Or so they say, the Channel Islands in 2 weeks.

Really? How have we got to this?

How do we protect the channel Islands, and of course, ourselves.

This was my biggest concern preBrexit, that we would be out of the EU ultragrid.

We need to be totally self sufficient - obviously that means renewables, and very fast

If only we were part of a Europe-wide organisation which would provide a sensible straightforward method for resolving these issues ...

GothicaAutistica · 06/10/2021 13:07

It was my understanding that the Channel Islands weren't in the EU anyway. Even long before Brexit was a thing. They were in the Single Market, but the SM and EU aren't one and the same. Why are the French punishing Channel Islanders? They had nothing to do with any of Brexit.

My, most likely flawed, opinion is that Cameron is to blame for the way things turned out. He gambled our membership in the EU because he wanted another term of Premiership. Remain were shot in the foot by being lumbered with him as the leader of their campaign - I seriously have spoken to many people who voted Leave to stick two fingers up at Cameron and Osbourne. The gamble didn't pay off. Cameron shat the nation's pants blamed everyone but himself and left everyone else to clear up the mess he made. He then retired into obscurity cushioned by his wife's connections to aristocracy.

I know that's not the full story, of course not. But few people seem to be talking about that now.

Good question, it just shows how little Macron understands!

The French elites hate the U.K. for leaving but a lot of the ordinary French just don't care. British visitors spend billions in France and they are missing it. I have French friends in Brittany and in the south and they are worried that British won't come back and will holiday elsewhere in future.

Macron is not popular, in fact a recent poll showed that the French preferred Boris to him! Macron is trying to blame Britain for his own failings. Pathetic little man.

Horst · 06/10/2021 13:21

So because their fishermen/women didn’t stick to the rules to get a new license it’s our fault. Yeah no.

The french always come across as so angry and ready to fight everyone for them not following the rules untill they get what they want. Like angry little toddlers.

EishetChayil · 06/10/2021 13:27

The French have been trolling us since circa 1300. It's what they do.

GothicaAutistica · 06/10/2021 13:37

To be fair @Horst, I'll bet the French say the same about us! Wink

nimbuscloud · 06/10/2021 13:39

Bit like Priti Patel threatening Ireland with food shortages back in 2018 during the Brexit negotiations.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/10/2021 13:41

Rules that were agreed between the countries, signed off by French. They are really trying on.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 06/10/2021 13:47

Oooh we hadn't had a EU-bashing thread for a while.

Who's the baddie now? Junker? Barnier? Ursula? Macron?

Heres a novel idea try reading the fucking thread.

GothicaAutistica · 06/10/2021 13:57

@MythicalBiologicalFennel not an EU bashing thread. Just a "Why are the Channel Islands being punished?" thread.

TheUndeadLovelinessOfDemons · 06/10/2021 13:58

How lovely of them.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/10/2021 13:59

Sorry, how is pointing out the facts EU bashing?

lolliwillowes · 06/10/2021 14:03

don't we just love the gutter press!

the 'French' are people, like us, you know. Nothing like the nationalist Uber Rags to whip up a good bit of othering.

whatever the problem is, im sure they'll sort it all out.

adawong · 06/10/2021 14:17

@MrsElijahMikaelson1

Macron is a twat.
And we've managed to get ourselves to a place where we're dependent on his whims. What does that make us?
sashagabadon · 06/10/2021 14:27

I find the way Macron behaves quite unbelievable sometimes, all that quasi AZ stuff, the forced testing at short notice in the lorry drivers. He is very childish and takes offence massively over things. He makes Boris look statesman like!

sashagabadon · 06/10/2021 14:29

And I agree the aggression always come from one side of the channel and not ours. The reaction of their ministers over the submarine deal was bonkers. Totally over the top

BareGrylls · 06/10/2021 14:34

If the pandemic taught us one thing its that we should be self sufficient in everything.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/10/2021 14:35

I do hope macron is voted out. Horrible, angry man.

waybill · 06/10/2021 14:38

We could always threaten to stop importing their champagne, their brie and camembert, their apples and their wine.

fournonblondes · 06/10/2021 15:17

Macron is an idiot.

jollygreenpea · 06/10/2021 15:32

@BareGrylls

I believed that before the pandemic and brexit.
