Just having a nosey at my online medical records.

There's several references about cake.

@ImitationofBeing

I'll try and explain but I am not responsible for the creativity madness of the responses.

Last night I logged onto my GP surgery's online patients system for the 1st time ever.

I looked at the section of patients records. This included brief notes of any contact with me.

Twice (different times) the Dr had just put the word 'CAKE'
Another entry (a newer entry) by one of the admin team says "FANCY ICED CAKE" there's also some sort of code.

There is a screen shot on the thread to prove
I am not making up random stuff/on crack etc.

And I asked the wise MN'rs what it meant.

Wise MN'rs have put forward some suggestions.

I thought you were joking 😂

I have to read the full thread as I’m so confused as to why they’d use those codes…

BertieBotts · 09/10/2021 15:26

I think there being several references to cake is potentially why it could be an error.

Like say category ABC is all different types of cake. ACB is different types of vitamin deficiency.

Someone intended to type ACB23 but actually put ABC23 into the system. And voila your vitamin deficiency shows up as cake.

So you just need to work out what illness/procedure/etc you've had 3 similar things of, with 2 identical and the third just in the same category.

FrowningFlamingo · 09/10/2021 16:50

OP you might be onto something about the covid vaccines

At my surgery we didn’t have a code on the system for suspected covid when it first started so we used the slightly random code ‘sucked into jet engine’ so we could do a record search and switch them all to the right thing once the computer system was updated with the new codes. We assumed we were pretty unlikely to have any patients with that particular condition!
Your practice might have done something similar.

Are you considered overweight? Might be a reference to "you like eating" sort of thing?

tiredofitall99 · 09/10/2021 17:39

FIC is cystitis in cats... maybe its female idiopathic cystitis... and cake is just plain old cystitis :-) no idea lol

TooembarasingNameChangeNeeded · 09/10/2021 17:52

Look! If I type fancy iced. Your medical jargon is the first suggestion now lol

Unless you're diabetic, pre diabetic or seriously obese I can't think of any reason for that to be in your medical records - how random!

JinglingHellsBells · 09/10/2021 18:12

It's obviously a glitch in the IT system.

idontgetpaidenoughforthis · 09/10/2021 18:15

Not RTFT but it is a placeholder for authorisation for patients to receive certain vaccines. A GP has to place an authorIsation on each patients record and it's usually an easily searchable term so surgeries can quickly find out how many vaccines they need. It can be deleted if you are concerned about it being there.

How do you know this @idontgetpaidenoughforthis :)

It's intriguing!

I'm a GP receptionist Smile

@ErrolTheDragon

When I last dealt with medical records there was a read code option under Falls/ Type of fall that said "Fall from a lunar module"

That's not precise enough, surely you'd need to know if it was on the earth or the moon. The latter you'd fall much less hard because of the low gravity.
One small misstep for a man....

We decided it was probably on the earth because of the gravity thing.

We also presumed it was a "joke"by the person who was devising the read codes.

Suzanne999 · 09/10/2021 18:45

I’ve googled those term in relation to medical records —- can’t find anything. Probably some sort of error, I think most medical terms are usually just initials. EG one of mine said SOB — shortness of breath.
I’d take it up with the GP or hospital tho.

Nellodee · 09/10/2021 18:50

My NHS records have me down as Bishop Nellodee. I have no idea how this happened. It's relatively recent.

Blendabrethin · 09/10/2021 18:53

Maybe they were using medical transcription software and it fucked up?

EishetChayil · 09/10/2021 18:59

Why is the health service wasting time on stupid codes like this? Am I missing something?

This is even better than the cake one! Only thing is, what type of lunar module? Isn't there a place to record that?

See my post above, it's about saving time not wasting it.

Ah, that's illuminating! A possible explanation, I reckon.

Predictive text gone wrong, is my guess.

I think you are right.

I have had a look at the dates against the Cake references. They are prior to me getting the jabs so it must be related to their coordination of high risk people.

I love my Dr's more for using Cake. I missed 1 reference which states "Cake Intake"

It’s doctor code

Topazmumma · 09/10/2021 19:36

@Everythinghasturnedtoshit

GP records?

There's no code for cake and fancy iced cake?

Was this in a written letter? How did you get access to this online?

Anyone can have access to their own medical records via the NHS app or one of the others, AirMed for example. It is a strict set up so very little risk of setting up for someone else and having a nosey, and I just log on on my phone with my fingerprint
