Saw this in a newspaper today and signed the petition. It's with Change.org

100% agree.

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 29/09/2021 11:09

Signed

TotallyKerplunked · 29/09/2021 12:52

Once I read through and saw drivel like "CIS male dominated leadership team" and "people who have periods" I wasn't interested in a wokey petition. Worthy cause, poor execution.

I don't disagree @TotallyKerplunked but think it's a worthy enough cause to sign the petition

It’s absolutely correct that girls should be able to be off school for period pain, but from what I understand of the badly written drivel on the petition, no one was disagreeing with that.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/09/2021 15:33

posing a direct risk to our young women, trans, non-binary pupils and everyone pupil has by no choice of theirs own menstruates.

Ignoring the obvious.... far too wokey beardy blokey for me.

If I signed up to that I would be implicitly signing up the the wokefest it carries with it.

Let a woman start one with no fucking around with the terminology!

Sportsnight · 29/09/2021 15:34

Thank heavens a man has come along to sort all this out!

Spiindoctor · 29/09/2021 15:39

Who says they can't be off with dysmenhorraea ?sp - I was off many years ago - no one questioned it. And took time off work on occasions.
Is it bollox? Is it not recognised now as a reason to be off? find that hard to believe

LateDecemberBackInLowB12 · 29/09/2021 15:41

Period pains are already a legitimate reason to be off school Confused

Redcrayons · 29/09/2021 15:47

Is the issue that he doesn’t want to tell the receptionist why she’s off so it’s unauthorised?
Or is it that period pain is not counted as an authorised illness?

Quite. Oddly, coming under the "not well" heading. But isn't it kind of a "cis-man" to help us realise we can sign his petition to ask for something we've already got. Bless
SuperstarDog · 29/09/2021 15:51

I’m a bit confused. The girls in our family are off school when their parents decide they need to be, that’s sometimes been due to periods and it’s marked as authorised.

SuperstarDog · 29/09/2021 15:55

That’s confusing as well though. If our kids are ill, we call the school and leave a message. They ask for name, form class and reason for absence. If their dad calls the school he always just says they’re ‘unwell’, no other details given and it’s always been authorised.

What a waste of time. But I’m sure he’s feeling very good about all the help he’s providing. What a good man. 🙄

SpacePotato · 29/09/2021 15:59

No. As someone who suffered horrifically as a teen, these girls should not be missing school every month due to period pains.

If it's that bad take your child to the GP and get it investigated.

SuperstarDog · 29/09/2021 16:05

As you’ve suffered, you should know that it’s not always easily solved. Not to mention waiting lists. HTH.

If their pains are bad then their parents will take them to be investigated, as they would with any health issue.

Nobody is suggesting one week every month off school forever, just if someone is in pain they can take the odd day off, as they are already able to.

Its not in place of medical investigations.

SpacePotato · 29/09/2021 16:14

But surely if your child is ill or in pain you make a choice to send them in or not regardless of the cause.

You don't need to specify that it's period pains.

SuperstarDog · 29/09/2021 16:17

You don't need to specify that it's period pains.

Exactly. I think this man is thinking that he’s going to be some sort of hero saving all the females, when from what I’ve seen, there’s no issue. If a child is ill and the parent/career says they’re too ill for school, it’s authorised.

SuperstarDog · 29/09/2021 16:17

*carer

Nightbringer · 29/09/2021 16:32

I am assuming he thinks time off should be given without it impacting their overall attendance.

Doesn't really make sense to be honest.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 29/09/2021 17:12

Once the guy learns how to construct a sentence...

anyway

A female pupil can be off school with period pain already.🤷‍♀️

gardeninggirl68 · 29/09/2021 17:17

nah.... wont be signing either @StarCourt

for the many reasons already mentioned

applechips · 29/09/2021 17:18

He lost me at the word salad nonsense.

Its almost like there isn’t a specific word that you could use to describe any person who may be having period pains ….

Almaisnormal · 29/09/2021 18:38

"I'm sure anyone who has had a period would agree, that at some stage, they have suffered significantly from Dysmenorrhoea, yes there is actually a medical term for ‘period pains’."

No..Every "person " who has periods does not suffer period pain. I have full sympathy for those that do, but better access to medical care is the answer.
