If periods are that debilitating it should be the medical profession we are petitioning to get off their arses and find ways to fix it rather than writing it off as part of being female.

Women taking 2-3 days off every month is going to severely impact learning, and later on effectiveness at work and the gender pay gap will grow as employers refuse to promote those who need time off regularly.

It is the medical profession who can change this, not teachers or employers. No one should be suffering this much just because they are female.

Agree with this.

I did get some period pain as a teenager and whilst I personally didn't end up with time off school for it I certainly sympathise with those who did/do.

Mine became extremely debilitating as I went through middle age and approached the menopause. They were extremely heavy. Flooding. For a couple of weeks each month. In fact, I wouldn't call them periods, I'd call them haemorrhages.

Easier access to medical care and actually being listened to would be a good start. At the moment it is patchy at best.

The more I read this, the more annoying it is.

I can't work out why his only concern is how the absence is classified at school. Not fussed about the missed learning. Not bothered about (like pp said) how the medical professional dismisses female health issues, including severe period pains. Not bothered about how this could impact his daughters for the rest of their lives. Just bothered about how attendance is recorded.

Makes no sense. And what's worse is that loads of people, probably, mostly women are signing it because 'at least its something'.

I wonder if the 'proud mother of fierce, intelligent and brave daughters' has an opinion on this.

@Nightbringer. I too am getting more annoyed thinking about it

Why is this needed?

I used to have a day off school once a month back in the late 1980s and 1990s. It was never an issue.
