021 05:11

It’s weird how people can have different perceptions as I found the summer hot and at times uncomfortable so I’ve been looking forward to a cold autumn/winter.

Pokhora · 11/10/2021 05:30

We went to Cornwall for a holiday in early October 2011 and I remember a really warm week on the beach with one day 25 degrees. October has been pretty warm for a few years.

Billandben444 · 11/10/2021 06:48

I remember beach holidays in the UK in the 60s when we lived in T-shirts and shorts during the day. Let's discuss the global warming aspect of this mild October in January when we could be knee deep in snow.

rrhuth · 11/10/2021 06:50

Yes, but this weekend it was far too warm for a jumper.

Average temps don't lie.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 11/10/2021 06:52

There have been a lot of wild fires and volcanic eruptions this year, which means there are more particulates in the air, more particulates mean more cloud nuclei and more clouds means heat can't escape back into space. Along with a decreasing albedo due to the melting ice caps.

Although ofcourse weather isn't climate and we did have a very mild October a few years ago, I remember because it was really warm at Halloween and you didn't even need a coat.

AllTheSunshine · 11/10/2021 06:53

Yes.
I have a tree that turns colour in late August/early September and it's only turned in the last 2 weeks this year.

Workinghardeveryday · 11/10/2021 07:18

I agree about the trees, we have a big tree in the garden that has usually started shedding leaves by now and there is no change yet, I thought it was weird the other day

MrsDThomas · 11/10/2021 07:19

Its lovely! Making the most of it, still Picking blackberries, fallen wood for kindling.

I avoid central heating for as long as possible. And lighting the fire! It means another warm night on the other side of winter.

AnyFucker · 11/10/2021 07:22

It is usual to have a warm spell in October

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/10/2021 07:25

It is warmer than average this October, as was September. You can see this www.netweather.tv/charts-and-data/cet

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/10/2021 07:27

But in response to other posts, much of Europe is currently significantly below average temperature currently.

TabithaTiger · 11/10/2021 07:28

I've been away for the weekend this weekend in October every year for the past 8 years. Every year the weather has been lovely and warm and sunny (photos have been coming up on Facebook memories over the last couple of days). The temperature normally drops around the middle of October. September/ early October always seem to be good weather, whereas August is always pretty rubbish.
