What would you buy for someone in their 60s, unwell, housebound at the minute

Who literally doesn’t need or want anything?

Buying her perfume, jewellery, clothes etc seems like a slap in the face as she can’t go anywhere or do anything.

She doesn’t need hand cream or pjs, doesn’t drink, doesn’t eat sweet stuff and eats like a wee bird generally, has a kindle and buys her own books and papers etc.

Can’t book a massage or anything as she can’t lie/sit for something like that.

I’m at a total loss 🤷‍♀️

It’s for a birthday present by the way

Amazon voucher?

H0cusP0cus · 09/10/2021 17:54

Voucher for her kindle
Flowers

H0cusP0cus · 09/10/2021 17:55

New slippers and dressing gown (I'm always happy with these and I'm 30🤣)

Knitwit101 · 09/10/2021 17:56

A bird feeder? Can she look out the window and see the birds? A plant to grow, plant up a tub of spring bulbs?

You could still buy her a book even if she buys her own. I love getting a book chosen by someone else. A book of short stories if she's feeling tired?

endofthelinefinally · 09/10/2021 17:56

Netflix subscription? Or similar.

DPotter · 09/10/2021 17:58

Netflix subscription was my 1st thought too

Jaxhog · 09/10/2021 17:58

"Afternoon Tea' by CherryTree. Comes with scones, clotted cream fabulous strawberry jam, cheese, biscuits etc. All delivered to their door. Scrumptious! Tempted even my Mum's birdy appetite.

urbanbuddha · 09/10/2021 17:59

Flowers are always lovely.
Maybe a selection box of herbal teas?

A beautiful book. The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris is gorgeous.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 09/10/2021 18:24

Cashmere bed socks.

Ellmau · 09/10/2021 18:28

Would she appreciate/be able to manage having a manicure or pedicure? You can get people who come to your house.

Kanaloa · 09/10/2021 18:28

Yes to kindle/Amazon vouchers, then she can treat herself to a book she wants.

I know you say she doesn’t need pjs but maybe a really fancy/luxury dressing gown or slippers? I always love new ones and I never actually need them!

Vallmo47 · 09/10/2021 18:30

Is she always going to be house tied? Someone bought me a theatre ticket for next year and it was my favourite present as I’m currently covid positive and can’t do anything. Something to look forward to.

SparklingLime · 09/10/2021 18:40

Heated throw if she doesn’t have one. From £40–£100, from Lakeland, John Lewis etc.

DriftingBlue · 09/10/2021 19:08

Nytimes crossword app subscription

Color by stickers books. Depending on hand dexterity and stamina, possibly get the ones aimed towards older kids not adults. They are still plenty interesting.

Elzbells · 09/10/2021 20:31

In the same situation we got my grandma an Alexa. It sits next to her and she uses it for audio books, music and just general info.

The next year we bought the lightbulbs that you can use Alexa for to turn on and off so she can control her lighting easier.

Tonnes of uses

Florence282 · 09/10/2021 20:39

When I was housebound recently someone bought me an expensive scented candle, it was lavender (which I know a lot of people don't like) but I found it really healing.

MissyB1 · 09/10/2021 20:40

Heated throw.

BertieBotts · 09/10/2021 20:56

Does she like music? I recently got my grandad a selection of music he liked when he was younger and apparently he really liked that. I'm thinking if sending my mum some CDs for her birthday.
