‘This pleasant lady presented with complaints of a doughy feeling and a somewhat glazed expression.’ Grin. Or the clinical coder was very hungry that day.

@EmKayEm

There are lots of abbreviations.

CTD - Circling the drain
NDBN - Not dead but nearly
FFN - Family fucking nightmare

The NHS have a lot to deal with, allow them some levity

I shouldn’t laugh but lol, is that a thing? Imagine being labelled CTD

What does that even mean? 😂 I’m getting Frank Gallagher type patient vibes.

@PupInAPram to be honest I would do that- that could have implications in a way that fancy iced cake doesn’t. An email (or even an old fashioned letter…) would do and it would go to a specific and administrator in the practice who deals with records and coding to look in to. We deal with a lot of correspondence and mistakes are easy to make but equally you don’t want to be explaining to an insurance provider why you didn’t tell them about the sigmoidoscopy you never had but which appears on your medical record. It might also mean that something that should be on the record isn’t because the wrong code has been entered (it’s not hard to do).
I’m a bit of a code/records geek. I actually appreciate it when someone points out this sort of thing. I love a nice accurate medical record I do.

I guess I should. I'm just very aware that GP surgeries are under massive pressure at the moment. Email is a great idea though, then they can deal with it if or when they have time.

taybert · 09/10/2021 10:12

@PupInAPram yep, it’s not urgent but it needs looking at so email ideal. Agree not something you would want to sit in a phone queue to address!

RicherThanYew · 09/10/2021 10:21

@meadowbleu £9 for 4 bite sized cakes?!? Is Betty on glue or are they really that good?

Sorry, as you all were.

FLK = Funny Looking Kid. That's what my dad used to jokingly refer to my devastatingly handsome brother.
taybert · 09/10/2021 10:46

@RicherThanYew Betty’s are on glue. What’s more I bet we can find SNOMED codes to accurately describe the fact that Betty has fancy iced cakes AND is also on glue.

forgotmyusernamagain · 09/10/2021 10:47

Could you actually be a cat OP and never realised ? 🤣

Then unfortunately I have to sadly tell you you are suffering with

Feline Idiopathic Cystitis

Bonkers

Oh and don't forget TATT

Tired all the time

nocoolnamesleft · 09/10/2021 10:56

I recall much joking when Harrison Ford broke his ankle on the set of the Millennium Falcon that finally someone would have got to use an "injured by spacecraft" read code.

I've no idea, I've never had anything from Betty's although they are, I believe, an institution.

They certainly look pretty fancy though and the cost is fancy too.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/10/2021 11:08

Is there a code for Fat Rascals? If not, why not?

ImitationofBeing · 09/10/2021 11:31

@AutistAwayWithUrConditionalLuv

Do you think it meant "Fancy-arsed cake" to show you're being a bit precious, OP?GrinCake
Grin that would be a brilliant way to reference patients.

Whilst I was sleeping/ taking youngest to activities/sorting laundry/walking the dog you have been busy code breaking.

I won't be phoning the Dr's. I might ask at next appointment if I dare (worried it may mean I am a 1st class pain in the ass of a patient).

I don't have allergies. 1 child of mine does. But it doesn't make sense... I don't think it's an error because there are 3 references to Cake.

I wonder (and I need to check the dates) if it refers to the Covid immunisation.

Not the dates of actual jabs but the administration of putting me higher up on their lists because I have dodgy immune system.

So the 2 CAKE references are for the 1st jabs.
And Fancy Iced Cake refers to the latest booster jab.

That's a boring possible explanation. 😴

P.S. Betty's are over-rated in my humble opinion. Or maybe not so humble as I am the Fancy Iced Cake.

Interestingly cake does possibly appear on my medical records.

After I had my son, in the early weeks I totally lost my appetite (despite breastfeeding etc) and the only thing I would eat with any enthusiasm was cake.

My health visitor noticed I was losing weight etc and we talked in some detail about this. Including whether I would maybe countenance flapjacks etc for oats which help with milk production. All of which she noted and I imagine uploaded to my digital notes.

I recovered my appetite eventually, but perhaps the cake notes remain.... I’d be interested to know.

Shock Shock Shock
Ehh? What is that?

WTF is this thread about?

Only read the first page and a half and I haven’t got a clue what’s going on. Am I missing a joke or am I just thick?!

Feel like crying 😢 🤣

ImitationofBeing · 09/10/2021 11:54

I'll try and explain but I am not responsible for the creativity madness of the responses.

Last night I logged onto my GP surgery's online patients system for the 1st time ever.

I looked at the section of patients records. This included brief notes of any contact with me.

Twice (different times) the Dr had just put the word 'CAKE'
Another entry (a newer entry) by one of the admin team says "FANCY ICED CAKE" there's also some sort of code.

There is a screen shot on the thread to prove
I am not making up random stuff/on crack etc.

And I asked the wise MN'rs what it meant.

Wise MN'rs have put forward some suggestions.

Read codes are hilarious.

I’ve seen “Nosebleed instead of a period” on system one, never needed to use it.

And an uncomplicated bee sting coded off as “effects of toxic envenomation” which obviously sounds rather dramatic.

Marinated · 09/10/2021 12:38

At some point you were suspected of having diabetes and tested for blood sugars?

StealthPolarBear · 09/10/2021 13:21

Thwre is an icd10 (external causes) code for injuries as a result of a prolonged stay in a weightless environment.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/10/2021 13:35

Is there a code for catching ones nipple between two laundry baskets?

Saltpepperbutter · 09/10/2021 13:37

@Justajot

Ocado ran out of Mr Kipling French Fancies last week, so we had to get the M&S ones. It turns out they are much nicer. They're not just fancy iced cakes...
Ooh, are they actually different to Mr Kipling now?

M&S ones used to be different years ago, and as you say much nicer, but the M&S ones I’ve had for the last 10+ years have been identical to Mr Kipling, disappointingly.

I haven’t got over it, you can tell. But maybe they’ve changed them back!

SolitaryTree · 09/10/2021 13:37

I tried to type “fancy iced cake medical code” into google and all that comes up, on google search, is your thread!
