What tog duvet for winter

I need a new duvet, currently using a thin summer one. Is 10.5 enough? Tesco do one called Forever Full which sounds appealing. I've seen they go up to 15 tog, is that too warm though?

Since starting the menopause I've used a 2.5 tog (from Ikea) all year round. I have a light blanket on top of it if I do get chilly.

When I was younger I had a 13.5 tog one in winter, 10.5 in summer.

I have the same one through the year. Ant stand being too hot.

One winter I bought a 15 tog one and it was so heavy i hated it. If i get cool i layer with blankets now.

I have a 10.5 all year round but with an extra blanket on top on the really freezing winter nights.

Wait until you go through the Menopause LOL! You then only want 4.5 tog maximum, no pyjamas and access to fling your arms and legs willy nilly out from under the covers.

When I was young, I used to think 10.5 + 4.5 was a good idea. You can buy two duvets and combine them.

I use 3 duvets in the winter. Grin

Completely depends on your house. We had a 4.5 tog down filled duvet all last winter. We tried a 10.5 but it was too much. We're currently under a 2.5. We don't wear pyjamas.

Yup, the only problem being a DH who is in perma-frost for most of the year. I've never known anyone so cold! I just chuck mine over him if I get too warm Grin

I would die if I had to sleep under a 13 tog. My absolute max is 10, and my preference is 7.5.

I have the window open and put a blanket over me if I get chilly.

We also both sleep in the nip Wink

@pussycatlickinglollyices - Ah ha! You can now buy duvets than allow one side to be thicker than the other. Grin No longer will you have to fling caution to the cold one!

DotBall · 30/09/2021 21:44

Depends on the filling too.
I have a 10.5. tog pure goose down for winter (very light but very warm) and a 4 tog feather/down mix during summer.

I also have a wool duvet from Baavet which is approx 13 tog and was used faithfully every winter until I went through the menopause, now it’s far too warm.

A friend has a very nice M&S hollowfibre 13tog which I’ve slept under at his house and was fab with an electric blanket (his house was hardly heated but the bed was warm).

greenlynx · 30/09/2021 22:56

I think there is a difference between brands. I’ve brought 13.5 duvet from Dunelm ( I think it’s Fogarty) and it felt bigger and heavier than my previous 13.5 one. The cover was very thick cotton, good quality actually but I didn’t like it so bought 13.5 from John Lewis. It’s lighter and I like it better.

I'm currently using a 4.5 tog. If it gets colder, I'll switch to a 10.5 tog and if it's really cold I add the 4.5 back in with the 10.5. Occasionally, Resident Collie will consent to be a foot warmer. However, these days, she seems to prefer doing foot warming duties in the middle of summer!
